Marvel Star Simu Liu Says He's Working to Get Sleeping Dogs a Film Adaptation

"Working with the rights holders to bring Sleeping Dogs to the big screen," he said.</p><p></p><p><a href="https://www.ign.com/articles/2017/03/03/donnie-yen-to-star-in-sleeping-dogs-video-game-adaptation" target="_blank">The adaptation was announced in 2017</a> with Donnie Yen set to star, but <a href="https://www.ign.com/articles/2018/02/05/sleeping-dogs-movie-donnie-yen-confirms-its-still-in-production" target="_blank">the film disappeared a year later</a> and, just a few weeks ago, Yen himself confirmed it had been scrapped.</p><p></p><p>"I spent a lot of time and did a lot of work with these producers, and I even invested some of my own money into obtaining the drafts and some of the rights," Yen said. "I waited for years. years. And I really wanted to do it. And unfortunately... I don't know. You know how Hollywood goes, right?"</p><p></p><p>All hope for a continuation of the Hong Kong-set action franchise was therefore lost, until Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Liu replied to a random social media post. Whether or not he will gain the rights to the film, or get it running otherwise, remain to be seen.</p><p></p><p>Sleeping Dogs was released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC and tells the story of detective Wei Shen as he infiltrates one of Hong Kong's notorious Triad crime syndicates. It was very well received, <a href="https://www.ign.com/articles/sleeping-dogs-review" target="_blank">earning an 8/10 in IGN's review</a>, but despite this received no follow ups were released.</p><p></p><p></p><p><em>Ryan Dinsdale is an IGN freelance reporter.
