Mortal Kombat 1 now has its first DLC character, Omni-Man from the Invincible series, and players have already discovered he’s equal parts broken and hilarious. It’s early days of course, but already the community has declared Omni-Man an extremely powerful character. So he should be, right? It’s Omni-Man after all. He’s meant to be one of the most powerful beings around! But in a fighting game you want a decent balance across the roster of playable characters, and Omni-Man is perhaps a little overpowered for his own good. A lot of his damage potential comes from using incredible speed to punish his opponent, even from a projectile, and his ability to dodge attacks. The timing can be tight, but in the right hands Omni-Man is clearly a beast. He’s particularly devastating with air combos, too, as Omni-Man can dash behind his opponent in the air multiple times to keep combos going. Still, that’s not all that seems broken about Omni-Man. He actually seems properly broken in parts. Competitive Mortal Kombat player Murko posted on X/Twitter to show that when Omni-Man does his air backdash at fullscreen., his opponent inexplicably moves forward. That’s definitely not supposed to happen, and with any luck NetherRealm will patch it out sooner rather than later. There’s more. Fellow Mortal Kombat pro F0xy Grampa posted a clip showing an Omni-Man mirror match in which both players chestbump each other to death. Others are getting in on the Omni-Man chestbump action, too. But what’s getting even more attention is Omni-Man’s hilarious trash talk before a match. His devastating putdowns eviscerate everyone from Baraka to Mileena. Not even vampire Nitara, voiced by Megan Fox, escapes Onni-Man's biting insults. My favourite, though, is Omni-Man's utter disdain for poor old Rain, who he laughs at for threatening him with water. It helps that NetherRealm had JK Simmons reprise his role as Omni-Man from the Amazon Prime show. You can really tell Simmons had fun sending all the puny realmers who dare face him into the pit. The tweet clip below, from user Plathanos, offers a fun roundup of Omni-Man’s various quips. While Omni-Man appears to be going down well with players, other aspects of Mortal Kombat 1 have caused controversy, chief among them the sale of Fatalities for real-world money.
