Thank your own personal deity—possibly Sparda—it's Friday! It's been a cracking Q1 so far, and I've located the best deals on all of the games that have impressed us. What's your pleasure? Getting all sorts of sideways in GT7? Picking apart robodinos from half a postcode away in Horizon FW? Or dying more times than Tom Cruise in Edge of Tomorrow with Elden Ring? They're all safe picks. Elden Ring has launched across PC and both current and last generation consoles, and it’s already made big waves. Suffice to say, it remains true to what people know and love about FromSoftware’s games – our full Elden Ring review gave it a solid 10. That said, it also makes some big changes to the usual formula that impact both its gameplay and technical performance. FromSoftware have always struggled with balancing the design aims and consistent performance, even though this is much better than previous games (helped in no small part to current-generation hardware) it still suffers greatly in performance and controller response due to this. The most significant change compared to past FromSoftware games is that the map is now vast...
Elden Ring is the UK's biggest game launch outside of FIFA and Call of Duty since 2018. Its first week on the market outperformed the launches of Cyberpunk 2077, Halo Infinite, Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Horizon Forbidden West according to physical and digital sales data from GSD, as reported by gamesindustry.biz. In fact, it's the biggest non-FIFA or Call of Duty launch for the UK since Red Dead Redemption arrived in October 2018. Horizon dropped down to second place this week, followed by FIFA 22, Grand Theft Auto 5, and Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Elden Ring has dominated the gaming conversation since it launched on February 25, growing in popular day after day on Steam and becoming one of the best reviewed games in modern...
Editor's Note: The war in Ukraine is an ongoing, painful and emotive topic. IGN urges community members to be respectful when engaging in conversation around this subject and does not endorse harassment of any kind. Co-founder of id Software John Romero has released a new Doom II level, almost 30 years after the game launched, to raise funds for Ukraine. Romero is selling the new level for €5 ($5.53) with all proceeds going to the Red Cross and the UN Central Emergency Response Fund working to support the people of Ukraine, he announced in a tweet (below). The "One Humanity" level is available from Romero's online store and requires an original copy of Doom II and a modern source port to play. Many in the games industry have...
Battlefield 2042 developer DICE is fixing issues in its "walking simulator" style maps but not until summer 2022 at the earliest. In a developer blog post DICE addressed a number of problems with its map design. It said that overly long travel time between points of interest, an issue frequently identified by players, is a result of its 128 player matches. "We've seen you use terms such as 'walking simulator' to describe how this feels in-game," the post said. "We understand that this isn't a satisfying experience and agree there's too much overall travel time." The team plans to fix this by moving the base spawn and flags closer together, focusing on the Kaleidoscope map first. The updated version will be released during...
Editor's Note: The war in Ukraine is an ongoing, painful and emotive topic. IGN urges community members to be respectful when engaging in conversation around this subject and does not endorse harassment of any kind. Cyberpunk and The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red has announced it will stop selling games in Russia and Belarus following the invasion of Ukraine. Announced on Twitter (below), CD Projekt said that it was "working with partners to suspend digital sales and cease physical stock deliveries of CD Projekt Red Group products, as well as all games distributed on the GOG platform, to the territories of Russia and Belarus." Explaining the move, CD Projekt said, "we do believe that commercial entities, when united, have the...

Following the successful launch of Lost Ark in North America, the developers announced that more content will be coming at a regular cadence starting in March with new story and raid content. Lost Ark was released in South Korea back in 2019 and has a head start on content that has yet to be released in the North American version. The developers say there is a “wealth of content present in the Korean version that has yet to make its way to the western shores of Arkesia.” However, this content will be released starting this month when a new storyline and raid will be released, as well as changes and fixes. First, the new storyline will introduce new quests, islands, and cinematics to Lost Ark. The quest will follow a cast of new and...
Lost Ark enjoyed a historically strong launch when it was released in mid-February, exploding to the top of the charts on Steam, Twitch, and other platforms. It has since leveled off somewhat, but that doesn't make its initial surge any less impressive. As of this article, it's sitting at a cool 134k viewers on Twitch, topped only by Grand Theft Auto 5 and the newly-released Elden Ring. Speaking via email, Amazon Games franchise leader Soomin Park spoke of the team's amazement at its reception, calling it a "labor of love." "The development teams at both Amazon Games and Smilegate RPG are absolutely shocked and thrilled by the reception of Lost Ark since launching in the West," Park said. "To say the teams at both studios have been...

