This week marks the 10th anniversary of the launch of the PS4. A console packed full of incredible games such as God of War, Bloodborne, and The Last of Us Part 2, it can prove very hard to pick a single favourite from the library. Well, we decided to try anyway. Below, we asked several IGN members of staff to choose just one game that jumps out at them when they hear the words “PlayStation 4”. Don’t see your favourite mentioned anywhere? Let us know what you’d pick and why in the comments. Simon Cardy - Red Dead Redemption 2 There’s no world I enjoyed or got lost in more frequently on the PS4 than Red Dead Redemption 2. The long-awaited Wild West sequel fulfilled all hopes about what Rockstar could do when imprinting their trademark...
All Mortal Kombat 1 characters have Brutalities — unique moves that end a match in a particularly brutal fashion. They’re triggered by doing an extra input command on top of a specific combo ender or move that wins the final round. Most of the characters in the game have six brutalities, but players are starting to discover hidden brutalities, too. Recently released DLC character Omni-Man has a secret brutality that’s in essence an alternate version of one of his existing brutalities. For detailed instructions, head over to IGN’s Mortal Kombat 1 how to do hidden brutalities guide. But in short, you need to perform Omni-Man’s 'You Got Boned' Brutality but hold down both triggers as you press down three times during the throw animation...
Boutique video game publisher Annapurna has announced its first acquisition, 24 Bit Games, for an undisclosed fee. Based in Johannesburg, 24 Bit Games is described as South Africa’s “largest and most successful” game company, and has worked to support development on a number of Annapurna games, including the recently released and superb Cocoon. The acquisition of 24 Bit Games expands Annapurna’s Interactive Division, the company said, and will help the studio grow its development team. “Annapurna has been working with 24 Bit for many years, and we value not only the caliber of their work, but their team as well,” said Deborah Mars, Co-Head, Annapurna Interactive. “They’ve always shared our commitment to quality, and by taking our...
Epic Games is taking an additional step to curb inappropriate behavior in Fortnite by introducing a new voice reporting feature, making it easier for players to easily clip audio and anonymously file a report whenever they catch another player violating the community rules. In a blog post, Epic reveals that the feature will always be on for voice chats for players under 18, with the only ways to avoid audio capture either turning off voice chat entirely or muting their mic. Players over the age of 18 will have the option to customize their voice chat reporting features by heading into the audio settings. When a user is filing a report, audio from the last five minutes is uploaded and sent to Epic's moderators, who will review the...
Developer Maple Leaf and Leap Studio and publisher 663 Games have announced Realm of Ink, and upcoming roguelite with a beautiful Chinese ink painting art style that's in development for PC and consoles and due out in Q1 2024. It’s a mixed bag for Payday 3, Starbreeze’s co-op shooter that saw impressive early sales but has since struggled significantly. Payday 3's launch was plagued with server issues that forced Starbreeze CEO Tobias Sjögren to apologise. The developer apologised again for a lack of communication, then apologised again for failing to deliver a promised patch. Despite all this, Starbreeze said Payday 3 had an impressive 3.1 million players as of October 2, a figure no doubt boosted by launching day-one on Xbox Game Pass. But there is a question mark over Payday 3's current popularity, which appears to have dwindled. At the time of publication, more people are playing the 10-year old Payday 2 on Steam than Payday 3. Starbreeze and...
Forgive us if we’re starting to sound like a broken record, but Ark: Survival Ascended’s launch on Xbox has been delayed. It’s the third time developer Studio Wildcard has delayed its dinosaur survival game in a month. Earlier this week, Ark: Survival Ascended’s Xbox Series X and S release date was delayed just a day before it was due to come out. Developer Studio Wildcard had already delayed the console version following the Steam launch, with the Xbox and Windows PC version set to come out on November 14, and the PlayStation 5 version due out at some point later this month. Studio Wildcard had said Ark: Survival Ascended was going through Xbox’s certification process, which caused the delay, but expected the game to launch on Xbox...
