Fishburne starred in the 1997 sci-fi horror film as Captain Miller, the leader of the rescue vessel called Lewis and Clark. Set in 2047, the original follows Miller and a crew of astronauts who are sent to investigate a missing spaceship — the Event Horizon — that mysteriously reappears. Sam Neill, Kathleen Quinlan and Joely Richardson also starred. In August 2019, Variety reported that Amazon and Paramount Television were developing a series adaptation, with Adam Wingard set to direct and executive produce the show. During the interview, Fishburne revealed to IGN that he “had no idea” that an Event Horizon series is currently in the works.
