FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki has said the studio may consider including “beginning to end, total co-op” in future games. Elden Ring’s co-op summoning system can be a lifesaver for tarnished in need of a little help to take down a troublesome boss. However, its design leaves some pretty significant barriers to players hoping to enjoy a sustained co-op experience. For example, players are booted back to their own world rune arc in hand the moment the area boss is defeated, or as soon as they unceremoniously bite the dust. Summoning also prevents you from riding atop your trusty steed Torrent, which can make Elden Ring’s expansive open world seem a little too expansive on occasion. To get around these limitations, Elden...
The next Lords of the Fallen game launches in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, publisher CI Games has announced. The Polish company confirmed it had signed a publishing deal with Fortnite maker Epic Games for the PC version of the game, which does not yet have an official title. However, the rights to the game and the series, as well as publishing rights on all non-PC platforms, remains with CI Games. Lords of the Fallen was developed by Hexworks for release in 2023 and went on to sell 1.3 million copies as of the end of the year, a result Marek Tyminski, CEO of CI Games, recently called “solid.” “From its release to December 31 last year, Lords of the Fallen's sales totaled approximately 1.3 million units,”...
Bethesda has insisted it’s committed to supporting Starfield, and confirmed at least one other story expansion will release following this year’s Shattered Space. In an interview with YouTube channel MrMattyPlays, Bethesda Game Studios’ Todd Howard said the developer is aiming to release an annual story expansion for “hopefully a very long time.” Sci-fi RPG Starfield launched in September 2023 as Bethesda’s first brand new intellectual property in years, and its first mainline single-player game since Microsoft bought parent company ZeniMax Media in March 2021. IGN’s Starfield review returned a 7/10. We said: “Starfield has a lot of forces working against it, but eventually the allure of its expansive roleplaying quests and...
When BioWare announced that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf had been renamed Dragon Age: The Veilguard, general manager Gary McKay explained the decision was rooted in a wish to reflect the game’s “really deep and compelling group of companions.” It's a logical pivot considering the immense cultural effect Baldur’s Gate 3’s collection of misfit heroes triggered last year. BioWare no doubt hopes that at least one of the Veilguard will resonate at a scale akin to Asterion, Karlach, or Shadowheart. A camp of companions is about as far as the similarities with Baldur’s Gate 3 goes though, if the recently showcased 20 minutes of gameplay is to go by. Dragon Age: The Veilguard appears to be a cinematic fantasy adventure with linear momentum, action...
When a game is trying as hard to terrify and unsettle me as Still Wakes the Deep is, and instead I mostly feel kind of bored a lot of the time, I start to question whether this type of experience simply doesn't tingle my spine anymore. But digging deeper, there are a lot of specific reasons this feels like a lackluster attempt at that formula. It has almost all of the hallmarks of a creepy, Amnesia-style, first-person horror game with a powerless protagonist – the very same sort I've been playing and enjoying for almost 15 years now. But despite great dialogue, superb voice-acting, and a memorable setting, irritating level design and sometimes silly scenarios meant this dreary tale never fully got its Lovecraftian tendrils into me...
Elden Ring creator and FromSoftware boss Hidetaka Miyazaki appears to have very high standards, saying the beloved role-playing game isn't quite the "ideal fantasy RPG" despite its universal acclaim. Speaking to PC Gamer, Miyazaki said that Elden Ring — dubbed a masterpiece by IGN and countless others — is just one step on his path towards his ideal game, with the likes of Demon's Souls, the Dark Souls trilogy, Bloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice all acting as predecessors too. "Back when doing interviews about Elden Ring, I think I mentioned that I'm still in the process of making my ideal fantasy RPG," Miyazaki said. "While Elden Ring is not quite it, it's pretty close. It's getting close." This likely comes as welcome news...
Remarkably, The Elder Scrolls 6 teaser trailer is six years old, an anniversary that made even Bethesda development chief Todd Howard pause for thought. Bethesda teased The Elder Scrolls 6 at E3 2018 with a brief announcement video, below, that gave little away about the studio’s plans. Six years later and fans are still in the dark about what to expect from the hotly anticipated sequel, which won’t release until 2028 at the earliest. Howard hasn't given much away since, and made typically vague comments in an interview with YouTube channel MrMattyPlays, but did reflect on the huge gap between The Elder Scrolls 6’s teaser and release. “Now, it's the sixth anniversary of us releasing the teaser for Elder Scroll 6 — might be today —...
