Disney Dreamlight Valley will expand its roster with The Lion King and Toy Story content later this year, bringing more characters, realms and stories to the life-sim adventure game. Gameloft has unveiled an Early Access roadmap for Disney Dreamlight Valley, confirming two free content updates before the end of the year. The first update will center around The Lion King and is expected to arrive sometime this fall. Players will be able to unleash Scar as a new villainous character while also continuing the main story and encountering "more surprises." After that, there will be a Toy Story in late fall that will come with new characters to interact with, a new realm to visit, and even "more surprises." The Toy Story update was glimpsed during the Disney Marvel games showcase at D23 2022, where some footage was released showing Woody and Buzz Lightyear exploring the realm and interacting with some of Disney's most iconic villains. While no precise dates were given for the two updates, Gameloft lead producer Manea Castet recently spoke to IGN about the forthcoming expansions. "I can confirm that really soon – even before the Toy Story realm – we will see Scar from The Lion King," he confirmed, adding that Scar is "coming to the valley really soon, and not alone – he will play a key role in the main story of the game." The Disney Dreamlight Valley team also confirmed there will be more free updates to come in 2023. "There are many, many Disney and Pixar movies that are great, with great characters, so it's almost an unlimited source of creativity for us," Castet said of their ideas. "We have many, many plans to expand the roster and add additional characters, additional stories, and so on." IGN's Early Access review of Disney Dreamlight Valley called the game "an awesome life simulator that flexes its iconic characters to riveting, satisfying effect," noting that, "even with a ton of bugs and a missing final act in this early access state, spending 40 hours running around with the gloriously beefy Maui from Moana and cooking meals with Remy from Ratatouille was a consistently delicious treat."
