Crystal Dynamics has announced that it will be removing Hero's Catalysts and Fragment Extractors from the Marvel's Avengers in-game marketplace. The game's official Twitter account laid out the reasoning. "We apologize for not responding sooner to your concerns about the addition of paid consumables in the Marketplace,” said the statement. “We introduced them as an option for an evolving player base, and did not see them as pay-to-win since they don’t offer power directly.” The Hero Catalysts and Fragment Extractors were consumable items that boosted XP for characters and speed up the usual grind in the game. The items can still be earned as normal gameplay rewards and those already earned will still be usable. Marvel's Avengers...
When Darkest Dungeon was first released in early access in 2015, it was a minor miracle. The tension-filled roguelike-ish design, the stress system on top of a Lovecraftian horror setting, and especially the sound, amazingly atmospheric narrator, and music combined to create an instant classic of a tactical role-playing game that was then refined into an outstanding and distinctive final version a year later. It’s a tough act to follow, but Red Hook Games has given it a worthy shot with the early access launch of Darkest Dungeon 2. The good news is that this sequel has a different enough structure and technical improvements that it more than justifies its existence, taking the original formula into surprisingly new directions instead of...
Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 are being delayed, Activision Blizzard revealed amid today's earnings report. Activision Blizzard announced the delay in a slide titled "Update on Our Pipeline," saying that while it still plans to "deliver a substantial amount of content" next year, it is now "planning for a later launch for Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 than originally envisaged." "These are two of the most eagerly anticipated titles in the industry, and our teams have made great strides toward completion in recent quarters," Activision Blizzard said. "But we believe giving the teams some extra time to complete production and continue growing their creative resources to support the titles after launch will ensure that these releases delight...
Worried that Facebook will keep the much-hyped metaverse all to itself? Microsoft has something to say about that. The tech giant announced during its Ignite conference that it's building its version of the metaverse, with a big focus on work and corporate applications, Bloomberg reports. Microsoft is currently preparing an alternate version of its Microsoft Teams chat software that will let employees use digital avatars and share Microsoft Office files, like Spreadsheets, in a virtual world. That's due out in the latter half of 2022. Using its new Mesh technology, Microsoft is also working towards enabling shareable virtual worlds across multiple VR and AR headsets, including Microsoft's own HoloLens. Employees without VR/AR...
In their years working with small developers through cooperative-owned gaming label Glitch, CEO Evva Karr noticed a serious problem. While Karr had encountered many small, diverse game development teams with talented creators and brilliant ideas that they believed could be incredibly successful, those teams were struggling. Some didn't have the initial funding needed to get their projects started, while others simply lacked the practical knowledge to even publish a game. Making it, sure, but what about pitching it to publishers, marketing it, releasing it on consoles, or running a studio as a business? Turns out, none of that information is easily accessible to a lot of up and coming developers. What's more, Karr felt that gaming...
Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 8 has ushered in an assortment of new weapons and items. Now Fortnite's 18.30 Patch is offering more of the same in the form of Grapplers – a suction cup firing gun that flings players across the map. Fortnite Update - November 2 Hotfix: The Icy Grappler As of today, the Grappler returns to Fortnite. Fans of this classic item will be able to find them in various chests and such across the island. Once acquired, it’ll allow you to launch yourself forward by way of a suction cup projectile. Need to escape a losing fight? Just fire the Grappler at a structure in the distance and let its rope pull you toward wherever/whatever the suction cup attached itself to. Grapplers have always been fun to use in...
Netflix announced today that it has expanded its gaming service to over 190 countries, including the United States and Canada. However, the gaming feature still requires subscribers to own either an Android smartphone or tablet to play. Starting today, Netflix Games will be available to subscribers, which you can either download from the Google Play Store, though Netflix says that all five games coming to the service will slowly roll out to its official app beginning November 3. Among the games included in the service is Stranger Things 3: The Game. Unfortunately, you will not be able to use a wireless controller or a mobile controller like the Razer Kishi, as the games on the Netflix Games app use touch controls only. Netflix notes...
