If you somehow haven't gotten enough of a taste of what Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy will have to offer when it launches next month, today's PlayStation Showcase delivered with yet another look at some of the humorous, snappy story moments coming up in the Guardians' adventure. The new trailer opens with the Grand Unifier, who we've seen in previous trailers, giving a dark, ominous speech before Star-Lord feigns a heart attack to, one can only presume, distract or throw him off balance, while Gamora shakes her head in exasperation. And it all goes silly from there. We also get a look at Cosmo, a dog with superpowers, intelligence, and the ability to telepathically communicate, who has a prior relationship with the Guardians...
Square Enix has unveiled Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars, the next project from Nier's Yoko Taro. Taro collaborators like Yosuke Saito, Keiichi Okabe, and Kimihiko Fujisaka are also on the project. Saito and Okabe work on the Nier series, while Fujisaka has worked on the Drakengard franchise. The game is described as a table-top RPG video game built of cards. A short teaser was revealed on Twitter, but it is light on details other than the title and the creators involved. While it's called a table-top RPG, it's still apparently a video game. Last month, Yoko Taro confirmed he was the creative director of a brand-new Square Enix game, during a press conference for Nier Replicant ver. 1.22474487139. He didn't say much about...
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is being remade for modern consoles. It will be coming to PlayStation 5 as a console exclusive at launch, with other consoles possibly to be revealed at a later date.Aspyr will once again be handling development of the new remaster, following on from their previous efforts with Republic Commando and Jedi Outcast. The trailer shown during today's PlayStation Showcase showed Darth Revan igniting his lightsaber with an ominous voiceover. Knights of the Old Republic is consistently ranked as one of the best RPGs ever made, and it sits atop our list of the ten best Star Wars games. Originally developed by BioWare, KOTOR helped inaugurate a new era of PC RPGs on console. Its announcement during Sony's...
During today's PlayStation Showcase, you would have been forgiven for not recognizing the second game shown: Project Eve. It's an upcoming hack-and-slash action title that's largely flown under the radar up til now, but an extended trailer shown today gave a better look at its combat, story, and beautiful musical accompaniment. Developing... Rebekah Valentine is a news reporter for IGN. You can find her on Twitter @duckvalentine. Continue reading...
Microsoft has announced that Football Manager 2022 and Football Manager 2022 Xbox Edition will be available on Xbox Game Pass when the title launches on November 9. In an article on the official Xbox website, Microsoft said that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members will be able to enjoy access to both games and fully immerse themselves in the world of football management when the titles release later this year. You can view the brand new announcement trailer for Football Manager 2022 in a tweet shared by the game's official Twitter account below: According to the announcement, this year's Xbox Edition of Football Manager's popular menu micromanagement series will feature Xbox Play Anywhere technology, which enables players to transfer...
Amazon UK's store page briefly showed off a number of Alan Wake Remastered screenshots today (September 9) alongside its listing for the game. As spotted by Wario64 and reported by wccftech, an Amazon UK listing briefly showed off screenshots for the upcoming remaster of Alan Wake as well as a price for the game (£24.99) and its box art. Despite the page recently being taken down, IGN was able to access the listing and verify that the screenshots were shown across the store page for a period of time. As displayed in a comparative tweet by @BenjiSales, the screenshots across the site showed off some impressive graphical improvements to the title, which originally launched for Xbox 360 in 2010. Further screenshots of the title were...
Activision Blizzard is currently facing serious ongoing allegations of harassment and mistreatment of marginalized workers. To learn more, please visit our timeline as well as our in-depth report on the subject. A new Crash Bandicoot video, and promotional material celebrating the series' 25th anniversary, appear to include further indications that the rumored Crash Bandicoot PvP/PvE/party game known as Wumpa League is real and is on its way. On September 8, certain members of the press (including IGN's Jonathon Dornbush!) and influencers received a Crash Bandicoot 25th anniversary package ahead of today's anniversary (September 9) that included a "BIG Wumpa piñata," a mallet, and a postcard. What IGN and many others noticed was...
