Resident Evil 4 Remake got a few more seconds of gameplay in today's Capcom Showcase, possibly confirming a major addition in the process: Leon Kennedy can move while aiming his gun. During the trailer, Leon is briefly shown aiming his gun, seemingly continuing to move while he does so. If this is the case, it stands to fundamentally change Resident Evil 4, which was famous for making you stand your ground against the hordes of the ganado. Indeed, Dead Space, which was heavily inspired by Capcom's horror classic, was famously "Resident Evil 4 with the ability to aim while moving." You can judge for yourself around the 1:48 mark of the video. In addition to the additional glimpses of gameplay, Capcom also offered a quick story recap...
Capcom is adding an option to play the entirety of Resident Evil Village from a third-person viewpoint, but you'll need to buy the new DLC to access it. Announced at today's Capcom Showcase, the new DLC for Resident Evil: Village includes three major features, including a third-person mode that finally gives us a look at the elusive Ethan Winters. Despite the switch to third-person, it appears faceless protagonist Ethan Winters will continue to obscure his face, moving to face away from the camera (even though mods reveal what he looks like). After 6 games (and multiple spin-offs) that used a third-person perspective, Resident Evil 7 and Village switched to a first-person view – a move that has been divisive among long term fans...
The remakes of Resident Evils 2 and 3, as well as Resident Evil 7, have gotten free-next gen upgrades for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Announced at Capcom's Summer Showcase event, the upgrades are available today, and add support for 4K, high frame rate, ray tracing, and 3D audio. It's a very welcome update for the modern era of Resident Evil. Resident Evil 7 made a huge change for the series with a switch to first-person, and we said it's "the closest a numbered sequel has come to recapturing Resident Evil’s slow, but thrilling and atmospheric adventure game roots in a while," in a 7.7/10 review. Resident Evil 2 was a hugely successful update to the beloved original. We gave it 9/10, saying it "expertly reanimates the horrifying...
Capcom is adding multiple new playable characters to Resident Evil Village's Mercenaries mode, including fan-favorite vampire villain Lady Dimitrescu, where you will be able to gaze down on enemies from "nine feet above." Announced at today's Capcom summer showcase, Lady Dimitrescu, fellow boss Heisenberg, and Chris Redfield will become part of the playable character line-up. This is on top of new stages and other content, such as a brand-new third-person mode, and the ability to play through Resident Evil Village's full campaign on PlayStation VR2. Mercenaries Mode is an arcade-style rework of the main Resident Evil Village campaign, which unlocks after you beat the game for the first time. Many will be pleased to see more from...
Capcom has revealed Resident Evil Village's story DLC, Shadows of Rose. This story contains spoilers for Resident Evil Village. The DLC expansion will follow Rose, the daughter of main game protagonist, Ethan Winters. In contrast the the core game, it will take place from a third-person viewpoint. As teased by the game's post-credits scene, Rose is now a teenager, and is assisting Chris Redfield in some regard. Given that we got a tease that Ethan is still alive at the end of the game, we can assume he'll factor into the story somehow. Perhaps most interestingly, the DLC will take place in third-person, marking the first time a new, mainline Resident Evil game has used the perspective since Resident Evil 6. The DLC will be...
Exoprimal is a full-price release, it prizes PvE over PvP, and no, it has absolutely nothing to do with Dino Crisis. Since its announcement, it has been unclear what form Exoprimal will take, and even if it will be a free-to-play live service game. Speaking to IGN, producer Ichiro Kiyokawa made clear this was not the case, saying "Exoprimal is not free-to-play; it's a full-priced release which will be available both on disc and digitally." In the spirit of putting speculation to bed, we also asked the game's creators whether the new Capcom dnosaur game has any connection with the old Capcom dinosaur game, Dino Crsisi. Director Takuro Hiraoka was very clear: "No, the game is its own unique thing and has no relationship to Dino...
