Electronic Arts is currently in the midst of a slew of cancellations and closures, the latest being a previously unknown project code-named TFL or Titanfall Legends — a secret single-player game set in the Titanfall and Apex Legends universe. The news was first reported by Bloomberg. Not much is known about Titanfall Legends save that it was reportedly directed by Mohammad Alavi, who served as a design on the Titanfall games among other projects. Alavi departed EA early last year. The cancellation coincides with the closure of the mobile versions of Apex Legends and Battlefield, as well as the shuttering of Industrial Toys. According to Bloomberg, roughly 50 developers were affected by the Titanfall Legends' cancellation. EA will...

Sony has announced that the PlayStation Plus games for February 2023 are OlliOlli World (PS4 and PS5), Mafia: Definitive Edition (PS4), Evil Dead: The Game (PS4 and PS5), and Destiny 2: Beyond Light (PS4 and PS5). As revealed on the PlayStation Blog, all four games will be made available at no extra cost to PlayStation Plus subscribers on February 7. OlliOlli World is a skateboarding action-platformer that lets players traverse a wild and wacky colourful world on, well, a skateboard. Players can take on different missions, customise their look, meet eccentric characters, and explore vibrant locations in a skateboarding utopia. In our 9/10 review, IGN said: "Rollercoaster-like courses and a wealth of moves make OlliOlli World a huge...
Marvel's Avengers fans may have seen its end coming, but that doesn't stop the disappointment caused by not seeing its story finished or potential met. Following developer Crystal Dynamics' announcement that it would be delisting Avengers and ending active development, its community took to social media to share their disappointment. Many complained about cosmetics being made free after its dedicated community had already spent considerable amounts of money on them, others lamented that long-requested features would never come to be, and others just shared their sadness that a game they enjoyed is shutting down. The biggest complaint, however, seems to be that Avengers will forever have an unfinished story, as despite having three...
As part of James Gunn’s big reveal for the newly launched DCU, he shared that video games will tie into the movies, TV, and animation projects that will make up Warner Bros. Discovery’s big reboot of the DC universe. While Hollywood has spent the last century perfecting the production process of movies and TV shows, paving the way for grand, interconnected universes, adding video games into the mix could be a bold direction that not even DC’s rivals at Marvel are trying to do. During a press conference Gunn revealed, “And what we're doing with the DCU is we are having animation tied directly into live-action television and movies and games all intertwined within the same universe. We're going to cast actors that are going to be able...
Konami's online murder mystery game Crimesight is being removed from sale just ten months after it launched, and shut down for good in May. As reported by PC Gamer, Konami quietly updated the game's Steam page to announce that sales of the game would be ending on February 27 and it would be made unplayable on May 1. Crimesight will therefore essentially cease to exist, due to what Konami called "various circumstances", but perhaps most likely as a result of a player-base that dwindled almost immediately. Despite a generally positive reception, Steam DB data shows just 572 players online at its launch on April 14 last year, though this fell to just a few dozen a month later and has ranged from ten to 20 players since December...
Microsoft has announced that 46 games will be removed from the Xbox 360 Marketplace on February 7, including Dark Souls, The Witcher 2, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, and more. As reported by Game Informer, Xbox shared the list of disappearing games on its official support website, though it varies slightly between regions. Disc versions of these games will remain playable, and previously downloaded copies can also still be played. Gematsu also confirmed that the versions of these games available to download on Xbox One or Xbox Series consoles will also remain on those respective stores. The Xbox 360 games being removed varies from region to region, but the list affecting customers in the United States is as follows: Aegis Wing...
It's going to be a sombre start to February, folks. According to Microsoft: "[On Feb 7th] A number of game titles and associated add-ons will be removed from the Xbox 360 Marketplace in a select set of regions per title." There are a bunch of delisting games below that I'd totally buy (again). Some of these offer the power of back-compat. Some don't. Some have since received remastered/updated versions. Some didn't. Best double check all that here. Personally, I'd secure Splinter Cell: Conviction. XOX Enhanced, and I have a thing for bespoke 2-player co-op campaigns. Capcom has shared new details on the upcoming remake of Resident Evil 4. This includes confirmation that it will remove quick-time events, add sidequests, and introduce breakable knives. Capcom provided a better idea of what fans can expect from the highly anticipated remake in a new cover story for Game Informer. The most significant change from the remake is that there will be no quick-time events. Game Informer's story mentions that sidequests are also being added to the remake, stating that blue flyers located in-game are used to collect sidequests for you to complete, with examples including solving a puzzle, tracking down and eliminating a specific enemy. The blue medallion collectible that was featured in the original will...
What constitutes a remake or a remaster or even a reboot? Regardless of what you call it, today we’re looking at Dead Space, the new recreation of the classic survival horror game. The original is beloved by many – will history repeat itself here? What’s on the menu? Motive studios have some space experience, but this war is of a much bloodier kind, and remaking such a cherished sci-fi tale is surely a daunting task. The weapon of choice is DICE’s long serving Frostbite engine which has been used for everything from Battlefield to FIFA. Here they have to turn down the lights for a gory, tension-soaked rebirth of Isaac aboard the doomed Ishimura. The upgrades and rebuilt assets and models transform the entire game, and Isaac himself is...
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is being delayed, EA announced today. Respawn's forthcoming sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will now release April 28 — approximately six weeks after its original date. In a statement posted on social media, director Stig Asmussen addressed the reasoning behind the delay, saying the team is focused on polishing the final release while enhancing performance. Respawn Entertainment CEO and Group GM Vince Zampella also released a statement, saying that Respawn is "dedicated to making games that feel good to play." "We're proud of the game this team has created and giving them the extra time ensures that on April 28th we're delivering another great Star Wars experience for our players," Zampella said...
