The fear that Stranger Things might tank its reputation with a dodgy finale was a concern for the show's cast, star Finn Wolfhard has admitted, after seeing Game of Thrones' final season brutally "torn to shreds." Speaking to Time, Wolfhard mentioned the widespread reaction to Game of Thrones' final episodes as an example of how a long-running big-budget TV series can build up enormous expectations for its hotly anticipated climax — then spark enormous backlash after failing to deliver. Negative reaction to Game of Thrones' final season still dominates discussion around the show, following widespread criticism of its plot, pacing and sudden character developments. Many fans blamed the uneven final season on the series' creators...
The developers of Battlefield 6 have reversed course on controversial changes to Conquest mode after a backlash from players. Battlefield Studios had reduced ticket sizes for the large-scale Conquest multiplayer game mode to ensure matches “finish at a more natural pace.” To achieve this, Battlefield Studios reduced ticket sizes – which essentially represent each team's available reinforcements – from 1,000 tickets to a unique ticket goal for each map. But players were unconvinced that the reduced ticket requirements would make Battlefield 6 a better experience, and called for a return to 1,000-ticket matches and longer games. Now, Battlefield 6 has done just that. “We've heard your feedback about the recent reduction of Conquest...
Battlefield 6 developer Battlefield Studios has addressed XP and progression complaints by making a number of key changes to the game. In an update to players, the developer said it was aware of the concerns on progression and “community experiences” that have bubbled up in the week since Battlefield 6’s explosive launch. “We’ve heard your feedback around the pace of progression, especially how long it can take to unlock hardware such as gadgets, and weapon attachments,” Battlefield Studios said. “We know progression is an important part of feeling rewarded for your time on the battlefield. As initial steps, we are working on the following changes to progression and how it feels as you play: The XP gained from match completion and...
A little over a year since Konami relaunched its long-dead Silent Hill horror series with the superb Silent Hill 2 Remake, the publisher has provided a sales update, confirming that it's now up to 2.5 million worldwide. That's up from the 1 million copies Silent Hill remake sold in less than a week from launch. The updated milestone now means the 26-year-old series itself has surpassed 10 million units shipped, despite lying dormant for over a decade. As reported by Gematsu, the news came via a Konami News video report which primarily discussed its most recent release, Silent Hill f, which similarly debuted to a positive reception last month. At the beginning of the report, a text pop up says: "Silent Hill series has shipped over 10...
Former Assassin's Creed boss Marc-Alexis Côté has made clear that his shock exit from Ubisoft was not his decision. In a post on LinkedIn, Côté said he bore "no resentment," but wanted to make clear to former colleagues and fans that he had not quit the Assassin's Creed franchise after 15 years of his own free will. Côté's departure, announced earlier this week, came as a surprise following the successful launch of Assassin's Creed Shadows, one of a list of games Côté previously helped announce as part of a big new era for the franchise. On Tuesday this week, Ubisoft staff were told Côté was leaving via an internal email, seen by IGN, that gave little explanation for his departure. Instead, it stated that Vantage Studios, the new...
Marvel Rivals' first ever PvE mode drops on October 23, 2025, and it's based on the Marvel Zombies Disney+ TV show. "The city's burning, the infected are rising — and it's up to you to hold the line," the team teased. "Get a sneak peek now, and stay tuned for the official trailer coming soon!" In the video, below, Marvel Studios' head of streaming, television, and animation Brad Winderbaum sat down with Marvel Games' executive producer Danny Koo to explain that Marvel Rivals is teaming up with Marvel Animation "to bring you our first-ever PvE mode: Zombie Mode." In this Marvel Zombies-inspired mode, you'll get to play as Thor, Blade, Magik, Jeff, and the Punisher, taking on "endless waves of zombies." You'll have to survive the...
As players continue to deploy into Battlefield 6 multiplayer to try out its many maps, modes, and guns, they are finding a new enemy to fight: the sun. The millions of players who have checked out EA and Battlefield Studios’ latest large-scale FPS in its first week since launch have been hit by lights so bright they feel like they are being “flash-banged." It’s an issue affecting every class from Engineers to Recon, especially when exiting a building or, even worse, aiming down sights (ADS) while looking outside from the inside of a structure. “It's my main issue right now,” one Reddit user commented. “It actually gives me a headache. Footage of the issues plaguing Battlefield 6 players is hard to ignore, and we here at IGN have...
In an impassioned end to his keynote address on the opening day of Gamescom Asia x Thailand Game Show in Bangkok, Dead Space creator and industry veteran Glen Schofield has declared that the games industry is in dire need of fixing, and he believes he knows just how to go about it. “We need to fix the gaming industry right now,” said Schofield to a room of games industry professionals. “It's broken. It's beaten, it's battered, our developers are battered, they've been taking it on the chin for the last couple of years. We need to bring it back to what it was, right? Instead of all this negativity.” The first and arguably most controversial step to take in Schofield’s opinion, is for the games industry to widely embrace the use of...
