Square Enix is shadow dropping Triangle Strategy for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S today. The surprise launch finally brings the tactical RPG to other platforms following its original launch on Nintendo Switch back in early 2022. Better yet, the announcement arrives alongside a new launch trailer for the PS5 and Xbox versions of Triangle Strategy, with PC players now also able to pick up a copy on the Microsoft Store. PlayStation and Xbox players have waited years to see Triangle Strategy make the jump to their preferred platforms, so Square Enix is commemorating the moment with a limited-time offer. Those who purchase the game on either platform before September 4, 2025, can take advantage of a 30% launch discount. That...
Developer Squanch Games has announced a release date for High on Life 2 that will see its first-person shooter comedy sequel launch February 13, 2026. Updated plans for the sci-fi follow-up were announced in an Xbox Wire post that also includes new details about its cast, gameplay, and more. It’s an early 2026 release date that doubles as a small delay for High on Life 2, which was previously announced to come to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S and Game Pass before winter 2025 came to a close. The small shift comes with the news that Final Fantasy 16 and The Fantastic Four: First Steps actor Ralph Ineson has officially joined the cast. Players who pick up High on Life 2 in February will hear him as Sheath, a new character...
Infinity Nikki is getting some sort of crossover collaboration with Stardew Valley beginning September 1, and though we really have no idea what all it involves, there are already some surprisingly mixed reactions coming from the community in the wake of the announcement. But it's not Stardew Valley's fault - it's the result of five months of increasing community frustration directed at Infinity Nikki's developer, Infold. This comes from a video posted to the official Infinity Nikki Twitter/X account, that shows Stardew Valley's Junimos entering the world of Infinity Nikki. "Cozy surprises await you, and adventure is in the air," reads the post. "Prepare your senses for a harvest of wonders." While it's fairly likely this means new...

Open-world action RPG The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin released a new trailer as part of gamescom’s Opening Night Live on Tuesday and also announced that sign-ups are open now for an upcoming closed beta test. Presented by Netmarble, The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin tells an original story set in Britannia, the same world as the globally popular The Seven Deadly Sins anime and manga series. The art style is also inspired by those series, and the game’s multiverse narrative will transcend timelines and dimensions to combine brand-new characters with established heroes from throughout the series. The latest trailer continues a trend of releasing new footage at major game shows this year. Two new trailers released back-to-back at Summer Game...
The thunder of bolters repelling an Ork incursion and the distinctive red and white ceramite armor of the Blood Ravens bring me right back to the moment the trailer for the original Dawn of War made me an instant Warhammer 40K fan more than 20 years ago. And it's that first game in the series that serves as the jumping off point for the upcoming Dawn of War 4. A lot has changed, but a lot remains the same, bringing bigger battles and snazzier graphics to a classic take-and-hold RTS that is equal parts spectacle and tactics. I played through the 1-2 hour demo a few times and it felt like Dark Crusade never left. The last we heard of this franchise was in 2018 when Relic ended support for the divisive Dawn of War 3, and this next chapter...
Indie climbing hit Peak has officially sold 10 million copies according to Aliena Analytics analyst Rhys Elliott and Gamescom Opening Night Live host Geoff Keighley. Elliott first reported the sales figure on Monday in his newsletter, saying it had sold 1.7 million copies last week and was expected to pass 10 million at some point on Tuesday. Keighley then confirmed the 10 million figure onstage at Opening Night Live. It's the second indie game released in 2025 to pass this milestone, following R.E.P.O., which has sold 16.8 million. Peak has seen significant success on Steam since its launch in June, and has been consistently listed as one of the most-played games on the platform. At the time this piece was written, it was sitting at...
Have you played the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy 14? With an expanded free trial which you can play through the entirety of A Realm Reborn and the award-winning Heavensward AND Stormblood expansions now up to level 70 for free with no restrictions on playtime? What's that, you haven't? You only have Nintendo platforms and nothing else? Well, never fear, because Final Fantasy 14 producer Naoki 'Yoshi-P' Yoshida is thinking of you. In an interview with VGC at Gamescom this week, Yoshi-P answered some questions about the potential to bring FF14 to Nintendo Switch 2, and the news seems promising. “For me, it’s just my aim to provide Final Fantasy 14 and 16 to as many players as possible, and I hope that as many players as...