If there’s one thing that developer Sloclap has shown that they have a unique mastery over in the world of video games, it’s martial arts. If 2017’s hand-to-hand-combat-focused open-world RPG, Absolver wasn’t a convincing enough case, their upcoming beat-em-up, Sifu, certainly aims to prove that few do kung-fu better than the Paris based studio. After getting a 30-minute developer-driven demo, I’d find it hard to argue against the point. Sifu is a game that’s obviously inspired by classic Asian martial arts movies, with its laser focus on being a single outnumbered martial artist facing off against a group of thugs and goons and scraping by not only with your skill, but also your environmental awareness and ingenuity. I know what...
The UK Advertising Standards Authority has told Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games that it needs to make it clearer that "concept ships" being sold for real money aren't yet available in the game. As reported by Eurogamer, the complaint to the advertising watchdog followed the distribution of a Star Citizen marketing email sent out in July that told players not to miss out on their last chance to pledge for a Gatac Manufacture Railen concept ship, which was set to be removed from Star Citizen's store within 48 hours. Reddit user mazty, who posted on the r/starcitizens_refunds page, said that they had reported Cloud Imperium Games to the ASA after becoming "fed up of CIG and the constant lies". The user said that they had...
Good on Hello Games for celebrating the 5-year anniversary of No Man's Sky with a 50% off sale. If you pressed eject on NMS quickly after launch, I think you'd best re-enter its orbit due to a number of radical updates. Other notable deals include some wellness titles for Switch (Ring Fit Adventure and Zumba). I've also found a cheap, quality wheel for Xbox fans, and a great PS score for AC: Origins. The Titanfall 2 community is once again being roiled by issues with hacking, with rumors on Twitter and other social channels of a major security vulnerability. The rumors appear to stem from this screenshot of a Discord announcement, which has been making the rounds for most of the day. The bug reportedly allows local code execution from Respawns' servers, potentially affecting both PCs and consoles with Titanfall 2 installed. While there are still plenty of unknowns, several community members have raised the alarm and encouraged players to uninstall the game until the vulnerability is fixed. Respawn responded on Twitter, "We are aware of reports of a security vulnerability affecting Titanfall 2 and are investigating. We have...
The Oculus Quest 2 is easily the best VR headset I'd recommend for Beat Saber. It's much less expensive that its closest competition, it has excellent tracking, it can be played wirelessly or connected to a PC via Oculus Link, and it has one of the highest resolutions of all current VR headsets. Currently Newegg is offering several great bundles at discounted prices. On a personal note, I own the Oculus Quest 2 specifically for Beat Saber. I purchased the original Rift CV1 headset back in 2016 and since then I've clocked 400 hours in Beat Saber. As a player who values tracking fidelity and controller ergonomics above all else, I was a firm believer that nothing could match the 3-sensor setup of the Rift. I skipped over the Rift S and...
The developer of PS5 launch title Bugsnax is permanently transitioning to a four-day work week in an attempt to give its employees a healthier work-life balance. Axios reports that back in July, Young Horses said it tested out a four-day work week model as a trial run. Now, that change will become the norm for the eight-person studio. Young Horses President Phil Tibitoski says they know this shift was easier for them due to the studio's small size. "It was easier for us to implement because to measure our small team's output is simple relative to those bigger studios, so our trial period and decision-making is faster than a studio who has to get buy-in from so many departments and investors," Tibitoski said. He added that he thinks...
Clid the Snail, a bizarre twin-stick shooter by the appropriately named developer Weird Beluga, makes a promising first impression with its odd setting and anthropomorphic character design. But it doesn’t take long for it to fall woefully short of its potential. Repetitive level design, muddy graphics, and arduously boring enemy encounters make the choice of a snail as the main character a little bit on the nose when it comes to the pace of the action. The eponymous Clid is an ornery, cynical snail who loves to drink and tinker with weapons. The latter gets him kicked out of his settlement and sent into a blasted, post-apocalyptic world full of mutants and monsters who've used the discarded scraps of the old human world to create a...
