Perfect Dark Was Nearly Saved by Take-Two, But the Deal Fell Through
The Initiative, the studio behind Perfect Dark, was shuttered earlier this year in a mass Microsoft layoffs, with its project apparently canceled. However, Perfect Dark apparently remained in development at Crystal Dynamics until just last week, while leadership from both studios struggled to find new funding from a surprising source: Take-Two. In a report from Bloomberg, which IGN can corroborate from its own sources, it is revealed that Perfect Dark was not "fully abandoned" when The Initiative shuttered earlier this year. Leadership from both Crystal and The Initiative spent the following two months looking for a new publisher and funding source. While multiple parties expressed interest, the most likely candidate turned out to be...
Activision Gives Shocked Call of Duty Warzone and Black Ops 6 Players 20 Battle Pass Tier Skips and 15 XP Tokens for Free
Call of Duty players have a welcome surprise today after Activision handed out a whopping 20 free battle pass tier skips to Warzone and Black Ops 6 players. In a social media post, below, Activision said the free handout was “in celebration” of the Black Ops 7 reveal. But Call of Duty fans are entirely more sceptical, based on the replies to the social media announcement. Comments include everything from the typical “dead game” accusations having sparked the generous offer to convince lapsed players to return to the game, to pressure from Battlefield 6 forcing Activision into more pro-consumer behavior. There's also a degree of frustration from some who had just spent money to unlock tier skips before this announcement. And there are...

No Man's Sky's Voyagers Update Brings In Highest Number of Players Since 2016 Launch
No Man’s Sky's latest free Voyagers update has taken off in more ways than one, bringing in the highest number of players since it launched back in 2016. Hello Games' Sean Murray commented on the achievement on X/Twitter, posting a screenshot commemorating the number of players who were in-game at the time — 97,986 — adding: "Highest number of players since launch," and appending a "mind blown" emoji. Interestingly, the peak has risen even further since then, with Steam reporting a 24-hour peak of 98,285 concurrent players. No Man’s Sky is a game about exploration and survival, set in an infinite universe. Voyagers adds a long list of features, which Murray said Hello Games had worked on for some time. Chief among them is the...
Live-Action Call of Duty Movie Is Finally Official After Paramount Strikes Deal With Activision, Top Gun: Maverick Mentioned as Guiding Star
22 years after it began, the Call of Duty video game series is finally getting a Hollywood movie, thanks to a deal between Activision and Paramount. Both companies issued a joint statement in which they said the partnership “aims to bring the iconic Call of Duty universe to life on the big screen, delivering an unforgettable cinematic event for fans worldwide.” Unfortunately we know nothing of the movie itself, except it’s a live-action feature film. There’s no release window, director attached, or cast. Call of Duty fans have for years wondered why the game hasn’t had an official adaptation, considering Hollywood’s love of war movies. Call of Duty itself is one of the biggest video game franchises of all time, with over 500 million...
Tower Dominion Mini-Review: A Path-Building Twist on Tower Defence
Tower defence games are a wonderful genre, offering that quick-hit rush of upgrades, strategy, and success. There’s something endlessly satisfying about figuring out the right route to block and the perfect spot for each tower. It’s a genre built on steady escalation, watching your little defences grow into unstoppable machines. The problem, though, is that the genre doesn’t always leave much room to innovate. The formula is pretty rigid, which means a lot of games end up feeling very similar. Tower Dominion, though, does something different, and it’s all the better for it. The big twist here is that you’re not just defending against incoming enemies, you’re also the one building the very paths they’ll take. Each round deals you...
Xbox Game Pass September 2025 Wave 1 Lineup Confirmed — Hollow Knight: Silksong Dominates
Microsoft has confirmed the Xbox Game Pass September 2025 Wave 1 lineup of titles, which is headlined by Team Cherry’s hotly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong. But first, available today, September 2, is I Am Your Beast (Cloud, PC, and Xbox Series X|S), via Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass, and Game Pass Standard. Here’s the official blurb from Microsoft’s announcement post on Xbox Wire: "I Am Your Beast is a shortform covert revenge thriller FPS about getting hunted across the North American wilderness by the military-industrial complex — and turning the tables. Break your opponents. Use their own equipment against them. Duck into your tunnel network before enemy forces zero in on your location. Repeat." Tomorrow, September 3...