Capcom has revealed a new gameplay trailer for co-op dinosaur-murder action game Exoprimal, and it’s looking stranger than ever. We’ll get to experience how strange in a closed network test ahead of its 2023 launch. In a trailer shown at Capcom's 2022 summer showcase, we get hints at the game’s story, gameplay, and see many of the dinosaurs themselves. Suffice it to say, the upcoming PvPvE game is looking action-packed, and more than a little odd. The trailer also showed off a little more of the game’s PvP elements, showing how players will not just be taking on hordes of dinosaurs, but whole other teams of heavily armed and armored players. During the course of the trailer, we see raptors, triceratops, ankylosaur and T-Rex AI...

Just a few months after the game’s release, Dying Light 2 is already diving into its five year plan for free continued content expansions. Patch 1.4, which launches on June 14, will introduce a number of new features through “In the Footsteps of Nightrunner,” the first Chapter in the game’s new Chapters program. According to a press release, each Chapter will introduce new characters and factions with "absolutely free content that’s being permanently added to the game and will be available to players at any time." "Chapters are a new thing for us: an experiment from our science lab,” lead designer Tymon Smektała tells IGN. “We have quite a lot — though never enough! — experience in supporting our games in the long run, but this kind...

It will once again be left to players to imagine what their character sounds like in Starfield, with Bethesda confirming via a tweet today that the main protagonist will be silent. It marks a return to type for Bethesda's RPGs. While the main character of Bethesda's Fallout 4 did have a voice, Starfield is following the path carved by some of the studio's earlier games. Historically, many of the protagonists in popular Bethesda developed games like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 3 were silent. In another reversion, Starfield's dialogue will also take place in the first-person. Players will not be limited to first-person throughout the game, as Starfield will also include a third-person camera. Fallout 4's spoken dialogue...
If you ask me, there will always be room in the world for more games like Devil May Cry, and the upcoming Soulstice, developed by Reply Game Studios, certainly waves the “like Devil May Cry” banner proudly. It’s a combat driven character action game featuring fixed camera angles, a variety of hot-swappable weapons, slick air combos, and plenty of glowing red crystals to absorb as currency for new techniques. All of these similarities to the DMC series certainly grabbed my attention, but what’s held it are all the ways Soulstice attempts to carve out its own identity within the character action genre. Soulstice puts you in control of two characters at once: sisters named Briar and Lute. You primarily control Briar, using her powerful...
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 developer Infinity Ward is seemingly working on an open world RPG at their Kraków, Poland based studio. A now fulfilled job posting (that was screenshotted and posted on Twitter) advertised a narrative director position whose responsibilities would include providing "the best narrative and cinematic experience in an open world RPG". Spotted by GamesRadar, the tweet from Call of Duty news account @charlieINTEL makes clear this is for an "unannounced AAA project" with a non-linear narrative set in an open world. The project, though its existence is still unconfirmed, appears to be in a very early stage considering Infinity Ward has only just finished advertising for the narrative director that will "set...
Two legendary hip-hop artists from the Wu-Tang Clan are featured on the soundtrack of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge. Produced by Tee Lopes, the song "We Ain't Came To Lose," has both Raekwon and Ghostface Killah contribute a verse. Ghostface raps from the perspective of being Shredder, saying that he'll "squish turtles" and how the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are "fake ninjas." Raekwon's verse is from the perspective of the Turtles, where he references extra-large pizza and mentions a few of the characters' weapons, like Leonardo's swords and Michelangelo's nunchucks. The full soundtrack for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge will be available on June 16 via streaming and download. Kidkatana is also...
When The Callisto Protocol was shown during Geoff Keighley’s Summer Games Fest event last week, the kneejerk reaction among fans and observers was that it looked a lot like Dead Space — same style and a similar UI, even more gore. But one action game may loom even larger than Visceral’s genre classic: God of War 2018. Released a full decade after Dead Space, it’s proven highly influential in the way that it split the difference between open world adventures and more linear action-adventure games. The Callisto Protocol is among the action games that appear to be following its lead, with optional paths and exploration that sound very similar to PlayStation’s seminal action game. With apologies to the Dead Space fans who are still...
