Capcom Pulls Dragon's Dogma 2 Microtransactions Ahead of Dark Arisen Expansion Release

This comes alongside a permanent discount for the digital version of the base game.</p><p></p><p>In a post on <a href="https://x.com/DragonsDogma/status/2064860348872536529" target="_blank">social media</a>, Capcom listed the microtransactions it was pulling from sale, including the character editor and the warp location marker.</p><p></p><p></p><p><a href="https://www.ign.com/articles/dragons-dogma-2-breaks-capcom-steam-records-amid-microtransactions-furore" target="_blank">Dragon’s Dogma 2 was criticized at launch back in 2024 for its microtransactions</a>, with over 21 available on launch day. These ranged in price from $0.99 to $4.99, and included an Explorer’s Camping Kit for $2.99, a $0.99 gaol key that lets you escape from gaol but breaks after a single use, a Portcrystal warp location marker that costs $2.99, and $0.99 Wakestones that restore the dead to life.</p><p></p><p>While these microtransaction items were easily obtainable in-game through simply playing, and many never felt the need to spend money on them, they sparked controversy not just for the sheer number available day-one, but because they made parts of the game deliberately designed to challenge players in certain ways either easier, less frustrating, or quicker. <a href="https://www.ign.com/articles/dragons-dogma-2-mods-undercut-capcoms-controversial-microtransactions-dish-out-infinite-save-slots" target="_blank">Modders ended up making these items available in unlimited numbers in response</a>.</p><p></p><p>Capcom has already released a major title update for Dragon’s Dogma 2, and plans another for the end of August that will improve the frame-rate, add additional save slots, and make a number of quality-of-life improvements.