Space Marine 2 Developer Says a Large Chunk of Fans Have 'Assumptions' About the Warhammer 40,000 Universe That 'Are Not Correct' as a Result of the H
Space Marine 2 offers just a slice of the Warhammer 40,000 setting, presenting the Ultramarines chapter of Space Marines against two enemy factions: the Tyranids and the Thousand Sons traitor legion. This, its developer has said, has led to some “assumptions” about the Warhammer 40,000 universe that are untrue — assumptions that have become widespread as a result of the game’s huge success. Speaking to IGN at gamescom 2025, Tim Willits, development chief at Saber Interactive, said Space Marine 2’s popularity had opened the door to the grimdark Warhammer 40,000 setting for an army of new fans who aren’t necessarily clued up about the intricacies of the universe. “I heard that lots of people now think that Thousand Sons are the only...
Ubisoft Says It's Working on the 'Future' of Rayman, but 'Don't Expect News From Us Too Soon'
Ubisoft is set to celebrate all things Rayman as it gets ready to mark the series' 30th anniversary, promising it's working on the "future" of the series. The official Rayman X/Twitter account has long been dormant, only resurfacing a handful of times in 2020, then once in 2021, and not at all since then. Yesterday (September 1), however, it was resurrected to bring us up to speed on what's happening in Rayman's world. "Rayman turns 30! Join us on our official channels to celebrate an incredible legacy," the account exclaimed, attaching a brief video. In the video, brand producer Loic Gounon — who has been working on the Rayman franchise since 2006 — revealed that "a very talented team at Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan are...

Team Cherry finally revealed Hollow Knight: Silksong's September 4, 2025, release date at gamescom. We learned the news via a nearly two-minute trailer dropped by Team Cherry, which showed a ton of new footage from the game. We see Hornet exploring, loads of new insectoid NPCs...
Hollow Knight: Silksong Players on Nintendo Switch Can Unlock 'Enhanced' Switch 2 Features for Free
Players jumping into Hollow Knight: Silksong on Nintendo Switch will be able to upgrade to the "enhanced" Switch 2 version for free. That comes from Team Cherry itself, which explained in an update on Kickstarter that while OG Nintendo Switch keys will be delivered directly to backers via email, Switch 2 players will need to download the Silksong Upgrade Pack from the eShop to unlock "enhanced features" (thanks, Eurogamer). "For Nintendo Switch 2 players, after redeeming your Nintendo Switch key and downloading the game, you will additionally need to download the (free) Hollow Knight: Silksong Upgrade Pack from the eShop to unlock the platform's enhanced features," Team Cherry advised. Though not explicitly confirmed, this suggests...
NBA 2K26 Global Release Times Confirmed
NBA 2K26 is almost here. Bragging rights are on the line in MyCAREER, MyTEAM, MyNBA, The W, and Play Now as you showcase your moves with "hyper realism," challenging your friends, or rivals in NBA 2K26’s competitive modes. While most people will be able to play from this coming Friday, September 5, those who bought the Superstar or Leave No Doubt editions secured early access that let them hit the court a week early from August 29. We think NBA 2K26 is shaping up well, writing in IGN's NBA 2K26 review-in-progress: "Despite my problems with its offline-only modes, the fundamental gameplay tweaks show plenty of promise in what I’ve played on my first day with it. I’m especially excited to see how it looks in MyCareer with its...
Capcom Says High Price of PS5 Gaming Is Affecting Monster Hunter Wilds Sales
The high price of PlayStation 5 gaming is affecting Monster Hunter Wilds sales, Capcom has said. Monster Hunter Wilds got off to an incredible sales start when it launched in February. After releasing to a Capcom record-setting 10.1 million copies sold, 8 million of which were in just three days, Wilds shot up to become the best-selling game in the U.S. year-to-date according to Circana. However, for the quarter ending June 30, Monster Hunter Wilds sold 477,000 copies, only just above the 389,000 copies sold of four-year-old game Monster Hunter Rise. Wilds was the 9th best-selling game of the quarter for Capcom, while Rise was the 10th. In Capcom's consolidated financial results, the company said: "Regarding catalog titles, although...