Diablo 4 will be updated "for years to come", including with both paid cosmetics and full story expansions. Following the release of new gameplay for Diablo 4 at the Xbox Bethesda Game Showcase, franchise lead Rod Fergusson took to Twitter (below) to answer some fan questions regarding the game. "To be clear, [Diablo 4] s a full price game built for PC/[PlayStation]/Xbox audiences," he said. "We are committed to delivering an incredible breadth of content after launch, for years to come, anchored around optional cosmetic items and full story driven expansions." It's unclear how many DLC packs will be released for Diablo 4, nor how frequently they will arrive after the game is launched in 2023, but Fergusson promised that more...
Warhammer 40K: Darktide is really, actually coming out on September 13, making it one of the few next-gen Xbox exclusives that Series X owners have to look forward to this Fall. As such, it is quite likely to benefit from the extra attention from Xbox gamers starved for fresh content. After playing through one of this Warhammer-meets-Left-4-Dead mashup’s dozen four-player co-op missions, I’m pleased to report that Darktide looks set to be both worthy of that attention and approachable to players both familiar with and new to Warhammer, and/or anyone who’s played Vermintide 2. The mission I played took 30 minutes to complete and was set in a tank factory, though the developers at Fatshark told me that most of the other missions are set...
Starfield fans seem to have spotted our own solar system in Starfield, alongside real-life NASA projects – which means Earth may be explorable. Reddit users are scanning every second of gameplay revealed during the Xbox Bethesda Game Showcase and believe they've found evidence that players will be able to visit Earth in the 24th century. During a section of the showing, in which Bethesda's Todd Howard explained that Starfield has more than 1,000 planets to explore, users spotted that our solar systems, Sol is seemingly one of the systems that players can travel to. With each planet in each system fully explorable, it seems a safe bet to say that Earth is among them – but what state we find it in is a different question entirely...
Forza Horizon developer Playground Games originally pitched a Project Gotham Racing reboot to Microsoft, before switching gears to its now-iconic racing spin-off series. Speaking to GQ about the newly revealed Forza Motorsport, studio head Trevor Williams explained that he'd originally met the creators of the core Forza series and pitched a reboot of the long-dormant, much-loved Project Gotham Racing (originally developed by now-defunct studio Bizarre Creations). Williams says his initial idea was shut down, and he and his team – while still at the restaurant – had to make a last-minute switch to pitching a spin-off in the Forza franchise: "It was one of those stories where the steak turns to ash in your mouth, and I'm thinking...
FromSoftware has released patch 1.05 for Elden Ring that fixes dozens of bugs and adds a handful of minor features. The update, which is available on all platforms (with a handful of PC-only features), doesn't include any show-stopping fixes in particular but rather makes minor changes to a wide range of areas to improve the general experience of playing Elden Ring. These include fixes for bugs in which some attacks of the Ice Spear skill are unguardable, one that caused Malenia, Goddess of Rot to have low health under certain circumstances, and another that prevented hostile NPCs from appearing under certain circumstances. There are more than 50 changes overall, with some small additions such as summoning sign sound effects being...
Kojima Productions has made clear it still has a good relationship with PlayStation, despite announcing an Xbox exclusive game. Hideo Kojima revealed his studio would be making "a completely new game that no one has ever experienced or seen before" at the Xbox Bethesda Game Showcase on June 12, causing some to question the studio's ties to PlayStation. "After the announcement of our partnership with Microsoft using the cloud technology, many people have asked us about our collaboration with [Sony Interactive Entertainment]," the Kojima Productions Twitter page posted (below). "Please be rest assured that we continue to have a very good partnership with PlayStation as well." The developer has previously been synonymous with Sony's...
Half-Life Alyx is one of the best VR games around, and a talented team of modders are building upon the original with a campaign expansion titled Half-Life Alyx: Levitation. At today's PC Gaming Show, seven minutes of gameplay were revealed for the upcoming mod, which follows up on the events from the main game's campaign. The mod is coming from CS:GO map designer and artist Shawn Snelling, who is known as FMPONE in the modding community, and animator Corey Laddo, who is known among Half-Life fans for creating viral G-Man memes. The two modders, along with a team of volunteer modders, animators, and voice actors, have created the free campaign that takes between four and five hours to complete. The story picks up right after the end...