As a person who waited in a very small line to grab a launch PlayStation 3 and dragon-riding action disappointment Lair, you could say that any talk of flying scaly wyrms fighting in a video game both bristles my scales and ignites my curiosity. After spending some preview time with Century: Age of Ashes, I’m newly optimistic that mid-air monster battles don’t have to just be flights of fancy. Century is a third person multiplayer shooter that feels more akin to Ace Combat than Panzer Dragoon at first. Teams of three or six riders take to the skies to burn and blast their enemies to secure kills and objectives across a handful of maps and play modes. Before I did any of that, though, I had to take a pass through the tutorial mode...
Activision Blizzard is currently facing serious ongoing allegations of harassment and mistreatment of marginalized workers. To learn more, please visit our timeline as well as our in-depth report on the subject.Blizzard is in the process of launching a player-led Community Council for World of Warcraft, which will allow more direct communication between the MMOs developers and its players. As revealed on the World of Warcraft website, the Community Council is being set up with the goal of making the voice of all WoW players heard. Applications to join the council are now open, and part of the process requires stating your areas of interest and expertise within World of Warcraft. This is to ensure the developers hear from a cross...
Startup game developer Mumo Studio – whose founders have resumes that include games like Black Desert Online and Dead to Rights – has announced Dubium, a new five-player social deduction multiplayer game for PC via Steam Early Access in 2022. Gameplay, as the studio describes it, should sound familiar to Among Us fans: "Players take on the role of Frontier or Traitor and must escape from an abandoned space station by any means necessary. Frontiers will cooperate to repair solar panels that power the escape pod while trying to uncover the identity of the sole Traitor. Players must not relax until they escape; the Traitor will sabotage the Frontiers’ efforts at every step as they try to complete their own mission. The Traitor needs to...
RPG and tabletop publisher Modiphius Entertainment is creating a Skyrim board game that will include a sequel to the original RPG. As detailed in an article by Polygon, the upcoming co-operative tabletop game will include two campaigns, each with three chapters. In an interview with the outlet, game designer Juan Echenique explained that fans embarking on the first of those campaigns will be able to take part in events that pre-date the narrative set out in its video game counterpart. “The first campaign is 25 years before [the events of the video game],” said Echenique. “So you get to meet some of the [non-player characters] from Skyrim, but 25 years before when they were a young adventurer and then they take an arrow to the knee —...
Amazon Games has disabled all forms of wealth transfers in its popular MMO New World following an exploit that was found in the game allowing players to duplicate gold as well as post images to the game's global chat and crash other players' games. An update post published on New World's forums detailed the actions that the studio is implementing in wake of the issue. "We are aware of a possible gold duplication exploit that has been circling and we are temporarily disabling all forms of wealth transfer between players," reads a statement from one of the game's Community Managers. "Any player that has engaged in the use of this exploit will be actioned against," the post states before going on to confirm that the developer is working...

While Call of Duty: Vanguard will include a Zombies mode on release day, players can't try out the main quest until sometime after season one's launch. Treyarch announced that the main quest won't be part of Vanguard's November 5 release or the start of season one on December 2. Instead, new Zombies content will start rolling out as part of the game's first season, with the main quest coming at a later time. "Starting on December 2nd, new Zombies content & features will begin to roll out in Vanguard," Treyarch said. "Players will also encounter some other surprise elements later in Season One that will set the stage for our upcoming Main Quest. The main quest will apparently be tied to "the arrival of an unexpected ally after Season...
An MMO like Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn can take 100+ hours to complete, and that's not even considering its growing list of huge expansions, which add anywhere from another 50 to 100 hours. This is seemingly no problem for Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, who has reportedly played through the entirety of Final Fantasy 14 in a month, setting himself up for the Endwalker expansion that releases on November 23. As reported by PCGamesN, Sakaguchi started playing Final Fantasy 14 in late September, sharing his progress and screenshots on Twitter. Sakaguchi only needed 16 days to complete the base game and just two days for Heavensward (an estimated 73 to 150 hours on HowLongToBeat). He then completed Stormblood...
