Wreckfest 2’s seventh update since arriving in Steam Early Access back in March 2025 is a significant one, and adds a new track location, major upgrades to both vehicles physics and destruction systems, a new race mode, and introduces an in-depth tuning system. On top of all this, it also adds two-and-a-half new vehicles. Those vehicles are known in-game as the Stahlwagen (inspired by a turn-of-the-century Mercedes-Benz E-Class wagon), the Valken (inspired by the ’90s iteration of the classic Saab 900), and the ‘Half a Crusader’ (which is a novelty version of Wreckfest 2’s Chevrolet Cavalier-adjacent Crusader which has been chopped in half and is dragged around by its front wheels). The new US-based track location actually adds three tracks to the game, including an oval, a traditional race circuit, and a short sprint course. The oval sounds perfect to try out the new race mode, the Suicide Race, where half the field races clockwise and the other half races anti-clockwise. Experienced demolition gamers may remember an identically named mode in the eternally underrated Test Drive: Eve of Destruction (or Driven to Destruction, as it was known in PAL territories). Here’s hoping Wreckfest 2 developer Bugbear finds a few more nuggets of inspiration in that 2004 classic, which also featured trailer races, flagpole races, and plenty more. Update 7 also introduces major improvements to visual damage and collision physics, and adds a comprehensive tuning system to Wreckfest 2 for the first time, giving players the ability to adjust steering, suspension, brakes, gearing, differential settings, and more. These custom tuning configurations can be saved as presets for quick access, and they are fully available for use even within multiplayer lobbies. The full version of Wreckfest 2 will also be coming to consoles when it graduates out of Steam Early Access on PC, but no release date has been confirmed at this stage. Luke is a Senior Editor on the IGN reviews team. You can track him down on Bluesky @mrlukereilly to ask him things about stuff. Continue reading...
