Fallout: New Vegas developer Obsidian isn't working on a new Fallout game currently - but its CEO Feargus Urquhart says "there's not a question" about doing one if he was asked. Speaking to DualShockers, Urquhart said his studio would unquestionably work on a new Fallout game if the opportunity arose, though he doesn't know if Bethesda would ever ask it to. "If we ever got the opportunity to make another Fallout game, we'd make it. There's not even a question of whether or not we would do it, it's just: Will the opportunity arise?," Urquhart said. "I hung around at Interplay for probably an extra year because I wanted to work on Fallout more. I love Fallout." Don't expect anything anytime soon, though. On the series' 25th...
Yakuza: Like a Dragon producer and Ryu Ga Gotoku studio head Masayoshi Yokoyama has revealed One Piece to be one of the game's biggest influences, saying its cast was effectively based on Luffy and his crew. Speaking to Crunchyroll, Yokoyama said the long-running manga and anime series was on his mind during the entire writing process, resulting in Like a Dragon being essentially Yakuza: One Piece in his mind. "I’ve never really talked about this before, so I’m not sure if I should just go for it now, but for [Like a Dragon] I was really, really inspired by One Piece," Yokoyama said. "To me, Ichiban is basically Luffy. And around him there’s Zoro and Nami and basically the rest of the party. One Piece’s party composition was on my...

For the last nine years or so, Damien Crawford has been making games they don’t think people would want to play. Crawford is the sole developer and head of Cannibal Interactive. They’ve made over 20 games through the label, most of which have been released primarily on itch.io. They came to game development after several years of struggling to fit into other jobs such as fast food and mundane government work. A relationship falling through and a need to cut loose from parental support eventually pushed them to try something new. “I thought if I failed the safe path, then what do I want to do? And so I started making games.” Their first project, Legend of Moros, took two and a half years, and did not do well – not even $100 in...
Overwatch 2 has reached over 25 million players in its first 10 days and it has already achieved a "daily player base spread near-even across EMEA, Asia, and the Americas that’s nearly triple the previous daily player peak from the original Overwatch." Blizzard announced the news in a press release and it arrives following a rough launch for the free-to-play game. Despite the issues, players have continued to show up in droves. "The launch of Overwatch 2 has been such an important moment for Blizzard. We’re thrilled to bring new players from around the world into Overwatch’s vibrant universe while welcoming back the existing Blizzard community,” said Mike Ybarra, president of Blizzard Entertainment. “This is only the beginning—there...
When Gotham Knights arrives on consoles on October 21, it will do so with no performance mode and it will run at only 30 FPS. As spotted by those like Wario64 on Twitter, the news was shared by Gotham Knights executive producer Fleur "Flaoua" Marty in the game's Discord channel, and she wanted to take the time to address this question for console players. "I know many of you are wondering about the availability of a performance mode for Gotham Knights on consoles," Marty wrote. "Due to the types of features we have in our game, like providing a fully untethered co-op experience in our highly detailed open-world, it's not as straightforward as lowering the resolution and getting a higher FPS. For this reason, our game does not have a...
While Gotham Knights' campaign will only support single-player or two-player co-op, a new mode called Heroic Assault will launch for free on November 29, 2022, that will let up to four players team up in arena-based challenges. WB Games Montréal announced the news on Twitter and on Gotham Knights' FAQ page, saying, "Gotham has thrown down a new gauntlet. Heroic Assault, the free 4-player co-op experience, is coming to #GothamKnights November 29, 2022." "Heroic Assault is an upcoming gameplay mode that is separate from the main story campaign," Gotham Knights' FAQ reads. "The standalone mode supports up to four players in online co-op and provides a dedicated arena-like environment with specific objectives to complete and enemies to...

Everyone has a lot to say in the comedy-FPS High on Life, the upcoming first-person shooter from Justin Roiland and his Squanch Games development studio. Even the alien enemies you encounter. If you can keep your itchy trigger finger at bay long enough, you'll hear plenty of funny dialogue from your targets. From Merks that have fleshy armor you can shoot off of their bodies to the scurrying Mytes, the annoying Ants, and the Grunt Cyclops that have one giant eyeball atop their necks that's just dying to be popped off with your bloodthirsty melee weapon, Knifey, High on Life has quite an odd menagerie of aliens to kill. For some new gameplay that shows some of these enemies in action, don't miss our exclusive 12-minute gameplay video...
Amplitude Studios has announced that the console ports of Humankind have been delayed indefinitely. “We have to share some sad news with you today: We and our partner Aspyr Media have run into unexpected challenges in porting Humankind to consoles, and have to delay the release on Playstation 4/5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S until further notice,” Amplitude explained in a statement. The studio continued, “We know this will be frustrating for many of you, but we believe this delay is for the best, as we want to make sure to provide the best possible experience to console players. Unfortunately, we're not in a position to give a timeframe on a new release date right now, but we will update you all as soon as we can. In the meantime...