A new offline mode for Ubisoft’s The Crew 2 is available now, which will allow owners to play the racing MMO offline if desired. The functionality – dubbed Hybrid Mode – has been explained in full on the publisher’s website. According to Ubisoft, Hybrid Mode gives us the “freedom to choose” how we want to play The Crew 2. That is, online mode (which is “the original experience as it was designed from the start, complete with multiplayer features, leaderboards, summits, and community sharing”) or offline mode (which the publisher describes as “a new experience”). “Whether you’re looking to preserve your progression for the future or simply enjoy the freedom of playing without a connection, Hybrid Mode ensures The Crew 2 remains...
Thank your own personal deity (possibly Raiden) it's Friday! I've gone and found some great bargains to round out your week and make your days off amazing. Whether you're hunting dragons, chasing ghosts, or assembling Hogwarts brick by brick, there's something worth snagging before these bargains vanish. Contents Retro Nintendo Xbox PlayStation PC PC Gear LEGO This Day in Gaming 🎂 In retro news, I'm celebrating the 22nd bday of Animal Crossing. This was it, campers, the OG concept that somehow pivoted from a failed 64DD dungeon-crawler RPG to a non-linear life sim where Nintendo warned me about the soul-crush of mortgages. Be that as it may, this game delighted almost everybody at the time (personally, I was sold by the fishing and...
The November 17 release date on Steam and Xbox PC for action RPG Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE is quickly approaching, and to celebrate, it will have a booth at TwitchCon in San Diego this week where players can try out a new demo and win special merch. Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE lets you step into the world of the massively popular Solo Leveling franchise, centering on protagonist Sung Jinwoo. It’s been built for PC and console (it’s scheduled to release on consoles in 2026) and includes the original story along with new adventures that are exclusive to the game. If you’re not familiar with the series, it takes place in a world where people with supernatural abilities known as Hunters must protect mankind from a never-ending...
Hollow Knight: Silksong post-launch support continues again today with patch version 1.0.28954, now available via the game's Steam public beta branch. This update's key feature is a "basic implementation" of a new Simplified Chinese translation, following an earlier backlash to the game's initial Chinese language support included at launch that led to a spate of negative Steam reviews, and a subsequent pledge by Silksong developer Team Cherry to improve the feature. After that blowback, it feels like Silksong developer Team Cherry is taking a cautious approach to the rollout of this fresh translation, with the studio now inviting further feedback from players using the Simplified Chinese translation to provide feedback on its clarity...
Bosses are woven into the fabric of Crimson Desert’s world. Judging by the many, many different ones we’ve now seen across multiple hands-on demos and videos, it appears that they’re frequently a showstopping spectacle that puts all of your abilities to the test. One such headline attraction is Golden Star, a monstrous mechanical dragon that we fought at the Seoul offices of developer Pearl Abyss in preparation for this month’s IGN First. If you watched our last gameplay video, you’ll have already seen this mighty boss in action, but here we’re going to take you behind the scenes to show you how it was designed, all the way from the sound of its beating wings to the method of its downfall. It’s safe to say that Crimson Desert’s...
Capturing the point is the backbone of many multiplayer games, and it’s often the most exciting moment of a match. It’s when Zarya drops a Graviton Surge that glues the entire enemy team together, ready to be obliterated by D.Va’s Self-Destruct. Or when your Super gauge finally fills and you’re able to unleash your Guardian’s point-clearing powers. Or when you unlock the perfect Killstreak that rains down a warehouse-worth of munitions, obliterating the opposition seconds before they can capture the zone. But no one does capture points like Battlefield. I recently played a Conquest match of Battlefield 6 that saw a point on Operation Firestorm gradually attacked and seized over a couple of minutes. At first it was just on-foot...
It's official: the release of Battlefield 6 has been a huge success, with an enormous 7 million copies sold over the game's first three days. Simply put, it's the franchise's best launch ever. A triumphant press release today from EA describes Battlefield 6's arrival as "record-shattering," "explosive" and — in the words of Battlefield boss Vince Zampella — "momentous." "We never take moments like this for granted, so I want to express our sincere gratitude to our global Battlefield Studios and passionate community that has helped get us to this point," Zampella said. "We appreciate you joining us for Battlefield 6's momentous launch. We have so much more to come in the weeks ahead." Some more stats from Battlefield 6's opening...