Disclosure: Humble Bundle, the publisher of Unpacking, is owned by Ziff Davis, the parent company of IGN. Humble Bundle and IGN operate completely independently, and no special consideration is given to Humble Bundle announcements or promotions for coverage. In real life, moving is the worst. In Unpacking, described by its creators as a “zen puzzle game,” settling into a new place is surprisingly comforting. Unpacking takes you through a series of homes representing an invisible protagonist’s life from 1997 to 2018, and as it turns out, you can tell a lot about a person by the things they take with them. Though the mechanics are simple and the campaign can be completed in a handful of hours, Unpacking is a memorable, delightful game...
Eric Barone (aka ConcernedApe) says that combat in his new game, Haunted Chocolatier, is being made from scratch - as opposed to being directly copied from Stardew Valley. "Haunted Chocolatier has a greater focus on combat, so it needs to be very fun, satisfying, and engaging, while also appropriately fitting into the big picture," says Barone in a recent blog post. "You can rest assured that I’m not 'copying and pasting' Stardew’s combat. On the contrary, almost everything in Haunted Chocolatier, including the combat, is completely coded (and drawn) from scratch." The blog post also features some accompanying footage showing the game's combat in action, which can be seen in the tweet below. Barone notes that some of the animations...
Call of Duty: Vanguard's PC specs have officially been revealed, giving players an idea of just how beefy their rig will need to be to venture into its alternate vision of WWII. Pre-loading time has also been announced, which will help you play as soon as the game releases on November 5. The big takeaways are that you can still miraculously get away with a CPU as low as an Intel Core i3-4340 or AMD FX-6300. If you want WWII to look its finest in 4K, however, you'll need a much more recent Intel Core i9-9900K/AMD Ryzen 9 3900X. As previously reported, Vanguard will take up considerably less storage space than earlier Call of Duty games. You'll need a minimum of 36GB if you just want to play multiplayer and zombies mode, but getting 4K...
id Software currently has a number of job vacancies open at its Dallas offices where the studio is hoping to hire new staff members to work on the development of a "long-running iconic action FPS". The open positions can currently be found listed on Zenimax's website. As well as stating that the developer is hiring staff to work on an already existing IP, a number of vacancy posts on the site may also provide further clues as to what that might be. Listed under the job description for Skybox Artist, the studio says that it is looking for someone to join its existing team to provide "AAA-quality sci-fi and fantasy environmental vistas and skyboxes". While id has by no means confirmed what franchise new staff will be working on, its...
Halo Infinite will be released on December 8, but in the meantime, IGN has exclusive coverage of Master Chief’s spiritual reboot all month long as part of our editorial IGN First “cover story” initiative. That means we’ll be dropping exclusive content throughout the month of November (and yes, we’ve played the campaign – the first four hours of it), starting with today’s reveal of a brand-new Arena multiplayer map called ‘Streets’. As you can see in the video above with me and lead multiplayer level designer Cayle George, Streets is a small, asymmetrical battleground set in New Mombasa at night. This immediately sets it apart, visually speaking, from the other Halo Infinite multiplayer maps we’ve seen in the test flights thus far...
The Weird West is a brutal place to live. The prairie boomtowns are overrun with bloodthirsty outlaws, the vengeful undead are climbing out of their graves, and scheming witches are brewing dark magic on the outskirts of society. A heavy, dirgeful soundtrack follows the player everywhere as they cash in bounties, stave off the carnivorous wildlife, and stay one step ahead of everyone who wants to see them dead. In Wolfeye Studios' debut game, everyone is a suspect and nobody should be trusted; good thing you always have your trusty revolver. Wolfeye Studios is composed of former Arkane veterans, and unsurprisingly, Weird West is steeped in that ill-defined "immersive sim" subgenre emblematized by games like Dishonored and Prey. This...