Cyberpunk 2077 files allegedly stolen from developer CD Projekt Red in 2021 have appeared online and seemingly revealed scrapped missions set on the moon. As reported by Insider Gaming, images which surfaced online of concept art, blueprints, file repositories, and map data appear to hint at what could be a cancelled expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 that would have taken players well beyond Night City. CD Projekt Red declined to comment on the alleged leaks when contacted by IGN. The moon is an established hub in Cyberpunk 2077 lore and can be visited fairly simply for those with enough money. It features as a significant plot point in the Cyberpunk Edgerunners animated series but is only touched on briefly in the game, though off-planet...
Alone in the Dark developer Pieces Interactive has been shut down by the now infamous Embracer Group after the game failed to meet expectations. A statement on the developer's website lists a 2007 to 2024 lifespan for Pieces Interactive alongside the message "thanks for playing with us." It also offers a short history of the studio before a dedicated paragraph comments on its acquisition by Embracer Group, which in the last year has also shut down developers Free Radical Design, Onoma, and Volition Games amid lay-offs affecting more than 1,000 employees. "In 2017, Pieces Interactive were acquired by Embracer Group after working with the expansion for Titan Quest, Titan Quest: Ragnarök and third expansion for Titan Quest, Titan Quest...
Elden Ring developer FromSoftware has asked fans to be mindful of Shadow of the Erdtree spoilers after details of the expansion leaked online. In a post on X/Twitter, FromSoftware asked fans not to spoil elements of the highly anticipated downloadable content, which launches June 21, 2024, after some with early access leaked the entire final boss fight and more. "With the release of the expansion of Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree, please be mindful of spoilers for those who want to tread into the Realm of Shadow with nothing but their determination and their minds unclouded," the post said. "Thank you for your cooperation." We won't reveal any details of the leaked content here, though as FromSoftware said, those looking forward...
The list of impressive looking soulslike games on the horizon is long, with games like Phantom Blade Zero, Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, and Wuchong: Fallen Feathers all having solid showings this summer event season. But there’s always been something extra special about Black Myth: Wukong. It’s stunningly gorgeous, the animations are incredibly fluid, it’s steeped in rich Chinese culture, and there’s just something immensely satisfying about playing as a Monkey King and beating up all sorts of mythical creatures with a giant extendable staff. While this isn’t the first time IGN has gone hands-on with the game, it is my own personal first time with it – and after two hours of playtime with the opening chapter, I somehow walked away even...

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is finally here! Branded by developer ATLUS as the “definitive” version of the game, it promises to expand on the original with iterated mechanics, new characters, and a new storyline that revolves around the Qadištu faction; which consists of demonic women who, depending on who you ask, are either evil or are wrongfully scorned by society. This game seems to be an expansion at all costs, though, as ATLUS is delisting the original Shin Megami Tensei V from the Nintendo eShop on June 13th. This has left many questioning ATLUS’s penchant for releasing enhanced versions of their games and if they’re always good enough to merit the soft erasure of the original version of the game. That’s why this article is...

Demons and angels locked in a post-apocalyptic, generation-spanning blood feud to the backing of a hard synth-metal soundtrack… but make it a tough-as-nails RPG – that’s the Shin Megami Tensei experience. I sang the praises of Shin Megami Tensei V back in 2021 because of the way it embodied the series’ ethos in modern form, and as per usual with developer Atlus, we now have a more definitive version a few years later in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. Although it doesn’t fundamentally change what already made the original great, its new separate storyline and quality of life improvements are reason enough to play (or revisit) this masterclass in turn-based combat and demonic atmosphere. The very first thing you do is choose whether...

Today’s Yacht Club Games Presents has come to an end, revealing Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope DX, a brand-new entry in the Shovel Knight series, and more. The nearly 30-minute showcase mostly gave fans a better look at how the retro game developer plans to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of its groundbreaking platformer. What that means for players, though, is that the future of its blue shovel-wielding hero is brighter than ever. That’s thanks to things like Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope DX, a beefed-up version of Yacht Club’s classic that it is referring to as the “definitive edition” of the experience. It promises 20 unique playable characters like Shield Knight, the Enchantress, and many of the members of The Order of No...
Madden NFL 25's cover athlete was revealed earlier this week, and today, EA has provided new details on what fans can expect from this year's Madden, including Boom Tech, this year's one big feature. In a press release, EA revealed that Boom Tech is a new "dynamic physics-based" tackling system and the newest iteration of Maddens FieldSense technology that "unlocks the re-engineered Hit Stick" and should provide better ball carrier control. With Christian McCaffrey as this year's cover athlete, the description of Boom Tech aligns with EA's theme of trying to pick cover athletes that best fit the new editions coming to Madden in a given year. Additional upgrades to FieldSense, thanks to Boom Tech, are needed to "deliver increased...
Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) has announced that it has suspended more than 600 in-game accounts following widespread complaints of cheating. The developer revealed the move in a post on its Robert Space Industries website, saying that it has suspended accounts that participated in exploitative behavior following an investigation. Affected players are said to have manipulated Star Citizen’s systems to duplicate items and gain more of its in-game currency, Alpha United Earth Credits (aUEC). All aUEC gained using these methods have been removed from the ecosystem. CIG thanks Star Citizen players for raising awareness about these issues, explaining that in-game exploits like the ones being squashed now “undermine the...
I’ve had the opportunity to play Path of Exile 2 several times throughout its development cycle, and there’s one thought I had after my latest session: this action-RPG keeps getting better every time I play it. The first session I had the opportunity to join was a demo at Gamescom 2023. Grinding Gear’s Jonathan Rogers took me through the Warrior and Druid class, and I also had the opportunity to wait in line and try out the Monk for the first time. As expected, I got my butt kicked. But that’s par for the course. In early 2024 I had the chance to try out the Ranger, whose incredibly fun gameplay loop has you shooting lightning arrows and propagating lightning storms of death across the screen. And more recently I got to try out the...
EA has shared more details about Madden NFL 25, including new additions coming to Franchise Mode, including rebuilding the NFL Draft and returning Team Builder. EA revealed that Franchise Mode is being "recharged" in a multitude of ways. Most notably, it brings back Team Builder in this particular mode. Introduced originally in Madden NFL 2002, Team Builder allows players to build a team they want. You can create every player on your roster and pick the team colors, uniforms, and stadium. EA also confirmed that customization for custom teams, like College Football 25, will be done through a website. Team Builder in Madden NFL 25 will also allow players to upload their own logos for their custom team, share their team with other...
We are our choices. It may be a cliche, but it’s true. Our choices define us: where we go, what we do, who we meet, how we handle problems, and why we are, ultimately, who we are. Imagine all the key decisions of your life laid out before you. How many would have to change to turn you into a different person? Two? Three? Or just one, in the right place, at the right time? What choice would that be for you? And who would you have become if you’d chosen differently? Those are the questions at the core of The Alters, a narrative survival game from 11 bit Studios, the team behind This War of Mine. In The Alters, you take on the role of Jan Dolski, a simple worker on a mining mission gone horribly wrong. Stranded and alone on a strange...

Scalpers can get in the bin, as Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree Collector's Edition is back in stock and on sale right now at trusted UK retailer The Game Collection. These are still incredibly popular, meaning this is extremely time-sensitive as they could sell out. but we couldn't just sit by and not shout about it. The Collector's Edition is down to £203.96 at the moment for PS5 and Xbox using code DAYLIGHT15. This is the best preorder deal in the UK right now, and over £26 off the list price of £229.99. This promo code is applicable across the whole of eBay, but preorders for one of the most anticipated DLC expansions of all time certainly caught our eye, especially as it's for the Collector's Edition. But, the DAYLIGHT15 code...
Warning: This article contains spoilers for Metal Gear Solid 3 and Metal Gear Solid 4. It’s been a long time coming but Metal Gear fans finally have something concrete to look forward to. Although series creator Hideo Kojima has moved on to other projects, his long-beloved stealth action franchise is making a grand return to the forefront of gaming with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. Now that we have our first look at Delta’s gameplay from the new trailer shown at the Xbox Games Showcase, we’re even more excited to get our hands on it. But for now, we want to take a look back at the original Metal Gear Solid 3, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year on November 17th, 2004. Specifically, we’re going to talk about...
WIth over 50 party games split between developer Jackbox Games' 10 different Jackbox Party Packs, players have increasingly requested a more unified way to switch between their Jackbox games. If these games are in different packs, players often need to remember which pack a game is in, close their current pack, and launch the next one. Now, after years of player requests, Jackbox Games is finally developing a way to see all of its games in one place. Today in a post on its website, Jackbox Games announced the Jackbox Megapicker, a game library that lets players view, sort, and launch their games from different Party Packs in one location. "With over 50 games, more and more you are saying that it takes a lot of effort to switch...
Nostalgia is one of the most powerful, over-weaponized forces in the video game industry. But it also opens up avenues for cool takes on classic ideas. Hearkening back to PS2-era action platformers, Akimbot already seems like a great example of nostalgia done right. Full of homage to classics from that era like Ratchet and Clank, I had so much fun jumping, shooting, and air-dashing through an early version of Akimbot’s first level. As it turns out, action-platformers are French indie studio Evil Raptor’s bread and butter. 2021’s Pumpkin Jack was a cult hit among platforming fans when it hit back in 2020, and if my half-hour demo with Akimbot is any indication, it seems like it’s poised to scratch the same itch with a charming world...