Embracer Group has said it has laid off 904 staff, or 5% of its workforce, since its financial struggles began following the collapse of a $2 billion deal, reportedly with Saudi government funded company Savvy Games Group. The Swedish firm has come under fire for the sweeping cuts it has made so far in 2023, including the closure of long-running Saints Row maker Volition. During a financial presentation, Embracer said its internal headcount was reduced by 713 people (511 developers and 202 non-developers), and its external developer headcount was reduced by 191. In total, 15 mostly unannounced projects were “written down” across Amplifier, Freemode, Gearbox, Plaion, Saber, and THQ Nordic, Embracer said. In a presentation to deliver...
Earlier this evening, wrestling promotion All Elite Wrestling (AEW) teamed up with Sega to promote upcoming game Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, in the wildest possible way. They got together some of the nerdiest wrestlers possible and put on a Like a Dragon-themed street fight complete with heat actions, improvised weapons, and cosplay. And it absolutely ruled. The match has been promoted for over a week now as a four-on-four street fight with the team of Powerhouse Hobbs, Konosuke Takeshita, Brian Cage, and Kyle Fletcher facing off against known Like a Dragon fan Kenny Omega, Chris Jericho, Kota Ibushi, and Paul Wight. From the get-go, everyone involved seemed fully committed to the bit. Omega's team recorded a...
If money's tight and you're hanging for a holiday, it's time to make a more creative getaway booking. Might I suggest you purchase a low-cost ticket to the Mushroom Kingdom, perhaps followed by an extended layover in the Galar or Sinnoh regions. They're all absolutely lovely this time of year. Though with the latter two options, well, you'll be constantly ambushed by native wildlife. So maybe get that rabies shot. History-wise, we have two bona fide greats to celebrate. It's been 19 years since Half-Life 2 (and the Source engine in general) blew our minds like a gravity-blasted toilet to the bonce. And it's been 16 years since the launch of one of the best 3D Mario games ever. My mushroom kingdom for a Switch port of its...
Assassin's Creed Mirage will be getting a New Game+ mode and an optional permadeath mode for all difficulties via a free update in December. Assassin's Creed's X/Twitter account shared the news while also confirming more details about these new additions will arrive in the near future. "We hear you: New Game+ mode for Assassin's Creed Mirage will be available in a free update this December," Assassin's Creed's account wrote. "And for the expert Assassins, along with NG+ will come an optional permadeath mode also available across all difficulties! More details to come soon." Assassin's Creed Mirage was released in October and Ubisoft revealed its launch was "in line" with previous entries in the series like Assassin's Creed Origins...
The long-delayed Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is finally seeing release in February 2024, and fans just got another look at the game via the first in a series of developer diaries. That new video not only reveals new gameplay footage and the fact that Metropolis will be twice the size of Arkham City’s Gotham map, it also addresses perhaps the single biggest mystery surrounding the plot of the game. Namely, how exactly can a team this small and underpowered hope to defeat the entire Justice League? Let’s take a closer look at how the new Suicide Squad footage addresses this mystery and opens the door to the wider DC Universe in the process. The Suicide Squad’s Power Level The main character roster in Suicide Squad: Kill the...
Larian Studios has announced that it will be revealing the release date for Baldur's Gate 3 on Xbox Series X|S at The Game Awards 2023 and that it's still on track for the end of the year. "Xbox players, we hear you’re looking for more news on Baldur’s Gate 3. The game is on track for a December release," Larian said in statement. "We’ll see you at The Game Awards for the World Premiere of the exact release date." Baldur's Gate 3 was released for PC and PS5 a few months ago, but the Xbox version still had some issues due to the Series S's inability to perform splitscreen. While Microsoft's policy is to have gameplay feature parity for the Xbox Series X and S versions, Microsoft granted Baldur's Gate 3 a massive exception to launch...
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is going big. Rocksteady confirmed that its version of Metropolis will be twice the size of the Gotham City depicted in Batman: Arkham Knight, giving players a substantial playground to explore. In a video uploaded as part of the game's new developer diary series, Rocksteady revealed new details on Suicide Squad's story and gameplay, some of which had previously been leaked on social media. Among other details, traversal is said to be "at the very core of the game," with each character having their own unique way of getting across the larger map. Harley Quinn, for example, is more acrobatic, using her grapple abilities to "take advantage of the environment," allowing her to swiftly evade a...