Fallout 76's newest season arrives today, despite a previous announcement that it would be delayed. Bethesda Game Studios says the Fallout Worlds update, along with the start of Season 6, is out today, adding Public and Custom Worlds game modes to Fallout 76. Fallout Worlds introduces two new customizable ways to play Fallout 76. Public Worlds will feature a rotation of themed experiences that will shake up the world for all players. One example is an option called Happy Builder, that will reduce building restrictions and disable PvP. The update also introduces Custom Worlds, which will be available for those who subscribe to Falloust 1st, the game's premium membership. Here, players can create a game world tailored to their liking...
With Deathloop less than a week away, Bethesda has released the hardware requirements needed to run the PC version. In addition to specifics on the minimum and recommended specs required to run the game, Bethesda has also revealed that the PC version will include support for FidelityFX Super Resolution. Released last June, FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) is AMD's supersampling technology that aims to make your PCs work smarter, not harder. FidelityFX Super Resolution offers four image upscaling modes: Ultra Quality, Quality, Balanced, and Performance. Each mode focuses on achieving either higher image quality or increasing the frame rate in games. FSR serves somewhat as a competitor to Nvidia's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS)...
It’s been one year since Marvel’s Avengers hit the scene, and developer Crystal Dynamics released a new road map for the rest of 2021. With details for the first raid, a power level cap increase, and, of course, confirming again that Spider-Man is slated to come to PlayStation later this year. In an extensive new blog, Crystal Dynamics looks back at the year, including all the ups and downs, as well as looks towards the future providing a glimpse at some upcoming content. First thing’s first, yes, Spider-Man is still slated to be released sometime this year as a playable character in a new Hero Event exclusive to PlayStation players. Unfortunately, that’s about all the details Crystal Dynamics shared today. The team also confirmed...
Bungie is hiring for a new senior executive who will help to bring Destiny's narrative from video games across to the world of TV, film, and more. A career listing on Bungie's website for a new senior executive development role at the studio (spotted by TheGamePost) says that the successful candidate will "drive projects that extend the Destiny franchise into new categories including TV, films, books, comics, and audio formats." Bungie itself doesn't appear to be hiring for positions to create the new range of Destiny products in-house. Instead, the new executive's role will be to "identify, select, guide, collaborate, and provide feedback to third parties and partners enabling them to tell additional myths in the Destiny universe...
At last there’s a new Guitar Hero game, only this one doesn’t require you to dust off the pile of plastic peripherals you’ve long since stashed on a shelf in your garage. A musical voyage of personal discovery for its axe-wielding star, Francis Vendetti, The Artful Escape is a story-driven platforming adventure that weaves in light rhythm game mechanics as you blaze fiery riffs through cosmic rifts across the universe and back again. Inspired intergalactic environments, a charmingly quirky cast, and some sparklingly grandiose guitarwork propel The Artful Escape into what becomes a genuinely magical mystery tour. Although it features numerous beasts from other worlds to confront along the way, the major villain in The Artful Escape...
Life is Strange: True Colors has kept me more emotionally invested than any Life is Strange story since I played the original back in 2015. While every game in this adventure series is good in its own way, this one (from developer Deck Nine as opposed to the series’ creators at Dontnod) addresses many consistent issues that have plagued the last three games. It proves to be the best in the series thanks to consistent writing for both main and side characters, a compelling mystery story with good pacing, useful supernatural abilities, and perhaps most importantly, dialogue choices that offer more depth and complexity with big and most small decisions that actually impact the story in meaningful ways throughout the course of five...
Activision Blizzard is currently facing serious ongoing allegations of harassment and mistreatment of marginalized workers. To learn more, please visit our timeline as well as our in-depth report on the subject. Diablo 2: Resurrected won't feature ultrawide monitor support when it launches on September 23 due to the discovery that the wider screens break AI mechanics within the original game. Following the technical beta for Diablo 2: Resurrected, developer Vicarious Visions and Blizzard Entertainment took to updating fans on a number of in-game features that the team has revisited. As well as briefing players on changes that had been made to console lobbies and offering more insight into the removal of TCP/IP support (which it...
Sony has acquired UK developer Firesprite, marking the third studio acquisition from Sony this year alone. As noted on the PlayStation Blog, Firesprite has worked closely with Sony, creating several titles together. Most notably, the developer helped to create The Playroom and The Playroom VR. Firesprite is also the developer behind The Persistence, a horror shooter originally released on the PS4 as a PSVR title before becoming a non-VR version on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC two years later. "We’ve had the pleasure of working with many talented developers and publishers across the industry and PlayStation, in particular, has been a friend and co-development partner for the best part of a decade," Firesprite Managing Director...
