Indie Horror Game Stray Souls Gets Oct. 25 Release Date

October, the spookiest month of the year, is officially upon us, if you're looking for a new horror game to celebrate the occasion, the indie horror title Stray Souls is launching later this month.

In a new post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), indie developer Jukai Studio announced its debut project will be released on Oct. 25, 2023 — five days before Halloween, as the studio previously said it was coming out around the holiday. The game will be available on PC, in addition to PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Powered by Unreal Engine 5, Stray Souls has players controlling Daniel, a teenage boy who recently inherited his grandma's home completely debt-free. Despite the lack of a mortgage, Daniel's new abode becomes a nightmare-fueled house of horror.

The game's publisher, Versus Evil, notes on its website that Stray Souls' gameplay is inspired "by classic horror combat with soulslike precision," touting the gameplay adds a fresh perspective into the modern-day action horror subgenre.

Versus Evil elaborates more on Stray Souls, explaining how replayable the game is, as it features randomized systems that ensure things like enemy encounters, and item locations, among other things occur at various places. Even more interesting, in July, it was confirmed that Akira Yamaoka, the legendary composer best known for his work on the Silent Hill franchise (including the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake), helped compose Stray Souls' soundtrack.
