Village’s success was in part fueled by the breakout popularity of character <a href="https://www.ign.com/articles/resident-evil-village-the-evolution-of-lady-dimitrescu-and-her-daughters-ign-first" target="_blank">Lady Dimitrescu</a>, who Capcom leaned into for marketing. IGN’s <a href="https://www.ign.com/articles/resident-evil-village-review" target="_blank">Resident Evil Village review</a> returned an 8/10. We said: “Resident Evil Village is a genuinely engrossing and increasingly combat-heavy continuation of the Ethan Winters story.”</p><p></p><p></p><p>Sales were boosted by the release of Resident Evil Village Gold Edition, which includes the main game and additional story content, and expanded support for devices such as iPhone 15 Pro, Capcom said. Village sells approximately two million copies each year even now, helping it to become the fastest to 10 million in the series.</p><p></p><p>Village is the third best-selling Resident Evil game of all time, behind only the <a href="https://www.ign.com/games/resident-evil-2" target="_blank">Resident Evil 2 remake</a> (13.90 million) and <a href="https://www.ign.com/games/resident-evil-7-biohazard" target="_blank">Resident Evil 7 biohazard</a> (13.30 million). Total Resident Evil franchise sales are now 157 million units.</p><p></p><p>Thoughts have now turned to what’s next in the Resident Evil franchise. IGN understands <a href="https://www.ign.com/articles/resident-evil-zero-and-code-veronica-remakes-reportedly-in-the-works-at-capcom" target="_blank">recent reports of Zero and Code Veronica remakes being in development are accurate</a>.
