Introduction -

Welcome Ladies and Gentlemen.

I have here a new design idea which should encourage and possibly change PvP, i'd like as many opinions as possible before implementing this so I can start work on Project Capricorn.

Content -

World -

Unfortunately my vision didn't pan out as expected, the skylands and nether were implemted as I thought inception would be a certain possibility for our server. Unfortunately that plan slid out of the window. The lag spikes you sometimes experience are (i think) coming from the Skylands, I purpose to remove the skylands completely in 'Aggression v1.1' and replace it with a more organised world. Before any of you jump to the 'but i love skylands' arguments, hear me out; Not many of our player base use the Skylands, it's novelty factor was minor and it doesn't seem like a unique selling point, so I mentioned a more organised world, what I mean by this is a structured travel system which runs on rail, supported by a series of bridges etc. These rails will take you to certain co-ordinates of interest on the map and will span quite for out.

Shops -

A lot of you keep saying, 'where can I sell stuff?', 'Where can I buy stuff?'. The rail system listed above will give me the ability to make a larger complex that is easier to access. I don't want to ruin the PvP experience by making this server free build so they will still be limited. I refuse to sell things like wooden planks, obsidian - Get off your arses etc etc.

Map -

We've spoke together on this a lot, an interactive map that will allow you to see the world real time. This will hopefully comfort new players into joining, allow you to see where your enemies bases are and quickly decide which rail you need to use to get where you want to go. This been said, the map will NOT show active player locations.

VIP Benefits -

Don't take this the wrong way but we did expect a lot more activity and talk about the VIP system than what we got. I'm currently thinking about a STRICT home system for the VIP's as we do intend to expand the world quite a lot. If we push the rail system further this may allow us to set up graveyards at the rail stations and remove the '/spawn' command for new players and place it in the grasp of the VIP rank.

Overview -

  • Remove skylands.
  • Add a Rail system.
  • New shops.
  • Add Dynmap.
  • Alter the spawn and death locations.
  • VIP benefit changes.

Note -

  • These changes aren't set in stone.
  • I want your opinions.
  • I know I didn't mention a faction based wartime, but give me a day or two.

A full map could be quite 'cheap' as people can go and find hidden bases I suppose. (I know most are underground, but I'm sure there will be some opposition with this, I see it getting used often, which might not be a bad thing however)

Factions may need to be modified, but as long as there's an alternative to protecting, otherwise the whole map would turn into a cave hiding griefhole, it's fun attacking and seeing actual bases.

" I refuse to sell things like wooden planks, obsidian - Get off your arses etc etc."

- Totally agree, It would ruin the whole "Survival of the fittest" theme that the adverts displays and the USP of the server would be broken by this.

"we do intend to expand the world quite a lot."

- And diminish close quarters combat and make pvp less viable. Not clever.

"We've spoke together on this a lot, an interactive map that will allow you to see the world real time. - As much as a real-time map would be good, I believe this ruins the incentive to build above ground and be found and encourages people to build underground and encourages camping-esque style behaviour which is already a current problem, I suggest you implement something which discourages this before doing something that encourages it. - I have small suggestions for this.

"These rails will take you to certain co-ordinates of interest on the map and will span quite for out."

-As I said in my second point of view, I believe that making the map more accessible would make for people opting for further out bases as they could build in a direction away from a station, making the map harder to scout, less bases found and thus diminishing the already problematic PvP, I suggest for the sake of the "PvP" in your server that you do NOT implement this, unless it is into a Third town or something similar and making a rail that goes to these towns and making the spawn to these towns VIP1. that way free to play users have a slower method of travel but can still get there reasonably fast and VIP's can quickly travel to and from.

"Remove skylands."

Don't mean to brag, but I told you it wouldn't be used and was a bad idea, I agree with the removing of this, it's just more places for people to hide.

" 'Aggression v1.1' "

Are you including a server re-roll in this seeing as you are already going to change spawn, add towns, add railways etc, Personally I think you should, This is comming from the person who has grinded way over 2000 MCMMO points and has had 300 docked off for training acro fast, - Which is total bullshit because some people botted there combat up and I get docked for training acro the way MCMMO wiki site suggests?.. - Regardless a server re-roll is a certainly good idea, I know this will annoy alot of people, - Including myself - But there is ALOT of new players on the server and it would be a good idea for the current 50ish members to all have a fresh start.

No caps "I" dan, and also no-one likes skylands. (or at best, no-one with an opinion worth noting)

I don't mind the VIP home system as long as it isn't abused. I don't see the point of removing /spawn. Sure, /spawn lets a certain few get away from combat, but the spawn is where a lot of PvP happens. Removing that command will take away even more PvP in my opinion.

Just my opinion.

Well it wont change how you fight, it will change where you fight 😛 I don't like people spawn camping, and i'd like to encourage bigger factions with bigger fortresses on the map, even if that means they're 5000 different on a axis. The Dynmap may be able to give a cave view as well, i'll look into it.

See above

It's possible we set some limit to the map then. A large limit, but limited nevertheless.

Potentially we could make another map on the test server while Aggression is played and completely roll back everything. Having said that not everyone will welcome this..

Some people have built in Skylands as of last night which is something that will need to be tackled before we implement it. And I know certain people use it, all you have to do is go there to see people have branched out quite far there.

The intention of this is to make people walk from there base to the shops, the battlegrounds, enemies bases. Once you've seen them moving from a general direction you'll be able to locate using Dynmap where they are. The /spawn command is more likely to take you to the nearest graveyard (which will be located at each station at every '(value here)' on the axis.

Having a large map where factions control large portions of it would be really interesting, it'd go with the united factions idea too. There's 128 spaces for players so as the server grows and we get some more viable factions we'll see how it goes, I can see someone scouting a base and figuring out where they have to walk to get to the shops and setting up an ambush or something. It still isn't perfected but I understand the idea and it's absolutely epic.