The word is in: Gran Turismo 7 is a lovely mix of modern esportin' and that timeless OG GT grind. Bandcamp, an online music store and community, announced that it has been acquired by Fortnite creator Epic Games. The music company also confirmed that initiatives such as Bandcamp Fridays, where the platform waives its revenue share so artists receive all sales for a 24 hour period, and its online publication, Bandcamp Daily, will continue to operate as they currently are. Bandcamp says that joining Epic Games will allow it to expand internationally and push forward development across the platform, including working on mobile apps and merch tools, as well as search and discovery features. Additionally, Epic Games notes that Bandcamp will contribute to its vision of a "creator marketplace ecosystem" for content, technology, games...
Editor's Note: The war in Ukraine is an ongoing, painful and emotive topic. IGN urges community members to be respectful when engaging in conversation around this subject and does not endorse harassment of any kind. Kyiv-based STALKER 2 developer GSC Game World has defiantly said that development on the game will continue after Ukraine's victory over Russia in the ongoing war. In a video uploaded to GSC's YouTube channel titled "Lights! Camera! War...", the studio explained how its world had been turned upside down due to the Russian invasion. Captions in the video read: "The previous week we were editing the video about our motion capture studio. We wanted to show how the cutscenes were created, took time to watch the videos, write...
FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have announced that a new Elden Ring patch has been made available for the PC and PS5 versions of the game. Its list of fixes is small, but it makes some vital changes to the PC version in particular. Elden Ring's patch 1.02.2 fixes "an issue where the graphics card was not being used, resulting in slow performance." That's quite the fix, and will mean anyone who suffered from this bug will now be able to use the full power of their GPU, rather than running Elden Ring on their CPU's integrated graphics (something that presumably made the game near unplayable.) Alongside that, the PC version of the patch also fixes a bug that caused the game to quit during a battle with the Fire Giant, which is a...
Capcom is bringing Resident Evil 2 Remake, 3 Remake, and 7 to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series later this year, with free upgrades for existing owners. The three games will receive visual enhancements for the new consoles, and those who already own them on PS4 and Xbox One will receive free digital upgrades. Capcom also confirmed that PC versions of the games will receive upgrade patches at the same time as the PS5 and Xbox Series versions are released. Each of the three titles will be updated to include ray tracing, high frame rate, and 3D audio. The PS5 versions will also utilise the DualSense controller's Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers. This means that four out of the eight mainline Resident Evil games will be officially...
Elden Ring publisher Bandai Namco has informed its Japanese staff that they will all receive a pay increase from this April. The average monthly salary will be increased by 50,000 yen. Announced to staff on February 28, the publisher said in a press release (translated by IGN Japan) "Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. will increase the ratio of basic salary to annual income from April 2022, with the aim of improving working conditions by stabilizing employee income. We will introduce a new compensation system that raises the basic salary by an average of 50,000 yen per month for all employees. In addition, the starting salary will be raised from the previous 232,000 yen per month to 290,000 yen per month." The press release outlines...
Elden Ring is already being played by a Twitch chat, as players continue to seek the wackiest ways to play developer FromSoftware's latest. Twitch streamer Bruce Greene put his chat to work when he stepped away from his computer in a stream to support charities helping Ukrainian civilians and refugees. The Twitch chat took control of his Elden Ring gameplay as Greene slept (in a tent with a bonfire) by spamming chat-based commands to move forward, back, roll, use items, and so on, in a trend that gained prominence in 2014 with Twitch Plays Pokémon. The results were naturally chaotic, and resulted in death after death, but the chat was eventually able to move around with a bit of consistency. However, don't expect the triumphs of a...
It's safe to say Sylvanas Windrunner is among the most beloved characters in the vast Warcraft universe, so it's only fitting that she becomes the subject of the latest World of Warcraft tie-in novel. IGN can exclusively debut an excerpt from writer Christie Golden's World of Warcraft: Sylvanas ahead of its March 29 release date. Golden has penned a number of World of Warcraft novels in recent years, including 2009's Arthas: Rise of the Lich King and 2012's Jaina Proudmoore: Tides of War. As with Arthas, Sylvanas aims to provide a full account of the titular character's life and death and the cursed existence that now defines her. The book will also lend new insight into her relationship with the being known as the Jailer. This...
As Elden Ring continues to prove itself a cultural phenomenon, it's now extended beyond the gaming sphere into the world of candy. Trolli has created its own range of official Elden Ring gummies called Sweet Peachie Elden Rings, though unfortunately they're incredibly limited and not actually for sale. In a tweet, below, Trolli Candy joked: "We have searched The Lands Between with our delicious sour gummi bodies and have found these Sweet Peachie Elden Rings. "For the sake of all the Tarnished, we will devour them with great speed!" Sadly, Trolli made clear to one fan that the Rings are not for sale – and they seem to have been created purely to send to influencers and notable figures in the game industry. Game Awards creator...