The Invincible is an upcoming sci-fi exploration game coming from veteran AAA developers, and we got our first look at footage for the game as part of today's PC Gaming Show. The new gameplay features Dr. Yasna, a scientist exploring a desert planet to find their missing crewmates. The game takes cues from Firewatch, as Dr. Yasna is speaking to a character named Novik on the radio, as they discuss what could have happened to the missing crew. The game's pace is very calm and quiet, letting the players experience the highly-detailed environment and listen to the conversation play out. The trailer ends with what appears to be Yasna's death, implying the game could feature multiple playable characters. You can check out the gorgeous...
We're inching closer and closer to the release of the long-awaited System Shock remake, as the game got a new trailer as part of today's PC Gaming Show. Today's trailer opened with a voiceover from ther antagonist SHODAN breaking the fourth wall by introducing the trailer to the audience. What followed was new footage of System Shock's first-person gameplay, showcasing shooting, electric swordplay, and some puzzles on the colorful cyberpunk Citadel space station. The original System Shock released on PC in 1994. It's a horror game set on a spacestation in 2072 called Citadel Station, and players control a hacker tasked with ruining the plans of a rogue AI named SHODAN. No release date for the remake was given, but director of...
After pausing development due to the war in Ukraine, STALKER 2 now appears to be set for a 2023 release. Following today's Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, Xbox tweeted a graphic with images of its upcoming games. You'll notice STALKER 2 is listed under the 2023 side of the graphic, seemingly confirming that the game has been delayed again. However, it seems the game is targeting the first half of 2023, as Xbox notes that all games listed in the image are targeting to release over the next 12 months. Earlier this year, STALKER 2 was pushed back from April 2022 to December 2022. At the time, GSC Game World said the delay would help the team "fulfill our vision and achieve the desired state of the game." Shortly after this...
Nintendo Switch owners have been asking for Switch ports of the beloved Persona series for years; a request that only intensified after Persona 5 Strikers came to the platform. However, even after PC and Xbox ports of three Persona titles were announced today, the series still isn’t headed to Nintendo's hybrid console. The fabled Switch port of Persona 5 has been rumored for years, sparking hope among the community. There was even a Best Buy listing for a Persona 5 Switch release back in 2019, but it still hasn't come to fruition. After Persona 5 protagonist Joker arrived as a DLC fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, an Atlus representative even told fans to "never ever give up on hope" and to "keep fighting" for a Switch port...
During today's Xbox-Bethesda Showcase, Microsoft announced that everything shown would be playable in the next 12 months. There was some question whether that would include the Hollow Knight: Silksong, but now Xbox has seemingly confirmed that the long-awaited follow-up will indeed be out within a year. The confirmation came via a tweet from the official Xbox Twitter account reading, "Everything you're seeing today is playable over the next 12 months." When a fan replied asking whether that included Silksong, Xbox confirmed that it did. Xbox head of global gaming Sarah Bond also confirmed that Silksong would be available within the year. The confusion stemmed from a graphic listing every game coming to Xbox and PC over the next 12...
Bethesda finally pulled the curtain back on Starfield at today's Microsoft and Bethesda Games Showcase, and new gameplay footage of the upcoming space epic is reminding gamers of another sci-fi exploration game: No Man's Sky. No Man's Sky is the procedurally generated space exploration game developed by Hello Games that originally launched in 2016. While early reception of the game was not so positive, consistent content updates have managed to turn the game around. Earlier this year, No Man's Sky creator Sean Murray said the game isn't close to being finished, even after 19 major updates. There are certainly grounds for comparison between the two titles, as Starfield's first gameplay video showed a character in a spacesuit exploring...
Ark 2 will be a third-person game with "Souls-like melee combat" and a whole AI enemy force to fight against in PvE. In other words, it sounds pretty different to the original Ark: Survival Evolved. After the game got a new trailer at the Xbox-Bethesda summer showcase, developer Studio Wildcard sent a press release explaining a number of newly announced features, and it uncluded some surprising details. The biggest is that the game swaps the original's first-person perspective for third-person, promising, "Advanced character traversal mechanics include mantling, free-climbing, parkour, sliding, and swinging!" Connected to that change is a promise of melee combat similar to FromSoftware's Souls games, offering "Target-lock, blocks...