Deep Silver and Warhorse Studios showed up for gamescom Opening Night Live 2025 to show off a first-look trailer for the next Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 story DLC, Legacy of the Forge, as well as a release date of September 9, 2025. The new footage arrived as one of many trailers that premiered throughout the two-hour show, updating players on the next chapter in Henry’s journey. It’s a 30-second video that mostly serves to whet the appetite for players ahead of its September release date for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S. “Returning to Kuttenberg, Henry puts his blacksmithing skills to the test to acquire and repair a legendary burnt-down forge, where his father, Martin, spent his youth as an apprentice,” an official...
My 14-year-old daughter and I have played through all of Hazelight’s games in recent months. We thoroughly enjoyed It Takes Two, had a blast with A Way Out, and were absolutely smitten with Split Fiction. I’m just so thrilled that Hazelight has almost single-handedly turned the “mandatory-two-player co-op” subgenre into a viable segment of the gaming market. I previewed Out of Words last month, and that one is definitely going to be on my daughter and I’s must-play list for next year. But in the meantime – in less than a month from now, in fact – we’ve got LEGO Voyagers to look forward to. As soon as I saw the reveal trailer for it back in June, I was instantly drawn to it. And now that my daughter and I have played the first 30 minutes...
I finally played Hollow Knight: Silksong. No, I don’t mean to brag, but instead find myself having to type it out just to convince my eyes that it actually happened. Yes, it may have only been for around 20 minutes, but the long-awaited sequel shows little sign of disappointing. During my demo at gamescom 2025, I was faced with a choice of two areas to play in: Moss Grotto or Deep Docks. Of course, I was going to try both, but first went for Moss Grotto — based on nothing apart from green being my favourite colour — which turned out to be the right decision. This sunlit grassy zone appears to be the very beginning of Silksong, as I fell into it following a brief cutscene in which a caged Hornet (the playable princess-protector...
The Witcher series really did well to capture that sense of exploring a brutal fantasy world as a protagonist who knew how to get their hands dirty. But in the upcoming dark fantasy RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker, a new game from a team of former creatives behind The Witcher 3, it leans further into a morally ambiguous setting as you decide which path its protagonist will take – one that maintains his human form and ideals, or one that embraces newfound powers as a half-vampire. Just ahead of Gamescom 2025, we got an extended walkthrough of The Blood of Dawnwalker from the devs at Rebel Wolves that put a spotlight on the parallel playstyles of human and vampire action-RPG gameplay. So far, The Blood of Dawnwalker is putting forth some...
After a period of time, video game genres tend to calcify. They establish firm rulesets that are difficult to break. This leads to familiarity and, eventually, repetition. How many third-person shooters have you played that all kind of felt the same? Capcom is trying to break the rules with Pragmata, a sci-fi shooter in which you have to hack every enemy before you can do any damage to them. It’s a smart idea – one we first got to grips with at this year’s Summer Game Fest, and have now had a chance to explore further at gamescom 2025. But while it produces a combat experience quite different to anything I’ve played before, I’m left wondering if that same level of ingenuity will be felt in Pragmata’s exploration and level design, too...
It’s safe to say we’re currently living through a golden age for swordplay games. Sekiro and Ghost of Tsushima lead a pack of accomplished duelers where every strike, lunge, and parry feels supremely satisfying. Hoping to find a place among them is Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Capcom’s long-awaited return to a series slumbering since the PS2 days. And, based on a small sample I’ve been able to play at gamescom 2025, I’d say its chances are looking very good indeed. Set in a dark fantasy reimagining of Kyoto during the Edo period of Japan, Onimusha: Way of the Sword has you take up the sharpened blades of Miyamoto Musashi, a swordsman sporting both the face of the late legendary actor Toshiro Mifune and a talking gauntlet that eats the...
