However, no additional details were provided beyond the confirmation that a new State of Decay game was in development. In 2022, Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty revealed that State of Decay 3 will be powered by Unreal Engine 5 and that Gears of War developer The Coalition <a href="https://www.ign.com/articles/state-of-decay-3-is-being-made-in-unreal-engine-5-and-gears-of-war-developers-are-assisting" target="_blank">would assist </a>Undead Labs in development.</p><p></p><p>Before today's announcement, State of Decay 3's lack of development updates <a href="https://www.ign.com/articles/a-list-of-xbox-game-studios-games-that-failed-to-show-up-at-the-xbox-showcase" target="_blank">alarmed</a> both the series' fans and Xbox owners looking forward to the project. In 2022, <a href="https://kotaku.com/state-of-decay-3-xbox-series-x-s-sexism-microsoft-undea-1848728682" target="_blank">Kotaku reported</a> that the project was facing troubled development, with its sources claiming that the game had been in development since 2018 but was announced too early. Additionally, one of the factors cited as an issue in State of Decay 3's development was mismanagement.
