The Adeptus Mechanicus, Warhammer 40,000’s tech priest faction who worship the Machine God while obsessing over data, data, and more data, are now fully unveiled in real-time strategy game Dawn of War IV via a new gameplay trailer. The idea with the Adeptus Mechanicus is that they are a quick, ranged-focused faction who make use of advanced tech tricks to compete with stronger melee factions, such as the Orks. Based on the gameplay video, the AdMech look like one of the tricker Dawn of War IV factions to get to grips with, but perhaps one of the most rewarding. They have access to the Void Shield, a huge structure that takes up almost the whole screen, but lets you shield loads of buildings and units. Enemies can’t shoot through the shield, but they can move in and out of it. In a post on Steam, developer KING Art suggested it could be used to set up chokepoints. The AdMech also have the Noosphere Network technology, which links buildings, static weapons, and units together. The more structures you add to the Noosphere Network, the higher its level becomes, unlocking access to new, more powerful units, upgrades, and research. KING Art said players who face the AdMech must focus on dismantling the Noosphere Network if they want to succeed. And also of note is the AdMech’s Auger Vision, which KING Art said grants the faction a “heatmap” that “hints” at the enemy activity in a given area. While this sounds overpowered, the developer insisted it doesn’t do this perfectly, “but with just enough critical insight to help you eliminate a growing problem before it can spiral out of control.” Here’s the official blurb on the Adeptus Mechanicus: Dawn of War IV contains four factions at launch: Space Marines, Adeptus Mechanicus, Necrons, and Orks. But the hope is many more will be added as DLC. Dawn of War IV also has something no video game has ever had before: a playable Primarch. Expect a launch on PC at some point in 2026. [I]Wesley is Director, News at IGN. Find him on Twitter at @wyp100.