As a general rule, any first-person game where you’re walking around derelict areas and pointing a camera at things is probably going to be super creepy, and upcoming asymmetrical shooter Project Spectrum certainly seems like it will reinforce this tried-and-true guideline. The brief eight-minute hands-off demo of this suspenseful shooter left me with as many questions as I got answers, with lots left unexplained about how exactly this weird idea will work, but it also showed signs of a fairly new take on the asymmetrical multiplayer genre that’s become one of my favorite pastimes in recent years. Taking a page out of fellow supernaturally inclined monster slaying game Hunt: Showdown 1896, you and your friends explore the map and take...
Developer Positive Concept Games and game management platform indie.io announced at gamescom Wednesday that 16-bit action RPG Shrine’s Legacy will release October 7 on Steam. If you’re not already familiar with Shrine’s Legacy, it’s inspired by classic RPGs of the SNES era and blends that retro look with more modern real-time combat and puzzle solving. The story takes place in a land called Ardemia, a magical world threatened by a returning evil. It can only be saved by uniting the Sword of the Shrine and the eight elements of magic scattered across the world. You play as two young heroes, Rio and Reima. Rio is heir to the Sword and a descendant of the last hero to banish the ancient evil, while Reima is a mage who’s been desperately...
I’ve been at this game game long enough to know when a sale is phoned in versus when it’s the real deal on...er, deals. This week is firmly in the latter category. The line-up spans inventive indies, glossy blockbusters, and a few experimental oddballs that prove risk-taking still has a place in game development. Join me as I single out the very best to buy. Contents Retro Nintendo Xbox PlayStation PC LEGO This Day in Gaming 🎂 In retro news, I’m celebrating the 22nd birthday of Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow, an OG Xbox classic. For the few of us with Internet decent enough to use Xbox Live 3.0, this terrorist hunting sequel/glorified expansion was boss. The offline offerings were ok, too, thanks to tense split-screen co-op/solo...
Black Myth: Wukong developer GameScience has revealed a sequel, Black Myth: Zhong Kui, at Opening Night Live 2025. On-stage at gamescom, host Geoff Keighley described Zhong Kui as "the ghost-catching god who wanders between hell and earth." Despite Zhong Kui's announcement, Keighley insisted Black Myth: Wukong won't end here, suggesting DLC is still on the way. "Set against the backdrop of the classic Chinese folktale 'Zhong Kui Banishing Evil,' Black Myth: Zhong Kui is a single-player action role-playing game rooted in ancient Chinese fantasy," GameScience said. "The game will deliver distinctive experiences and gameplay features that push our limits, while also bringing fresh ideas and necessary changes to address past flaws and...
It was almost surreal awakening as an ancient monster in Vampire: the Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 and getting my first taste of blood. Phyre the Nomad, a semi-customizable character with a fixed backstory, has been asleep for 100 years when she wakes up in modern Seattle – and I feel like I've been thinking about this game almost as long. From its announcement in 2019 through multiple delays, development woes, a sort-of soft cancellation, and an almost complete reboot under The Chinese Room, finally playing it allowed me to start to answer my big question: was it worth waking up from an eternal slumber for? So far, I'm cautiously optimistic. First things first: The Chinese Room is not the studio I would have drafted to make a sequel to...
Capcom and Square Enix took the stage at gamescom Opening Night Live 2025 to show off a new collaboration that will see Final Fantasy 14 and Monster Hunter Wilds collide. Monster Hunter Wilds Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and Final Fantasy 14 Online Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida (a.k.a. Yoshi-P) showed up to talk about how two of gaming’s biggest publishers are working to bring some of their biggest franchises together. Two new trailers (below) revealed only a taste of what to expect, including Monster Hunter-themed content for Final Fantasy 14 and Final Fantasy-themed content for Monster Hunter Wilds. Monster Hunter Wilds players can expect the new content to arrive in late September. Final Fantasy 14 players, meanwhile, can expect...
At Gamescom Opening Night Live, we just got a look at the opening cinematic for the next World of Warcraft expansion: Midnight. And with it, we got a taste of what to expect at the focal point of the expansion's start: Quel'Thalas, and the Blood Elf city of Silvermoon. If you're a WoW veteran, you probably know Quel'Thalas. It was introduced to World of Warcraft in the first expansion, The Burning Crusade, alongside the introduction of the Blood Elves. Currently in the game, in consists of Silvermoon City and the surrounding Eversong Woods, as well as the northern Isle of Quel'Danas and The Ghostlands to the south. Though it's largely populated by Blood Elves, it's also home to Zul'Aman, the home of the Amani Trolls. As it stands now...