A hefty new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III patch is here, bringing with it major fixes to stability and map balance while adding in DLSS 3 support for PC players with RTX 40 GPUs. But not all of the updates were able to make the cut, forcing Sledgehammer to push them to the next patch. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Patch 1.33 is now live on all platforms, and you can read the full patch notes below. But while the patch brings with it a multitude of fixes, anticipated updates to the Zombies Mode and more have been delayed. "Due to unforeseen issues, not all of the changes scheduled for today’s update were able to be released," Sledgehammer wrote in a statement. "Our teams are hard at work to get key movement changes, Multiplayer...
Sony has revealed the full line-up of PlayStation Plus Games Catalog additions for November 2023, which includes Teardown, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, and PaRappa the Rapper 2. Announced on the PlayStation Blog, a total of 14 games are joining the library: nine in the Games Catalog available to Extra and Premium members and five in the Classic Games Catalog only available to Premium members. November perhaps doesn't include as many big hitters as last month, but a highlight is Teardown, which launches on PlayStation 5 today, November 15, and is available on the PlayStation Plus Games Catalog immediately. Perhaps the most surprising entry is Up from the PlayStation Portable coming to the Classics Games Catalog. PlayStation Plus...
The Last Faith feels like a good cover of a song you love, or a solid genre movie that isn’t going to push any boundaries, but will scratch an itch for digestible, reliable entertainment. If you like 2D platforming through big, non-linear maps that open up as you unlock new ways to maneuver around their obstacles, grinding through chaff that can be surprisingly resilient and clever on your way to big challenging boss fights, and a dark world fresh out of an apocalyptic event that needs your help to save whatever’s left of it, then this game is for you. It plays all the hits respectably, and even adds a few of its own flourishes, like an armory of clever weapons and flashy spells. But it does not over achieve, and is often a reminder of...

Film adaptations of Sega franchises like Persona and Yakuza/Like a Dragon are a possibility, the company has said. Speaking to CNBC, chief operating officer Shuji Utsumi said Sega is looking to continue the success of the Sonic the Hedgehog film adaptations by growing the reach of its other franchises too. Utsumi mentioned Persona and Yakuza/Like a Dragon specifically when talking about which other franchises it could expand, making clear Sega is considering several potential different areas of business to bring these IPs to. All these IPs can be somewhere else other than games soon. "We just revived Sonic in a big way, not only through games but also movies and TV shows, and actually Sonic is in Roblox too," Utsumi said. "And...
Payday 3 developer Starbreeze has addressed the game's rocky launch and revealed content players can expect soon, such as two legacy heists from Payday 2. In Starbreeze's first development update video, lead producer Andreas Häll-Penninger explained Payday 3's turbulent introduction, which saw several issues and no update for more than six weeks. "A lot of you want to know why this happened and what we've done to make sure we don't end up in this situation again," Häll-Penninger said. "To make a long, complicated, and technical story short, we found a critical error in our backend update pipeline just after the game went live. "As a result of this, there was a significant risk that any update we made could affect the player saves...
An intrepid Starfield explorer has reported the discovery of a unique breed of alien predator that suffocates its prey by sucking oxygen from the local atmosphere. In the wake of Starfield’s September launch, players have been busy exploring the myriad planets that make up the Settled Systems in search of beautiful vistas, weird aliens, and, of course, the mysteries and Easter eggs developer Bethesda habitually includes in its games. Recently, Reddit user DiamondZoyd posted a video, spotted by VG247, that details the player's encounter with a new species of bug-like alien that has a somewhat unorthodox method of subduing its next meal. The existence of the critter is first referenced in a conversation with the NPC Hadrian Sanon...
Overseer Games announces Kaiserpunk, a city-building grand strategy game set in an alternate history where World War I never ended. Flex your military might or economically cripple your foes in order to win. Kaiserpunk is in development for PC. Developer Overseer previously made Aquatico and Patron. For Kaiserpunk, they're combining two genres they feel are complementary: city-building and grand strategy. In the fictional alternate universe, the Treaty of Versailles was never signed and World War I raged on. It features over 100 different regions to conquer, and you'll need to organize your production chains, manage an efficient network of depots, keep your roads maintained, as well as train and maintain armies – all while keeping...
