A Whole New Developer Is Remaking the XIII Remake

The much-maligned remake of XIII is now being, well, remade by a completely different developer after it was released to scathing reviews in 2020. Announced on the game's Steam page, publisher Microids revealed that XIII's remake will essentially be released again thanks to a major update that arrives on September 13. The hefty update from French studio Tower Five will redefine the art style (which was criticised for abandoning the original, comic book look), enhance the A.I., rework the HUD, revamp the sound design, and add multiplayer for up to 13 players. Return to Monkey Island director Ron Gilbert will no longer talk about the game online due to the amount of abuse he has received, particularly about its new art style. As reported by Video Games Chronicle, Gilbert said on his personal blog (the entirety of which has now been shut down) that "the joy of sharing has been driven from me", and it isn't the first time the developer has been forced to defend the game following fan backlash. Valve: 'No Impact To Performance' After Steam Deck SSD Switch

Valve has clarified that its quiet switch of SSDs in the Steam Deck will have "no impact to performance" following concerns that the hardware had been downgraded. Polygon reported that Valve had changed the Steam Deck specs, with some 256GB and 512GB models coming with a different SSD than what was initially advertised. A switch from the PCIe Gen 3 x4 NVMe SSD to the PCIe Gen 3 x2 NVMe SSD appeared to be a downgrade, but Valve has refuted this to IGN. Spellbreak Developer to be Acquired By Blizzard to Work on World of Warcraft, Spellbreak to Shut Down

Spellbreak developer Proletariat will seemingly be acquired by Blizzard to work on World of Warcraft, with a major consequence being that the wizard-based Battle Royale be shut down. Proletariat announced the closure of Spellbreak yesterday (June 28) before VentureBeat later reported that there was plans for the studio and its 100 members of staff to be purchased by Blizzard. Ubisoft's open world pirate game Skull & Bones will reportedly be released on November 8, after years of troubled development. As reported by Eurogamer, industry insider @ALumia_Italia shared on Twitter (below) that a release date had been found amid an apparent Xbox Store entry, also listing a plethora of DLC packs for the game. The Witcher DLC is Coming to Lost Ark This Winter

Lost Ark is receiving The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt-themed DLC that's expected to be released this winter. The DLC was revealed during Lost Ark's summer showcase (that focuses on the South Korean version of the game) and spotted by PCGamesN, it's currently unclear if the DLC will be released for just this version or if it'll hit the western version of Lost Ark too. Details are still hazy, but CD Projekt Red told IGN that it's "working with Smilegate RPG to bring the most authentic Witcher experience to Lost Ark. The Blade Runner Game Remaster Was So Unpopular That the Devs Added the 1997 Version

Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition was released last week to such a poor reception that developer Nightdive Studios has now added a version of the 1997 original to play on Steam instead. In an update on the game's Steam page, Nightdive co-founder Daniel Grayshon announced that the 1997 version has been rebranded as the Classic version and been added to the $9.99 package as a free update. "The free update will be downloaded automatically and when you start Blade Runner through Steam, you'll be given a choice of launching the Enhanced Edition or the Classic version," Grayshon said. Fntastic, the developer behind Steam's most wishlisted game The Day Before, has defended its use of unpaid workers. Speaking to Eurogamer, the company claimed every employee, paid or not, is a volunteer, because "we always try to bring in proactive people with open hearts". Fntastic categorises its workers in two camps: full-time volunteers and part-time volunteers.
