Yes it indeed has recently been released. We'll start work immediately but the chances of it being available today are slim.

This is due to Craftbukkit not always being on top of the Minecraft updates, and it what we rely on.

We may be able to get a temporary 1.8 vanilla server up in the mean time if enough interest occurs.
