<blockquote data-quote="Admin" data-source="post: 58447" data-attributes="member: 1"><p>CD Projekt Red has revealed to IGN how certain NSFW textures made their way into <a href="https://www.ign.com/games/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt" target="_blank">The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt</a>'s next-gen update, and why it's going to remove them.</p><p></p><p></p><p>The prolific Witcher 3 PC modding community is responsible for creating a <a href="https://www.ign.com/videos/21-great-witcher-3-mods-for-returning-players" target="_blank">dizzying array of modifications</a> to the legendary RPG, ranging from graphical and texture enhancements to countless quality of life and inventory management improvements.</p><p></p><p>At some stage, a modder also decided to create anatomically correct genitals for female characters, and those modifications <a href="https://www.ign.com/articles/witcher-3-next-gen-accidentally-included-some-nsfw-community-mods" target="_blank">somehow made it into the next-gen update</a> for The Witcher 3 alongside the range of other mods that were officially adopted by the studio.</p><p></p><p></p><p>“As was understood by CD PROJEKT RED until very recently, the vulva textures in question were a part of the 'HD Monsters Reworked' (HDMR) mod, not the 'Vaginas for Everyone' mod,” said a studio spokesperson in a statement to IGN.</p><p></p><p></p><p>“In 2021, at the time of signing the copyright transfer agreement, the HDMR mod author confirmed to CDPR that they were the sole author of the mod in question. The HDMR mod author granted CD PROJEKT RED rights to use the mod and was credited & compensated for their work.”</p><p></p><p>CD Projekt Red also re-iterated that it was “committed” to removing the textures from the game in a future update. “We want to also add that the removal of these elements is not intended as a statement against nudity or mature themes, but rather an attempt to maintain visual coherence across all character models — including these textures in the game was not something we planned from the start.”</p><p></p><p></p><p>The studio has reached out to the original creator of the HDMR mod with questions for clarification.</p><p></p><p><a href="https://www.ign.com/articles/2015/05/12/the-witcher-3-the-wild-hunt-review" target="_blank">In our review</a> of the game, IGN awarded The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt a 9.3/10 for its excellent combat and exploration gameplay, which help elevate it “to a plane few other RPGs inhabit”.</p><p></p><p></p><p>Anthony is a freelance contributor covering science and video gaming news for IGN.
