Publisher Devolver Digital and developer Croteam have announced today that The Talos Principle 2 is launching at last on Nov. 2, nearly nine years after the initial release of its predecessor. The original The Talos Principle was a much-loved 3D puzzle adventure that stood out for its examination of philosophical questions including the nature of humans, AI, God, science, and progress. Mobile and VR versions were released over the years, as well as a Road to Gehenna DLC in 2015 that fleshes out the post-apocalyptic universe of the original game further. The Talos Principle 2 seems poised to pick up where the original left off and explore what lay in wait for the androids who passed the test of the first game, but apropos for the universe, the actual plot remains a bit mysterious. The trailer we saw today shows dozens of androids living in a futuristic city, as well as a number of familiar-looking lazer puzzles and new mechanics like gravity manipulation and mind transference. Croteam has promised it will take place in the "biggest, weirdest world Croteam has ever built." And yes, there will be plenty of philosophical brain teasers, gorgeous environments, and multiple endings. We gave the first The Talos Principle an 8.3/10 at launch, saying that it "makes you feel smart just by playing it, as the bulk of the puzzles hit that sweet spot between too easy and near-impossible." The Talos Principle 2 is planned to release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X and S. [I]Rebekah Valentine is a senior reporter for IGN. Got a story tip?