Real golf doesn’t lack thrills – watching a player sink a delicate chip-in generates no shortage of excitement. But in the context of a video game, it needs some extra energy. A pizazz. An added enthusiasm, even if it’s when browsing a menu, just to keep it from becoming something you can sleepwalk through. PGA Tour 2K23 lacks that. It’s silent, it’s calm, it’s bland, it’s so… proper. PGA Tour 2K23 (and previously, PGA Tour 2K21) was born of HB Studios’ fanatically accurate simulation The Golf Club, and the change in name hasn’t changed much about the underlying philosophy behind it. The actual shot mechanisms, ball physics, and standard frustration when sinking into a bunker retain their dazzling authenticity, and yet, even with a...
As far as I’m concerned, the original 2008 Dead Space still looks and plays pretty good today. Its art design alone goes a long way toward keeping it looking fresh amongst 2022’s next-gen dazzlers. But despite that enduring appeal, Dead Space is yet another classic game getting the full remake treatment, and where developer EA Motive seemingly uncovered the most space for improvement is in the margins and fine details. No matter how well I think the original holds up, it’s admittedly nothing compared to what EA Motive showed off to the press during our lengthy preview of the upcoming remake. My time with this preview build reminded me just how gnarly Dead Space was in the first place. While gruesome games were admittedly in their...
Blizzard has announced that Overwatch 2 won't be rebalanced until its Season 2 begins in December as it's currently happy with each hero's power level. As reported by Eurogamer, a blog post on Blizzard's website shared the developer's thoughts on the current state of the game now that most of its launch issues appear to have settled down. Outside of a targeted fix for Zarya in Total Mayhem on October 25 and (presumably) the return of Bastion and Torbjörn, who were removed from Overwatch 2 just days after it launched due to serious glitches, Blizzard said it won't implement any changes to its heroes for roughly two months. "While some heroes are performing better than others, and there are differences across player skill levels, we...
Activision is incentivising players to jump into Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's campaign by including significant multiplayer unlocks within the single player. A Call of Duty blog post outlines the 17 separate rewards that players can earn for completing missions in the campaign, including operators Hutch, Chuy, Reyes, and Nova. Also available are double XP boosts, unique calling cards and emblems, and Captain Price's M4 weapon blueprint. Activision didn't make clear if these are campaign exclusive items or if they can be unlocked eventually by playing multiplayer. Or, perhaps, through microtransactions. It did advertise its digital preorder bonus of campaign early access, however, which allows the campaign (and therefore all of...
The publisher of Nintendo Switch management simulator Let's Build a Zoo has shared how a strange eShop policy and "Argentina" made its game an accidental hit. Mike Rose, company director at publisher No More Robots, shared on Twitter (below) that people using an eShop workaround to buy games cheaper by changing their region first looked to be a disaster for Let's Build a Zoo, but quickly became the key to its success. Rose felt good when the game received lots of preorders, but after he saw they were coming from "Argentina", he grew worried. There were major problems with this, he said. "They obviously weren't really from Argentina. Clearly people were doing the easy region-swapping thing, setting their eShop region to Argentina to...
Imagine if you had to stick your hands into a sink full of dirty, putrid-smelling water to fish around for clues to a mystery. You keep pulling out weirder and more confusing stuff, and you really don't want to go back in again – but what you've found so far makes you extremely curious about what other secrets may be hiding in there. That's the best way I can describe the overall experience of playing Scorn, a first-person puzzle game about exploring the ruins of a dead civilization. With a mesmerizing, biomechanical aesthetic inspired by the likes of H.R. Giger and Harlan Ellison's I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream, it's far more disturbing and unsettling than it is horrifying. But the vibes it creates can be very potent. The most...

Iconic characters in fighting games like Street Fighter's Ryu and Ken or Scorpion and Mortal Kombat's Sub-Zero are often as famous as the games that made them. As the industry has evolved, numerous other iconic characters have entered the fighting game pantheon and made a lasting impact. Some franchise's more iconic characters even live on outside their individual games, like Soulcalibur's Ivy and Tekken's King. In honor of Street Fighter recently celebrating its 35th anniversary and Mortal Kombat its 30th: Which fighting game franchise has the most iconic characters? What makes a character iconic for you? Do any of the other franchises come close to matching Street Fighter's Ryu is or Mortal Kombat's Scorpion? Do you like to...
Pyramid Head, who is arguably the most terrifying and iconic villain from the Silent Hill franchise, was inspired by an unlikely source: a background character in Bracveheart. Silent Hill 2 director Masahiro Ito recemt;y took to Twitter to share that the "inspiration for the background of Pyramid Head from [Silent Hill 2] as the executioner. From a film Braveheart." Ito began designing Pyramid Head based on that Braveheart character, and he continued to refine the look by referencing other films and books where people put bags on their head and he "came up with the idea of an executioner of the old town." Ito also quote-tweeted a post he shared in 2017 of some of the oil and acrylic paints he made during his time as an art...
One of the standout aspects of Dragon Ball is the lineup of fantastic villains who often destroy whole cities or planets in the blink of an eye, with little regard for their average citizens. So when Dragon Ball: The Breakers puts you in the shoes either of one of these villains (called Raiders) or a terrified citizen (a Survivor) trying to escape by working together with up to six other humans, it’s a novel idea – a great one, in fact. Unfortunately, after some time with the beta, I’m left feeling that the execution of this idea leaves much to be desired: Dragon Ball: The Breakers feels every bit the budget game that it is, with bad controls, an unreliable camera, and live-service gacha mechanics that have the chance to affect...