More than two decades after the original Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, tonight's Gamescom Opening Night Live broadcast has finally given us a release date for its much-delayed sequel. Silent Hill f made an appearance at Gamescom Opening Night Live this evening with a brand new trailer, and our first listen at the English actor portraying main character Hinako, Suzie Yeung. The new trailer opens with Hinako waking up in a dark room, seemingly confused. As she wanders, it seems she's in some kind of shrine, and ends up following a figure with a blue lamp deeper in. She's then attacked by those freaky dolls we've seen in past trailers, and we see shots of a number of other unsettling rooms in the shrine. The trailer cuts to another scene at an old house on a rainy day, which Hinako seems to recognize as her own. We see her with her clothes torn and bloody, and a creepy woman's voice giving instructions to kill...
Ron Gilbert, the industry luminary behind multiple Monkey Island games and Thimbleweed Park, is working on anothe rproject, and it's a little different from his usual fare. It's called Death by Scrolling, and it's a roguelike RPG where you're pursued through Purgatory by a constantly-scrolling screen, and Death herself. Shown off for the first time today at Gamescom: Opening Night Live, Death by Scrolling features a top-down perspective and a Zelda-like combat system. But unlike Zelda's slower pace, in Death by Scrolling, you're constantly running upward, chased by the bottom of the screen. You can choose between several different playable characters with different perks, and then run up while fighting off enemies and collecting gold...
The brilliant Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be Microsoft's first game designed for Switch 2, and it'll launch for Nintendo's new console next year. A trailer for the game's upcoming DLC, The Order of Giants, aired tonight during Gamescom Opening Night Live and confirmed the game's Switch 2 launch right at the end, with a vague 2026 release window. As is perhaps to be expected, the game does not appear to be launching on Switch 1. As we already knew, The Order of Giants itself will arrive before then on September 4 for existing platforms. The add-on expands the game's Rome location and sees Indy searching for the helmet of the Nameless Crusader while dodging more larger-than-life foes. "One of the most satisfying parts of...
CI Games has detailed what to expect from Lords of the Fallen 2 during Gamescom's Opening Night Live, and said its sequel has been shaped by community feedback after an initially rocky reception at launch for the original. Designed as a fully standalone sequel from 2023's Lords of the Fallen, this Unreal Engine 5-powered follow-up offers two parallel worlds to explore, including an expanded Umbral realm, and shared campaign progression in online co-op. "After selling over 2 million units and welcoming over 5.5 million Lampbearers into Lords of the Fallen, it’s clear our comeback was community-powered," said CI Games boss Marek Tyminski. "With Lords of the Fallen 2, we’re going further. In 2024 we proudly announced our deep commitment...
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 is finally a reality after an announcement at Opening Night Live 2025. We have a debut trailer, snippets of gameplay, a new faction making its series debut, and a surprise developer. The much-loved real-time strategy series began life in 2004 with Relic Entertainment’s Dawn of War, and the expectation was that if a fourth game was ever going to be made, it would be Relic who would do it. Indeed, Relic was behind the recently released Dawn of War Definitive Edition, which breathed new life into the franchise. However, Dawn of War 4 is in development at King Art Games, the studio behind alternate reality 1920s RTS Iron Harvest, and is published by Deep Silver (Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Dead Island 2)...
FromSoftware’s Sekiro is back from the dead — but rather than getting a sequel, it’s getting an anime adaptation via Crunchyroll in 2026. Activision published Sekiro in 2019 to critical and commercial acclaim. It went on to sell an impressive 10 million copies, but so far no sequel has materialised. FromSoftware of course subsequently released Elden Ring, which was even more commercially successful. The announcement of Sekiro: No Defeat came via Kadokawa, Qzil.la, and ARCH, who said the new anime “channels the precision and spirit of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice into every frame.” It’s a fully hand-drawn adaptation to be streamed exclusively on Crunchyroll worldwide excluding Japan, China, Korea, Russia, and Belarus. Here’s the...