Xbox Game Pass in November is shaping up to be one of the best months of Game Pass to date. With the likes of Forza Horizon 5 launching on November 9, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - The Definitive Edition on November 11, Football Manager 2022 on November 9, and It Takes Two on November 4. There's also an excellent deal on Game Pass Ultimate at Amazon right now (see here), with a 3-Month pass down to $37.99 (was $44.99). Not only that, but starting November 2, new Xbox Game Pass for PC members can get 3 months for just $1. With it also being November, we should fully expect to see more Game Pass deals during the Black Friday sales everywhere. Forza Horizon 5 on Xbox Game Pass in November Forza Horizon 5 is certainly a headliner for...
Today is all about scoring whole kits and kaboodles for well under the price of a standard edition. Personally, I'd recommend you take on that GTA IV Complete Edition, and then (rather easily) mod it to modern visual standards. I'd also make a lot of time for Shadow of War Definitive, Assetto Corsa Ultimate, and those Tomb Raider 25th celebration savings apply to the reboot trilogy pack too! The next Magic: The Gathering set, Crimson Vow, is launching on MTG Arena on November 11 in the U.S. (Nov 12 in ANZ), with the physical edition available in game stores globally on November 19 (with prerelease on Nov 12). It takes players back to the gothic horror-infused setting of Innistrad. Where the last set, Midnight Hunt - which also took place on this plane - was themed around Werewolves, and introduced a cool day/night system, Crimson Vow has Vampires as its central focus, including a number of cards inspired by the one and only Dracula. Of course, that's all well and good, but classic horror is more than just Werewolves and Vampires, and today we have a new card to reveal that will help elevate one of the other monstrous...
Igor Simić has always maintained a penchant for dark commentary on the world around him. One of his earliest games, called Children's Play, asked the player to run a factory staffed by children and keep them from falling asleep on the assembly line while a mutated teddy bear spouted critiques of sweatshops. It was while he recorded music for Child’s Play that he met his future collaborator on Golf Club Wasteland, Shane Berry. In the studio break room Simić heard Berry's voice for the first time, and immediately cast him as the horrifying teddy bear. From there, the two began a working relationship that spanned several videos and short films, with Golf Club Wasteland ultimately their first commercial attempt at a game. They and their...
On today's IGN The Fix: Games, News of the free DLC for Resident Evil Village was published in the company's recent annual integrated report. As part of the lengthy document, which looks back on the studio's year as a whole and also outlines its plans for the future, Capcom's Director and Executive Officer, Yoichi Egawa, spoke briefly about the company's development strategy and how plans for Resident Evil Village would factor into that. Skydance announced the collaboration with Marvel Entertainment today, though it's not ready to reveal further details about which Marvel characters might be involved in their endeavor. All we know is that it is being marketed as a "narrative-driven, blockbuster action-adventure game" and "a completely...
New World, Amazon Game Studio’s first MMORPG, had a successful launch but the honeymoon period may be coming to an end as players are discovering some ridiculous bugs. Including one where players can inject HTML code directly into the game’s general chat and crash the game for unsuspecting players. As reported by YouTuber Josh Strife Hayes and currently a hot topic on the New World subreddit is an apparent bug in New World with the text chat. Normally, a text chat is there so players can communicate with one another, but apparently, New World’s text chat has it so that it can accept HTML code outright. Now, this has led to some pretty funny instances. People have used HTML to begin linking oversized images into the global chat...
Krafton, the publisher of PUBG, is adding Subnautica creators Unknown Worlds to its portfolio. The studio will continue to work independently on ongoing updates for Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero while also developing a new "genre-defining game" that is expected to begin early access in 2022. “It was immediately apparent how closely Unknown Worlds and Krafton are aligned in the way we think about games and game development,” Unknown Worlds CEO Charlie Cleveland said in a press release. “Subnautica and PUBG both started humbly and evolved successfully through constant iteration and feedback. We want to bring new games to the world stage – and with Krafton, we’re a big step closer. We’re truly looking forward to our future...