Could Dead Space return now EA has new owners? That's what Glen Schofield, the creator of the series, is hoping to make a reality. EA apparently isn’t interested in a new sequel, but the veteran game director is optimistic the sci-fi survival horror series isn’t permanently lost in space. After he delivered the opening keynote address at this week’s Gamescom Asia x Thailand Game Show in Bangkok, IGN caught up with Schofield and asked him if he thought there was any future for the Dead Space series. Schofield, who helped create the original Dead Space while working as the executive producer at EA Redwood Shores in 2008, didn’t play a part in the creation of Dead Space 2 in 2011 or Dead Space 3 in 2013, but he did go on to create a...
Quantic Dream, the developer of narrative-based single-player games such as Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and Detroit: Become Human, has announced its first ever multiplayer project. Spellcasters Chronicles will be a drastic departure for the studio, as a free-to-play competitive team-based 3v3 action strategy game set to launch in closed beta via Steam before the end of this year. Today, Quantic Dream boss David Cage confirmed the studio would still work on single-player projects, including its long-gestating Star Wars Eclipse. But the company will now operate as a multi-project studio, Cage said, with Spellcasters Chronicles its first attempt at a multiplayer title. An official reveal trailer lies just below: "Stepping into a new...
There are few games as revered as the original Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. This prequel entry in the stealth-action series transported players back to the height of Cold War espionage to prevent nuclear armageddon, and the PS2 game still holds up today through its themes and memorable boss fights. But, thankfully, there’s an easier way to play this adventure nowadays, too, since Konami released Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater back in August - a fun remake that brings everything up to an incredible new visual standard. And, just a couple of months on, the game’s Collector’s Edition has gotten a surprising discount at Amazon, with the stacked box coming in at $168.85 - down from the original $199.99 list price. Snake Eater’s...
Japanese video game developer Tomonobu Itagaki has died aged 58. Itagaki, best known for creating the Dead or Alive series and for reviving the Ninja Gaiden franchise in 2004, issued a post on Facebook hours before his death was confirmed. James Mielke, co-founder of Tigertron and BitSummit, took to social media to say: “RIP, senpai. You will always be a ninja.” “Today I lost someone who was truly like a brother to me,” Mielke said. “I am gutted to the core. I guess I can say so now that it's on his Facebook page. He even listed himself as my actual brother on Facebook. Anyone who knows me knows how close we were. RIP, senpai. You will always be a ninja.” Tekken chief Katsuhiro Harada posted on X / Twitter to express his...
2K has reaffirmed its support for 3rd-person action roguelike shooter Project Ethos, and has appointed the former executive producer for Apex Legends as the new studio head of developer 31st Union. This news was shared with employees today in a town hall followed by an internal memo, the latter of which was shared with IGN by 2K. The memo, written by 2K president David Ismailer, states that Ben Brinkman will take over as studio head of 31st Union beginning Monday, October 20. Brinkman will oversee Project Ethos development as the game is "reimagined" "with a renewed vision" after the game's 2024 playtests revealed a need for "a more distinct identity." Here's an excerpt from the memo: Brinkman joins 31st Union directly from EA...
Publisher PlaySide and developer Fumi Games showed up for IGN Fall Fan Fest 2025 to premiere a behind-the-scenes gameplay trailer for its black-and-white boomer shooter, Mouse: P.I. For Hire. The minute-long video takes a peek behind the curtain to show fans how Fumi utilized hand-drawn visuals to create a stylized FPS that looks like a mix of Cuphead, Doom, and old-school Disney cartoons. It comes with an updated look at Mouse: P.I. For Hire’s many locations, characters, and weapons that call back to shows of the ‘20s and ‘30s ahead of its yet-to-be-announced 2025 release date for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S. “It’s hand-crafted entertainment full of love, made for real people...
Dovetail Games, perhaps best known as the developer and publisher of the Train Sim World series of video games, announced a brand-new title at IGN Fan Fest 2025: Fall Edition– and it’s unlike anything they’ve released before. Metro Rivals: New York is “an innovative and genre-defying subway simcade game” set to release in early 2026. In the game, “players step into a near-future New York City where the subway system has been carved into 10 fiercely contested districts.” In addition to its single-player campaign, Metro Rivals: New York includes a PvP mode where up to four players can compete online or with friends. Drivers can “race to stop at designated platforms,” and are “scored on their ability to handle their train with...
Think The Invincibles meets The Office for superhero workplace comedy Dispatch, which dropped a new trailer at Fanfest today ahead of its impending release on PC and PS5. Created by some of the folks behind Telltale's Tales from the Borderlands and The Wolf Among Us, it's all about managing ex-supervillains turned superheroes, from behind a desk, navigating work relationships and quietly nursing plans for vengeance. The first two episodes of the anarchic adventure will be released on October 22, followed by two episodes a week until the final two on November 12. Until then, the latest trailer is a tantalizing blast of what's to come when the game releases a week from now, where your goal is to manage the logistics of which superheroes...