Halo is reportedly staying at 343 Industries, but the franchise's direction is unclear amidst layoffs and a pivot away from Halo's Slipspace engine. In a report from Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, the studio's leadership overhaul, mass layoffs, and other big changes are causing 343 to essentially hit the reset button on the franchise. The report also claims that at least 95 people were laid off from 343 as a part of this month's mass layoffs at Microsoft, and that 343 was not working on new missions for Halo Infinite's story over the last year. After the layoffs, rumors started circulating claiming that Microsoft could pass Halo development to another studio entirely. According to today's report, Halo is staying put, despite concerns...
Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, the asymmetical multiplayer ghost-hunting game based on the popular films, has unveiled its first free DLC including a new map, ghost type, and other updates. And it's all out today. The new DLC includes The Facility, a new map set in an abandoned health center closed in the 1980s, but set to reopen...if its construction crews can get past the ghost problem. We'll also see a new ghost type, the Glutton, a class that includes the Muncher ghost and two other variants. Developer Illfonic says the Muncher is the most-requested ghost type thus far - we were first introduced to the metal-eating ghost in in Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Additionally, the DLC will bring new character customization options...
It’s widely agreed upon that the last, truly outstanding professional boxing game was 2011’s Fight Night Champion – a game that was initially released for the now-ancient Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Granted, if you’ve poked your head into a virtual reality headset any time in the last five years, you may have gotten a chance to throw a few swings at The Thrill of the Fight or Creed: Rise to Glory, both of which are decent boxing simulators albeit far removed from the official ruleset or roster of the UFC. But now, over twelve years after Fight Night disappeared, developer Steel City Interactive may be reaching for the title belt with Undisputed, a new professional boxing game that seemingly represents a return to form for the boxing...
Developer Storm in a Teacup has announced Steel Seed, a new action-stealth adventure game for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It's tentatively due out in 2024. In Steel Seed, the last survivors of Earth, who are being kept safe underground by AI machines following mankind's own near-destruction of the planet, must defend themselves against a new threat. “Steel Seed represents the most challenging project 'til now for Storm in a Teacup, featuring both a varied combat/stealth system and an incredibly deep and emotional storytelling,” said studio CEO and creative director Carlo Ivo Alimo Bianchi. “Steel Seed is an epic journey that will test your humanity.” Take a look at the announcement trailer above and the first screenshots...
Great Metroidvania titles come far and few between despite it being such a beloved genre, and perhaps the biggest hurdle to overcome is how any new Metroidvania can stand out and distinguish itself amongst the crowd. With momentum behind it after an excellent first attempt, Teslagrad 2 is taking its best shot with a long-awaited sequel. After playing the first hour, it is apparent that this series is committed to providing a different experience by making a fundamental change while still being relatively true to the genre. Teslagrad 2 is a side-scrolling Metroidvania that focuses heavily on puzzle-based gameplay and exploration. Inspired by Scandinavian and Norse regions, the main character Lumina crash-lands in a forest and must now...

It seems you'll finally be able to shout "1v1 me, bro" in developer Second Dinner's superhero-themed mobile card game, Marvel Snap. The popular licensed collectible card game, which won Best Mobile Game at the Game Awards, will finally be getting one of its most requested features since launching in October of last year: the ability to challenge your friends directly. The so-called Battle Mode will be available tomorrow. Up until now, players have been at the mercy of Marvel Snap's one and only playlist, a competitive matchmade mode that pits you against a random opponent in your skill bracket. In a recent blog post Second Dinner announced that Battle Mode would be a tournament-style mode where players play multiple games against...
This article was originally published in 2018 as the "13 Best Zombie Games of All Time," and then updated in 2019 to include 19 games. As we enter 2023, we've revisited and revamped our list, expanding it to 25 and crowning a new king of zombie games. Zombies make marvelous antagonists. They’re plodding, dark parodies of society’s short-sightedness. They’re plentiful and emotionless eaters of flesh, which makes them perfect cannon fodder for action films and twitch shooters. Their wasted visages serve the purposes of both horror and humor with equal effectiveness. They’ve been a part of the video game landscape for decades, so long they’ve carved out their own subgenre: the “zombie game.” The still-shambling corpses of the damned...
Microsoft has announced that the Xbox Games with Gold line-up for February 2023 includes For the King and Guts n Goals. Revealed on the Xbox Wire, the two Games with Gold offerings will be available to anyone with Xbox Live Gold or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, with For the King available first from February 1 to 28, and Guts N Goals being available later from February 16 to March 15. Originally launching in 2018, For the King is a rogue-like RPG that lets players explore procedurally generated levels on an adventure to avenge their murdered king. For the King can be played solo or with online and local multiplayer, with teams having to choose between sticking together to stay safe or splitting up to cover more ground. Guts N Goals came...
Whether I’m enjoying my favorite memes or going back to rewatch one of the only cartoons I still legitimately laugh at as an adult, it’s hard to understate SpongeBob SquarePants’ influence on my life. Through it all, the porous goofball I’ve known for years feels like the perfect mascot for an over-the-top, cartoonish platformer. While 2003’s SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom proved it could be done, we’ve been in dire need of a modern take on that idea starring everyone’s favorite fry cook. And yet, like a collapsing Squidward Souffle, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake dried up my optimism the more I played: it’s merely a thin, by-the-numbers sequel to the 20-year-old Bikini Bottom rather than the ground-up redesign...