Helldivers 2 Patch 01.004.000 Makes Into the Unjust Update Live, Adds New Terminid Enemies and Lots More
Arrowhead has released patch 01.004.000 for Helldivers 2, making the Into the Unjust update live and adding a number of new Terminids to fight in-game. Here’s the official blurb: The headline addition here is Hive Worlds, which are randomly-generated giant cave systems packed with horrible Terminids. These Hive Worlds offer a new tactical challenge, Arrowhead said, complete with “disgusting” flora and fauna and “advanced” Terminid life. Holes in the cave roof will allow stratagems to be called down, and destructible walls within the caves let players navigate. “Bring a flashlight!” Arrowhead recommended. New enemies include the wonderfully named Rupture Spewer, the Rupture Warrior, the Rupture Charger, and the Dragonroach...
Dances With Wolves, Die Hard With a Vengeance Star Graham Greene Dies Aged 73
Oscar-nominated Canadian actor Graham Greene has died aged 73. Greene secured an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Lakota medicine man Kicking Bird in Kevin Costner's 1990 epic western, Dances With Wolves. But he starred in scores of films and TV shows in a career spanning 45 years, including 1992’s Thunderheart, 1994’s Maverick opposite Mel Gibson, and 1995’s Die Hard with a Vengeance, where he played Detective Joe Lambert opposite Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson. Other notable roles include Arlen Bitterbuck, a Native American man on death row in prison, in 1999’s The Green Mile, and Harry Clearwater in 2009’s The Twilight Saga: New Moon. More recently, Greene played Old Smoke in the second...
AU Deals: Price-Cut Party With Nintendo Classics and Next-Gen Heavyweights
Some sales make me wince with buyer's remorse, others make me wonder if the publishers are playing a long game of price limbo. Right now though, I'm looking at a set of discounts that feel almost too good to pass up. Cyberpunk 2077 Issues Odd Tease, Leaving Fans Confused What it All Means — And Suddenly Debating Canon
Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt has issued a bizarre in-universe tease — with a date set for September 4, later this week. The message has since prompted an array of fan theories — and debates over the franchise's canon. This afternoon, a message for New United States of America (N.U.S.A.) citizens posted by President Rosalind Myers appeared on the game's social media channels. Dated September 4, 2025, three days from now, the post asks for "brave netruners" to help defend the N.U.S.A. from a "mounting cybersecurity threat" by taking some kind of recruitment test. What exactly this all means, however, has left fans uncertain. For starters, some fans are wondering whether the message — which of course in reality has come from CD...

Sony's Live-Service Ambitions Take Another Blow As Fairgames' Creative Director Leaves Haven Studios Mid-Development
The fate of PlayStation's upcoming live-service game Fairgames is once again under scrutiny as its creative director, Daniel Drapeau, has confirmed he has left Haven Studios to join Warner Bros. Games Montreal. It's the second high-profile exit of the summer, with ']studio founder Jade Raymond also exiting back in May, several weeks after an external playtest reportedly met a lukewarm response. "As of this week, I joined WB Games Montreal Inc. as creative director," Drapeau announced in a LinkedIn post. "I can't wait to start this wonderful adventure with all the great people here at the studio. I also want to particularly thank Yves Lachance, Logan A. Lesage, and Bryan Theberge for their trust and support throughout the process. Now...
