Those waiting for more details on Ubisoft's long-delayed Skull and Bones may have been hoping for more from the Ubisoft Summer Forward presentation today, but hey, we did get a good sea shanty. Oh, and there was also the news of a closed beta from Aug. 25-28, along with a short look at the game that showed off some pirate vibes. You can watch it below. The catchy sea shanty, performed by Home Free, did set a good tone, harkening back to the ones in Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, which is fitting because Skull and Bones was originally developed as an expansion for that game. But you'd be forgiven if you've forgotten that detail, because it really has been awhile since Skull and Bones was announced. It was first revealed alllll the way back in at Ubisoft's 2017 E3 presentation before being hit with a long list of delays - six of them, to be exact. The most recent delay came early this year, where Ubisoft also announced it had canceled three other unannounced games. In an investor call this February, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said the company's various delays and cancellations were a result of making too many games at once. So, let's hope seventh time's the charm? At the very least, today's presentation gave us a nice new tune to hit the seas to. For everything announced at today's Ubisoft Summer Forward - including Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora's release date and the first look at Star Wars: Outlaws gameplay - check out our roundup. Alex Stedman is a Senior News Editor with IGN, overseeing entertainment reporting. When she's not writing or editing, you can find her reading fantasy novels or playing Dungeons & Dragons.
