In a surprise twist, Supermassive Games and Bandai Namco have officially announced Little Nightmares 3 at this year's Gamescom Opening Night Live. The reveal trailer unveiled two new characters, Low and Alone. Players can play single-player with the second character being controlled by AI, or can play with someone else in online co-op in a first for the series. It will be released sometime in 2024 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. In addition to Little Nightmares 3, they also announced a new podcast, The Sounds of Nightmares. In a switch, Little Nightmares 3 is being developed by Supermassive instead of original creator Tarsier, which announced it was done with the series in 2021 (with the caveat that Bandai could continue with the series.) The first Little Nightmares debuted for PlayStation 4, Windows and Xbox One in 2017, with a Switch version coming out the following year. Stepping into the shoes of a little girl named Six, the game had players attempting to escape an iron vessel filled with monsters. It quickly gained a fanbase and positive reviews, with IGN's Joe Skrebels writing in his 8.8/10 review, "gleefully strange, unceasingly grim, and quietly smart, Little Nightmares is a very welcome fresh take on horror." Little Nightmares II, actually a prequel to the original, was released in February 2021, with an Enhanced Edition coming in August of that year for Playstation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. In our review of Little Nightmares 2, which we gave a 7 out of 10, IGN's Tristan Ogilvie said that it's "every bit as black, bleak, and eerily beautiful as the original." However, it "leaves less of a lasting impact" compared to its predecessor. Correction: A previous version of this story had previous developer Tarsier listed instead of Supermassive Games. This article has been updated and IGN regrets the error. Continue reading...