Hollow Knight: Silksong's Price and Global Launch Timing Have Been Revealed
Hollow Knight: Silksong will retail for just $19.99. While there's been a lot of rumors over the last few days — including a $20 price on Gamestop (since removed) that was later corroborated by noted leaker Billbil-kun — developer Team Cherry has now confirmed it, revealing the game will retail for $19.99 in the U.S., €19.99 in Europe, and ¥2300 in Japan. It's an eye-catching price, not least because many publishers are quietly testing more and more expensive games. Xbox recently priced the highly-anticipated The Outer Worlds 2 for $80 — the first of its games to break the typical $70 ceiling — but after a furious backlash, ended up dropping the pre-order price to $70 "in line with current market conditions." That's not all, either...

The Blood of Dawnwalker Interview: Killing Time and Major NPCs in Ex-CDPR Devs' New RPG
If you’ve played more than a few role-playing games, you’ll know how your hero's journey typically plays out. In the prologue, a terrible thing will happen – an event that demands you move quickly to prevent an apocalypse or defeat an all-encompassing evil. In the following hours, you’ll spend 90% of your time completely ignoring that impending threat, instead helping randomers you met in the pub and collecting loot from dungeons. That’s okay, though, because the big bad will always wait for you. The world perpetually teeters on the brink of extinction until you’re ready to fix it. Not so in The Blood of Dawnwalker, the first RPG from Rebel Wolves, a new studio founded by former CD Projekt Red staff. Its campaign puts you on a clock...

Hands-On With Kaiju No. 8 The Game
In the world of Kaiju No. 8, titanic, otherworldly beasts are a constant threat in Japan: to the extent that not only is there a military organisation – the Japan Anti-Kaiju Defense Force (JAKDF) – set up to deal with them, but there are also regimented clean-up crews whose jobs are to come in and cut up then cart away the often skyscraper-sized foes once they’ve been felled. Lead character Kafka Hibino dreams of being a JAKDF officer, but at the start of the series is working in clean-up, and hoping that when there’s work to be done he doesn’t get assigned the intestines… for obvious reasons. It’s not long, however, before he’s – season one spoiler alert here – both a member of the JAKDF and dealing with the fact that he’s somehow...
NBA 2K26 Review in Progress
In many ways, Visual Concepts’ long-running NBA 2K series mirrors the careers of players it works so hard to emulate. Sometimes, it’s a flash of potential: a hotshot rookie catching fire after putting up duds in consecutive games. Others, it’s more comparable to a wily veteran nearing retirement – we see a glimpse of talent, that peek into what it could still be. That’s what keeps me, for better or worse, hoping for the best as I start playing NBA 2K26. It’s both flashy and old school, like a “how do you do, fellow kids” teacher who wears different Jordans to class every day, it has enough cool new kicks, fits, and gimmicks to make it a much more interesting and enjoyable experience than last year’s entry, even after spending only a...
Helldivers 2 Review Update - Now on Xbox Series X/S
Finally, a little more than a year and a half after release, Helldivers 2 has come to Xbox, and those who still subscribe to The House Halo Built can finally drop into Hell with the rest of us. A lot has changed between now and when I first reviewed it, so this felt like a good time to reevaluate one of last year’s biggest (and most enduringly successful) games. So I fired up my Xbox and spent several hours serving up hot cups of Liber-tea and bringing managed democracy to the galaxy. And you know what? Helldivers 2 is still pretty great – and there’s a lot more of it. Before I dive (get it? Do you get it?) into the changes, it might be a good idea to give the ol’ peepers a refresh of what I originally wrote: Helldivers 2 is the...
Konami Asked Every Single Model From Metal Gear Solid 3's Sexy Posters to Send Them Recent Photos So They Could Update the Graphics for the Remake 20
From Calorie Mate snacks to hidden Kerotan frog statues, 2004’s Metal Gear Solid 3 was packed with varied real-life Easter eggs, even if they contradicted the game’s 1960s setting. One memorable gimmick for eagle-eyed players to spot in the indoor areas of MGS3 (and MGS2) was the posters of current Japanese gravure idols — female models who pose in revealing outfits. These sexy posters make a return in the remake Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater — with an added twist. If you play on Legacy Style mode, the posters are as they were in the original. But if you are playing using the New Style mode, with its modern over-the-shoulder camera angle, you’ll notice that although the models are the same, the photos have been swapped out for...