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is getting a Season Pass which includes an exclusive bonus quest available at launch, Ubisoft has announced. Revealed in a trailer ahead of its December 7 release date, Frontiers of Pandora's associate creative director Andrada Greciuc confirmed the game will feature two story expansions launching by the end of 2024 alongside an exclusive quest at launch that's locked away from players who don't own the Season Pass. The Season Pass will be available essentially for an extra $40 / £24.99 in the game's Gold Edition (priced at $109.99 / £94.99), which comes with some additional content too, and though Ubisoft hasn't confirmed if it will be available as a standalone purchase, it almost certainly will. An...
CD Projekt is releasing an official mod editor for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in 2024, meaning fans will soon be able to create their own custom content based on the beloved role-playing game's pre-existing assets. The Witcher X/Twitter account revealed the news, below, saying it is "thrilled" to reveal CD Projekt is working on the mod editor, which will be released for free sometime next year. "We're thrilled to announce that we're working on a mod editor for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt," the post said. "It will allow you to create your own experiences in the game by making something completely new or editing existing quests and content. We’re planning on releasing it for free in 2024." The mod editor will likely breathe further life...
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will be the longest Yakuza game to date, with the boss of developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio saying "if you go at it continuously, you’ll get sick". As reported by Japanese outlet Game Watch and translated by Automaton, RGG studio head Masayoshi Yokoyama said Infinite Wealth, essentially Yakuza 8, is a "monster class" video game. "The games take a long time to clear, don’t they? [Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name] not so much, but Infinite Wealth is a monster-class game longer than anything we’ve made so far," Yokoyama said. "If you go at it continuously, you’ll get sick, and it won’t end with just one or two all-nighters. This means that a lot of people are going to hesitate to play the...
Konami has released Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 patch 1.3.0, which addresses various issues with the controversial port. Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 launched last month with a number of issues Konami said it would sort out post-release, and fans had already criticised Konami for locking Metal Gear Solid 1 to 30 frames per second. IGN’s Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 Performance Review (original vs. PS5 and Xbox Series X and S) looked into how the port failed to meet expectations. The collection, as well as the individual games included within it, have a 'mixed' user review rating on Steam, with most users calling out the disappointing quality of the ports. Now, with the release of patch...
Turok 3 Remastered released earlier than intended on Nintendo Switch in Europe and Oceania, and as such contains a number of bugs yet to be fixed, its developer has warned. Nightdive Studios, of the System Shock remake fame, apologised for the confusion surrounding the release date of the remaster, which was delayed last minute to November 30 on all platforms. “This was not the plan,” the developer said. It seems this last minute delay came in too late for Nintendo of Europe's release schedule, and so Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion Remastered launched on the eShop in Europe and Oceania on November 14. Nightdive said it had worked with Nintendo of Europe to push back the launch date so the latest patch fixes were included, “but...
Lies of P update 1.3.0.0 is out now and makes some significant changes to gameplay. Highlights include the addition of new costumes, which can be found in the equipment and bag menu, a new category to the costume menu so players can equip masks and accessories together, and significant balance changes. The field difficulty has been decreased, with the attack speed of some monsters adjusted to make their attack more intuitive. Meanwhile, Rising Dodge is now a default ability so players have access to it from the start of the game. Earlier this month, Lies of P publisher Neowiz teased the game’s first DLC and confirmed plans to release a sequel. Lies of P sold one million copies in less than a month after developer Round8 Studio’s...
Welcome back to another glorious midpoint of the week that's filled with mad savings. Top of the list has got to be that PC Warner Bros. bundle because holy fiscally responsible decisions, Batman, that's a lot for a little. I'm also liking Harvey's take on Animal Crossing's official RRP. Personally, I'm just hoping for Amazon to match, so I can score some sweet free delivery action with Prime. In historical news, today marks two very important debuts. Firstly, it's been 36 years since some random, cave-dwelling coot handed us a sword because it was "dangerous to go alone." It's also been 16 years since the mythically steep system requirements of a Crytek FPS tested the mettle of PCs everywhere. This Day in Gaming Aussie birthdays...
