10 Best Cheap Horror Games on PC You Might Have Missed

It’s the season of scares, and we’re all about it. Well, at least for this month. Is it just so we can justify eating obscene amounts of sweet foods? Who can say? The most important thing, though, is that we bring some incredible new indie horror games to your attention. While you probably already have a long backlog of your classic favorites, we’ve rounded up ten of the coolest (and most affordable) hidden gem horror games you might have missed out on.

MiSide

MiSide is one of those titles that looks absolutely adorable on the surface, but we’ve got some bad news for you: it’s a trap. You get to put yourself into a VR game alongside a charming anime-style character named Mita. While she’s very much devoted to you, it turns out that kind of affection can be taken a little too far. Don’t play this one if you’re not a fan of possessive partners and unexpected psychological horror.

Endacopia

Endacopia is a surreal point-and-click adventure game designed to mimic early 1990s edutainment software. That premise is uncanny enough on its own, but the game goes a step further by making unsettling psychological horror a constant companion throughout the narrative. We don’t want to spoil a single twist here, so we strongly recommend going into this one with as little information as possible.

The Complex: Expedition

In The Complex: Expedition, you play as part of a research group exploring “The Complex,” an infinite, liminal maze of yellow hallways that becomes horrifying precisely because it never ends. It captures that iconic Backrooms atmosphere perfectly: eerily quiet, deeply unsettling, and completely lost in endless architecture. If you’re a fan of atmospheric exploration and ambient horror, the vibes here are spot-on.

Signalis

Signalis is a retro-infused survival horror game set in a dystopian future where humanity has dug too deep and uncovered cosmic horrors best left forgotten. You take control of Elster, a Replika searching for her lost partner amidst grotesque monstrosities and classic inventory management puzzles. If your idea of a good time is a PS1-era atmospheric masterpiece that will keep you up at night, this is a must-play.

Look Outside

Look Outside is a horror RPG, which is something of a rare treat in the genre. In this game, you control a protagonist who is more than happy to stay safely holed up indoors. Unfortunately, the world outside has gone horribly awry; anyone who looks out the window gets instantly warped into something deeply unnatural. Featuring multiple endings and a constant sense of dread, it’s a genuinely horrifying experience.

Slay the Princess

Slay the Princess is genuinely one of the best indie horror games ever made. That sounds like hyperbole, but it’s completely earned. Your objective is simple: slay the princess trapped in the cabin. The catch? She’s going to do everything in her power to stop you, including manipulating reality itself. Expect to die often, grapple with meta-narrative twists, and gain a few brand-new fears along the way.

Luto

In Luto, you take on the role of an individual unable to leave their own home. Every time you attempt to step outside, the domestic environment warps, fears intensify, and the psychological weight worsens. It’s a slow-burn narrative horror game that will make you want to put the controller down, yet somehow leave you unable to look away. Prepare for an experience that truly gets under your skin.

No, I’m Not A Human

No, I’m Not A Human takes place during the apocalyptic end of the world. The sun has scorched the planet, meaning the only safe time to venture outside for supplies is at night. However, nightfall brings a different danger: “The Visitors.” They look like humans, speak like humans, and act like humans, but they are distinctly not. You’ll need to separate lies from truth through tense social deduction if you plan on surviving. Good luck.

House of Necrosis

House of Necrosis is a turn-based RPG roguelike with a subtle hint of classic, original Resident Evil nostalgia. With its grid-based movement and dark isometric style, it’s a tricky, challenging title that will constantly try to kill you. However, if you’re smart with resource management and search every corner carefully, you just might survive the nightmare.

Retro Space

Have you ever wanted to board a sci-fi station and play the action hero? While Retro Space delivers on sci-fi aesthetics, you’re mostly playing a game of sheer survival as a black hole slowly swallows the space station and warps reality around you. Blending immersive sim mechanics with retro-futuristic horror and a touch of dark humor, it’s packed with cosmic horrors to behold.