Ghostwire: Tokyo – Prelude has been released on PlayStation 4 and 5, a visual novel prequel that focuses on one of the game's main characters, KK, six months before the events of the main game. KK is the voice inside protagonist Akito's head in Ghostwire, but in Prelude he's a normal human detective investigating a series of urban legends come to life. Announced on the PlayStation Blog, Prelude has been designed to give players a taste of Ghostwire's world ahead of the main game's release date of March 25. Scenario writer Takahiro Kaji said: "There’s a different, kind of more relaxed atmosphere in the visual novel. KK is a veteran, accustomed to the situation, working within his realm of expertise and there’s good teamwork with...
Destiny 2 cannot currently be played on Steam Deck, and those who attempt to get around restrictions may be banned. In an update to its support page for Destiny 2 to coincide with the Steam Deck's launch, developer Bungie said the game is not supported on Valve's new handheld or any device that uses Proton, Valve's Linux solution for playing Window-compatible games. Destiny 2 can be installed but not launched on Proton, and "players who attempt to bypass incompatibility will be met with a game ban," according to the page. Bungie notes that Destiny 2 could work if "Windows is installed and running", but this is currently not possible on Steam Deck. As we noted in our review in progress of the Steam Deck, Windows can be installed...
Valve has acknowledged early reports of 'stick drift' on Steam Deck, thankfully saying that this is a "deadzone calibration issue" that should be fixed by a new firmware update. Stick drift is an issue that affects many gaming controllers, in which the controller registers left or right stick inputs that are not actually being put in by the player. Reports of stick drift issues on Steam Deck began spreading yesterday, March 1, and many worried that this was a hardware issue, as it appears to be in the likes of Nintendo's Joy-Con controllers. Thankfully, Valve says this is a firmware issue, and a fix has already been applied. In a statement to IGN, a Valve spokesperson wrote: "The team has looked into these reports and has determined...

The Game Awards is a big celebration for video games that are put on at the end of every single year. Thousands of viewers watch it every year and so video game developers love to have their own games showcased on it. What's even better is if your own game wins an award. Celeste was among the games that won big in 2018, but apparently never received an actual trophy... at least until it was recovered by a Youtuber who happened to be visiting eBay. PrestigeIsKey, or Ryan B., is a Youtuber and streamer. He always wanted a replica of the Game Award trophy, so he scoured eBay for the past five years to see if there were any. He ended up coming across a listing for $500 that contained one. After putting in an offer for $375, the seller...
FromSoftware fans are on a different level, known for beating games like Dark Souls with banana controllers, Donkey Kong bongos, and more. Naturally, players are already experimenting with unique play styles for Elden Ring, with one fan taking down a boss using Nintendo's Ring Fit Adventure controller. If you're unfamiliar, Ring Fit Adventure is an exercise game on Nintendo Switch that uses a controller called the Ring-Con, which is basically a Pilates ring with a Joy-Con attached to it. It also makes use of a leg strap with the other Joy-Con fitted inside. In Ring Fit Adventure, players use the Ring-Con and leg strap to perform different forms of exercise. Now, SuperLouis64 — the very same streamer who beat Dark Souls with bananas...
Xbox One players initially missed out on Microsoft Flight Simulator, but last-gen console owners can now access the game on their hardware. Plus, you can experience the wonders of flying anywhere you want without having to commit nearly 100 GB of storage space to install the game. This is because Microsoft Flight Simulator is coming to Xbox Cloud Gaming through Xbox Game Pass. All Game Pass subscribers can now stream Flight Simulator in 1080p/30fps on Xbox One, as well as other devices that support Xbox Cloud Gaming like Series X|S, phones, tablets, and PCs. Microsoft says the multiplayer experience is the same across all devices, meaning you can play with your friends no matter what hardware they are on. Plus, if you already made...
We live in an age of throwbacks, nostalgia, and spiritual successors, but it's not too often that I'm as immediately drawn in by one as I have been with Songs of Conquest. Seeking to recapture the heyday of fantasy strategy classics like Heroes of Might and Magic, developer Lavapotion has put together a relatively simple formula that nonetheless has plenty of built-in depth. It's not trying to be overly ambitious or completely reinvent the genre, but that helps to make it a breath of fresh air in a lot of the right ways. There are two layers to Songs of Conquest: a turn-based campaign map where you'll move your hero and their followers around to find secrets, complete quests, and gather resources, and a tactical battle screen where...