Between Nvidia's powerful Ampere GPUs and AMD's designs using a 7nm process, the graphics card market may be the most competitive it has been in some time. That competition means good value for you as a consumer, especially considering there are options to fit just about every need. So, if you're looking to outfit your gaming PC with one of its most crucial parts, you've come to the right place. You can find one for a little over $300 that will make short work of 1080p gaming, and you won't break the bank to enjoy 1440p at high frame rates or even a perfectly playable 4K. Thanks to so many variants, like Nivida's Ti and AMD's XT cards, you can find something that'll perfectly pair with your gaming monitor. Just keep in mind there is a...
We've all been there, the pulse-pounding moment when we're about to make a genius play in our favorite online game when a half-second lag spike sees us fail miserably. Or perhaps it's when we queue up for a competitive match only to have a sudden dip in our internet connection drop us from the game three seconds after the match starts. Worse still when the whole time gaming is cursed by intermittent lag spikes that make the game a jerky mess. Some of these issues are out of our hands—and internet service providers— but many connectivity problems can stem from our routers. So, it's imperative you've got a rock-solid router for gaming if you want to get competitive online. Don't rely on your old router, as you might be working with an...

Sony has announced that its once PlayStation exclusive Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is coming to PC on November 18. Revealed in a PlayStation Blog post, Miles Morales on PC will support Nvidia's latest DLSS 3 technology to ensure the highest of frame rates (though it's exclusive to RTX 40-series graphics cards), but DLSS 2, DLAA, and Nvidia Reflex will also be supported. The game's overall system requirements were also shared (below), with PlayStation confirming that it will feature two levels of ray tracing. Miles Morales also adds new ray-traced shadows for outdoor light, enabling realistic shadows with natural gradients depending on if it's cast by the sun or moon. The game is fully optimised for ultra-wide gaming and...
A new update for Elden Ring has finally separated damage scaling for PvE and PvP. But, in a more interesting tease, the data within the patch appears to hint towards new locations and ray tracing technology. As revealed in the v1.07 patch notes for Elden Ring, damage scaling for PvE and PvP has been separated, which will allow for different weapons and skills to be balanced for each mode individually. “In the future, this feature may be used to balance weapons, Art, Spell, and Incantation in invading/PvP mode,” publisher Bandai Namco said in a blog post. “Balance adjustments made within this feature will not impact single-player and cooperative play.” The first PvP-only changes have already been made, including increased stamina...
Three times a year, Steam puts on an event called Steam Next Fest, a week-long event that features literally hundreds of game demos of upcoming steam games. It’s an awesome event, but going through all those demos and trying to get through to the really good stuff – stuff like Cult of the Lamb, Toem, and Sable – just to name a few previous Steam Next Fest games, is time consuming to say the last. Which is why we called upon some of IGN’s biggest indie fans to divvy up the work and come back with our picks for the 15 Under the Radar Games You Don’t Want to Miss from the October Steam Next Fest. Note that these picks are not in any particular order. 15. 9 Years of Shadows Metroidvanias are a very common genre among indie games, but few...
Resident Evil is a tough series to create a list for. At times horrifying, frustrating, and drenched in camp in equal measure, the series is so prolific that you can find both genre-defining masterpieces and forgettable misfires sporting the RE name. It’s a series so foundational to the growth of video games and we as gamers that quirks some may find charming and nostalgic can make certain titles simply painful for the rest of the fanbase. But make no mistake about it, the joy of working in volume is that there’s a Resident Evil game for everyone. So with that said, here’s our list of the 10 best Resident Evil games. For our criteria, we took into account our overall opinion on the quality of the games, the ease of access to play them...
EA has once again leaked a major chunk of upcoming FIFA 23 content, this time releasing the Men's World Cup mode early on PlayStation 5. As reported by Eurogamer, PS5 users have shared their surprise on social media as they've been able to access the World Cup mode menus and team lists ahead of its official launch. While games can't currently be played in the World Cup menu, the leak has revealed that the upcoming DLC will contain four game modes when it releases later this year: FIFA World Cup Live (which will presumably let players emulate that day's real-life games), FIFA World Cup Kick-Off, Online Tournament, and FIFA World Cup 2022. It also showed that the World Cup mode will include 48 teams in total, 16 more than the real...
As a new free-to-play looter shooter, The First Descendant faces heavy competition. Between established juggernauts like Destiny 2 and Warframe receiving regular expansions and the regular stream of smaller games, making yourself seen in this crowded genre isn’t easy. After spending time with The First Descendant’s upcoming beta test in solo play and four-player co-op, I don’t believe this will be the one to break through. What’s here is enjoyable enough, just nothing especially compelling. The First Descendant’s story wouldn’t feel out of place in a classic sci-fi novel; it’s that old tale of humanity fending off alien invaders. Here, you can choose one of ten playable Descendants, each bringing unique skills to repel the Vulgus...
