Bethesda announced that it has set up dedicated online servers for Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. These official servers are meant to cater to players who want a more traditional experience, which means they include only the six original maps and no community mods. “We’re excited to announce that we’ve deployed official dedicated servers for Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory,” Bethesda says on its website. “Though the community has hosted – and continues to host – servers with a variety of mods and custom maps that we highly recommend, we also understand that many players are looking for a more nostalgic experience.” These servers are named “id Software Official Vanilla Server - (Region)” and there are four of them, with one per official region: United States (Texas), Europe (Netherlands), Australia (Canberra), United Kingdom (London). The “Campaign” game mode is on by default on these servers and can host a maximum of 16 players in an 8vs8 match. Friendly Fire will also be turned on while the anti-cheat program Punkbuster is turned off. Additionally, Anti-lag functionality is enabled, and both max lives and weapon restrictions settings are not. Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory launched in 2003 for PC. In IGN’s Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory review, we said, “Not the perfect balance of coordinated action and high-end graphics many might have been hoping for, nor is it as robust a package as America's Army, Enemy Territory still manages to offer a solid change from a pace set by Battlefield.” [I]George Yang is a freelance writer for IGN.
