Ayaneo, the company known for making a slew of handheld gaming PCs, has announced its latest product: the Next Lite, another portable gaming PC that is the first non-Steam Deck handheld to run Valve's Linux-based operating system SteamOS. Announced in a press release, Ayaneo revealed the Next Lite, revealing that the device will be a "value-for-money option" for someone who wants a handheld gaming PC running SteamOS but may not want to buy a Steam Deck for whatever reason. It is an odd pitch from Ayaneo, considering the company did not disclose how much the Next Lite will retail for. However, the company said it is opening "subscriptions" for the Next Lite on Thursday, January 11th, at 4:30 pm PT/7:30 pm ET. Ayaneo notes that the Next Lite will feature a 7-inch 800p screen with a 47W battery, confirming that the device uses Hall Effect joysticks. However, the type of parts the device uses, such as CPU and GPU, have not been disclosed. In the past, Ayaneo has made handhelds that used Intel and AMD CPUs and AMD graphics. Outside of being the first third-party handheld gaming PC maker to use SteamOS, Ayaneo Next Lite will also come in several different color options, as seen in the announcement image above. The announcement of the Ayaneo Next Lite comes during the week of CES 2024, where among the biggest announcements coming from the event include MSI entering the market with its own portable gaming PC, the Claw, which will cost $699 and release later this year.