It's impossible to think about wrestling without thinking about John Cena, so it makes total sense that WWE 2K25 is marking his retirement later this year with a special tribute expansion pack, available today. As part of IGN Fall Fan Fest 2025, we got a look at some new gameplay featuring the fan favorite. The WWE 2K25 Farewell Tour Edition and Farewell Tour Edition Pack has new playable wrestlers and cosmetic items as part of its new content. WrestleMania 41 John Cena Dr. of Thuganomics John Cena Brock Lesnar Ron Cena Cena made his video game debut in 2003 with WWE WrestleMania XIX, and since then has made appearances in a further 38 of them both in WWE titles and games like Fortnite, as Peacemaker. Despite his retirement...
David Jaumandreu and I are supposed to be having our interview about his upcoming game, Denshattack, in a studio built out to look like a train. And we will, eventually, as you’ll see from the video above. But before we shoot the video version, we chat for my written piece in a very different setting: a dungeon. Jaumandreu is sitting on an inexplicable throne, like you’d find in a king’s palace, while I sit atop a different sort of throne: an actual toilet. There are fake shackles against the stone walls around us, and bars on the window. Behind us, through a sliding door, is the train studio we’ll be using in 30 minutes. I don’t have a clever way to transition Jaumandreu and my dungeon adventure into something about Denshattack!, or...
Developer Soft Rains and support studio Blackbird Interactive made an appearance at IGN Fall Fan Fest 2025 to announce an Ambrosia Sky Act 1 release date of November 10, 2025, for PC via Steam. The launch update for the studio’s upcoming stylized, power wash-inspired action FPS arrives alongside a new two-minute trailer. It’s a fresh look at the creative cleaning adventure, promising to release its first chapter in just a few weeks, with Act 2 and Act 3 set to follow in 2026. Ambrosia Sky sees players step into the zero-gravity shoes of a field scientist named Dalia. Her search for the key to human immortality takes her to Saturn’s outer rings, where she must face (and clean) hostile fungi and discover what happened to the people who...
The Outer Worlds 2 has a lot of guns, so developer Obsidian Entertainment stopped by IGN Fall Fan Fest 2025 to give fans a sneak peek at the arsenal they’ll have at their disposal when launch arrives later this month. Today’s new look at the studio’s sci-fi RPG follow-up arrives in the form of a minute-and-a-half-long trailer set to a catchy tune and new gameplay footage. The video’s tone rides a line between Borderlands and Fallout, as the player’s chosen Earth Directorate agent can be seen wielding everything from explosive rocket launchers and melee tools to Spacer’s Choice-branded rifles featuring their lunar mascot, Moon Man. Each of The Outer Worlds 2’s colorful guns has unique properties that will no doubt aid players on their...
Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes gives the classic science fiction series a tactical roguelike twist, putting you in charge of the fleet from combat to resources. At Fan Fest: Fall Edition 2025 we got a new look at the game. The space battles are frantic, but to survive the Cylons you'll also need to manage your resources carefully, commanding the crew of the fleet and be ever vigilant for any Cylon imposters that may have already infiltrated your population. Over time you'll earn access to new Gunstar fleets, squadrons, and crucial meta upgrades, which you'll need to survive the enemy. Scattered Hopes is due out sometime next year but one lucky writer at IGN got to try it out already, and called it "the first breath of new...
Dan Trachtenberg’s Predator: Badlands was inspired by a number of video games. The director has said 2005 PlayStation masterpiece Shadow of the Colossus inspired the relationship between the film’s young Predator, called Dek, and Elle Fanning’s character, a Weyland-Yutani synth he must carry around. Now, add World of Warcraft to the mix. You wouldn’t think Blizzard’s massively multiplayer fantasy online role-playing game would have much in common with a new Predator movie. But Trachtenberg, who already has Predator films Prey and Killer of Killers under his belt, told IGN at Fan Fest 2025: Fall Edition that he took inspiration from one class in particular when it came to Dek’s arsenal of weapons. “He starts out with a number of...
Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy has a new trailer fresh from IGN Fall Fan Fest 2025, and it confirms a Q4 2025 release window for the alpha. Owlcat Games’ promising follow-up to cRPG Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, lets players become an acolyte of the Inquisition, one of the Imperium’s heresy-hating enforcers. Here’s the official blurb: Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy is due out on PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store) and PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. There’s no release date yet, but thanks to the new trailer, we know we’ll be able to play the game before the end of this year. Meanwhile, also at Fan Fest, Owlcat announced a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Rogue Trader. It’s exciting times in the world of Warhammer 40,000 video...
