Fortnite is partnering with the Coachella music festival in yet another instance of the popular battle royale encroaching on the real world. The sound and fashion of the annual show are coming to Fortnite, an Epic Games blog post revealed, as a ton of Coachella themed items are being added to the store. Players can also listen to a selection of songs from the upcoming festival in-game, which includes artists such as Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, and Doja Cat, by tuning in to Icon Radio while driving around the map. The collaboration comes just days after Sony and LEGO's parent company KIRKBI invested $2 billion in Epic Games' metaverse and the partnership with Coachella certainly leans into the idea of bringing "the real world" into a shared online space. You can now drive around listening to music while chatting to friends... in Fortnite. And while Epic Games didn't say that actual Coachella shows would be coming to the game it has hosted concerts in the past with superstars like Ariana Grande and Travis Scott. The items arriving as a result of the Coachella partnership will be split into two parts, with the first wave of items arriving at 5pm PT / 8pm ET / 1am BST. It includes the Wilder and Lyric outfits (with alternative equalizer skins that react to the music) plus accessories to match. Wilder comes with the Finfin Back Bling (a neon shark) while a similar Neon Biter Pickaxe and Finfin Flair Wrap area also available. Lyric comes with the Swaguaro Back Bling (a rainbow cactus) while the Festival Shredder Pickaxe (a flaming guitar) is available separately. The second wave comes at the same time on April 21 and includes the Alto outfit that comes with Sonic Vibes Back Bling (not the hedgehog but a headphone wearing smiley) and a palm tree-looking Softest Electropalm Pickaxe. Also coming in wave two is Poet, who comes with the Cosmonautic Helmet Back Bling. The Cactical Crusher Pickaxe and Mainstage Wrap are also available. This Coachella event isn't the only music collaboration that Fortnite has produced recently, as in February it added Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak to the game. Ryan Dinsdale is an IGN freelancer who occasionally remembers to tweet @thelastdinsdale. He'll talk about The Witcher all day. Continue reading...