With Forza Horizon 5 just around the corner, Xbox Game Studios and Playground Games have revealed a huge list of cars that players will be able to choose from when setting out across the game's vast and diverse Mexican landscape. Despite the list already containing several hundred cars, the developer has confirmed that there's still more to come. Forza Motorsport's official website currently lists 426 different vehicles to drive. Playground announced a number of debutants on the list as well as confirming that more cars would be added in due course. The post reads, "stay tuned, because this isn’t the final list for launch date. We’ll be expanding it with even more cars and manufacturers in the weeks leading up to Nov. 9, so be sure to...
The newest Magic: The Gathering set Innistrad: Midnight Hunt will be upon us soon, and it sees the massively successful trading card game return to a world of gothic horror. Werewolves, zombies, vampires and spirits await in Innistrad, a plane first introduced 11 years ago and that remains popular today. One of the most exciting additions will be the 19 new double-faced werewolf cards. Long term players will be familiar with the mechanic of transforming from a human form on one side to a werewolf on the other, but the new global day-night cycle offers a significant twist, meaning that a card can enter play as a werewolf if it’s nighttime. Be sure to check out IGN’s existing coverage of the new day-night cycle as well as new mechanics...
Ubisoft has sprung some proper bargains on us today. Most of those concern PC folks, though I have found a few choice savings on Nintendo Switch as well. Fellow retroholics such as myself should pay attention to the Sega classics going for 50% off on Xbox. Epic Games has been showcasing the upcoming Unreal Engine 5 with a series of impressive tech demos, and now the protagonist from those demos is coming to Fortnite. Also, she’s apparently named Windwalker Echo. Windwalker Echo is the formerly unnamed character that has starred in Epic’s various Unreal Engine 5 tech demos. This includes the Lumen in the Land of Nanite tech video that showed off the lighting and geometry tool as well as the Valley of the Ancient tech demo. Both Lumen in the Land of Nanite and Valley of the Ancient are playable tech demos even though there’s no plan to create a game starring Windwalker Echo. But she will at least be playable in Fortnite starting tonight. Unreal Engine 5 is currently available in Early...
Billionaire and former Walmart executive Marc Lore has shared his vision for a new city in America, that will cost $400 billion to build. CNN reports that the new city, called Telosa, is being designed to be a sustainable metropolis located in a desert somewhere in the U.S. Right now, city planners are considering Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Arizona, and Texas. The city's layout is intended to allow residents to get to work, school, or anything else they may need within 15 minutes. The goal is for Telosa to be eco-friendly, with sustainable energy and water. At the center of it all is the Equitism Tower, a skyscraper designed to be, "a beacon for the city." The plan says the city will eventually grow to 150,000 acres, supporting 5 million...
It’s rare to see Studio Ghibli’s iconic and instantly recognizable anime art style take shape in a video game, but developer NAPS Team’s isometric action-adventure RPG, Baldo: The Guardian Owls, claims both Ghibli and The Legend of Zelda as its primary inspirations. Those are lofty ambitions, but Baldo rarely instills the same depth into its story or characters, and very little of it feels good to play. In fact, experiencing upwards of 50 hours of wildly inconsistent dungeon-crawling and puzzle-solving to reach its meager ending is more like wading knee-deep in a swamp than strolling through a park. The premise of a young boy attempting to save a world in danger is simple but effective for what’s intended as a light-hearted story...

Firaxis and 2K showed off nearly 20 minutes of gameplay focused almost entirely on the combat. This is the best look yet at the new tactics system that incorporates environmental attacks and a contentious new card system. The new gameplay deep dive video showcases the different elements that go into Midnight Suns’ combat system which combines elements of tactics and special hero powers. Plus, a look at how destructible environments can really shape the battle. Check out the video below. Last week, developer Firaxis revealed that Marvel’s Midnight Suns would involve a card battle system. This system is not like collectible card games like Hearthstone but instead will tie abilities to cards in a deck that can be played to activate...
