The dreaded and feared Skibidi Toilet has reared its truly ugly head in Fortnite at last. The rumored update officially dropped in the game last night, and so far it's prompting reactions of skepticism, confusion, and delight from the Fortnite community. First off, let's talk about the crossover itself. We first learned about it earlier this week via leakers, followed up by a confirmation from the official Fortnite X account of a toilet, plunger, and camera emoji in succession and a date: December 18, 2024. The actual update went live last night, and includes a Skibidi Toilet bundle on the item shop (discounted to 2,200 V-bucks at the time this piece was written) consisting of plunger pickaxes, a Plungerhead character skin, and two...
In a piece of news I certainly didn't see coming in the waning hours of 2024, today it was announced that indie cult classic game OFF is getting released on Steam and Nintendo Switch next year in a new and "improved" version, including a physical edition. For those unfamiliar, OFF is an RPG that first released in 2008 from Belgian studio Unproductive Fun Time. It was made in RPG Maker, originally released in French, and has never received an official English translation, though multiple fan translations have sprung up over the years. It's also never been available on typical, popular PC storefronts such as Steam or itch.io, but instead has circulated over the years as a direct download, gaining a cult following due to how utterly...
New York Jets owner Woody Johnson reportedly used Madden NFL video game ratings to make real world player acquisitions. As reported by The Athletic, a deal between the Jets and the Denver Broncos, that would bring wide received Jerry Jeudy to New York, fell apart when Johnson stepped in to say Jeudy's player rating in Madden NFL was too low. The deal was otherwise good to go but fell apart based on Johnson's decision. Jeudy was instead traded to the Cleveland Browns and is having a strong season, having crossed the 1,000 yard receiving mark for the first time in his career. This wasn't the only time Johnson cited Madden ratings either, as he was reportedly reluctant to sign free agent guard John Simpson. This instance was a little...

Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead is giving all players free Killzone items starting today, December 19, in response to a backlash over pricing. Part one of the Helldivers 2 and Killzone crossover includes a Killzone-themed armor set, assault rifle, banner, cape, and player title. If you want all the Killzone items you’ll have to hand over Super Credits to the value of nearly twice the cost of a premium Warbond, and nearly half the price of Helldivers 2 itself. In a post on the Helldivers 2 Steam page, Arrowhead said it had talked to Killzone developer Guerrilla Games and is now gifting the items that were meant to be sold as part of the crossover’s second wave next week. “As this was our first crossover offering, we’ve been...
With the shadow of Concord’s demise hanging over the latter part of the year, it would be easy to fall into the trap of thinking 2024 was a rough time for PlayStation. But the past twelve months have been really solid for Team Sony, with a selection of games that really highlight the console’s strength in multiple areas, be that gargantuan RPGs, slick cinematic action, or spine-chilling horror. It’s a good job there was such a great spread, too, as 2024 marks the return of our platform awards after being absent for the past few years. We’ve aimed to capture what made each console feel unique this year, and so naturally that means exclusives or games that feel distinctly “at home” on a specific platform. That was pretty easy for...
Video games as a medium is a home for all kinds of experiences and challenges, and the past decade has only seen that variety grow. But while we’re excited about games that break new boundaries, we’ll always have time for the classics, and there are few genres that feel quite as foundational as the action/adventure. Its roots go all the way back to the 1980s, and many of its formative games live on today, such as The Legend of Zelda and Prince of Persia – both of which saw new releases in 2024. But while the action/adventure genre is a long-standing core pillar of gaming, it has changed, morphed, and evolved over the years. While we still have the 2D side-scrollers of yesteryear, we also have new subgenres that make the most of new...
Five Nights at Freddy’s tower defense Roblox experience Five Nights TD just dropped the first part of its Christmas Update, with more planned to roll out next week. The festive update for the strategy spin on everyone’s favorite animatronic horror franchise delivers new units and games while dressing up the lobby with enough decorations to lift the spirits of any Grinch. This also means that the Christmas Event has arrived, giving players winter-y areas to explore and survive through. Candy canes and Christmas trees aside, Five Nights TD’s new update comes with more than just a few jolly changes to the atmosphere to keep players entertained through December. Also included in the update are two new games and two new exclusive units...
The premise of the Roblox experience Pls Donate is unlike anything else on the platform. It's a platform for those who are feeling generous to jump into and donate some of their hard-earned Robux to smaller creators. Some people create special pieces of UGC that they sell to other players, almost like a digital flea market. Others just roam around asking for donations so they can finally upgrade their Robloxaian. As someone who has been on both the giving and receiving end, Pls Donate is truly a one-of-a-kind experience to mess around in. But what could make an experience like this even better, you may be asking yourself? Why, a Christmas-themed update that rewards generous players, that's what. Bringing several new items into Pls...
Activision has confirmed it has recast some members of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 cast after fans noticed much-loved Zombies characters with new voices in-game. The company issued a statement to Game Developer admitting characters in Black Ops 6’s Zombies mode were recast amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. Zombies characters William Peck (Zeke Alton) and Samantha Maxis (Julie Nathanson) are currently voiced by new, unknown actors. Alton told Game Developer that he takes no issue with Activision’s actions with Peck, but expressed concern “for my brand as a performer.” “Fans of the game have reached out to me because the lack of crediting [of the replacement actor] implies that it may still be me which unfairly represents my...
Roblox developer Gamer Robot Inc. just published the long-awaited Blox Fruits Dragon Update, delivering several gameplay tweaks and a basket of Fruits to utilize. The team behind the action-adventure experience shared patch notes for their latest update today, revealing a long list of changes for players new and old. Headlining the Dragon Update are the East and West Dragon Fruits, including Dragon and Chromatic skins that allow players to customize transformations to their liking. There’s also the Strong Hair and Saddle abilities, which allow allied players to ride on your Dragon’s back. Also listed in the Blox Fruit Dragon Update patch notes are mentions of alterations to a few existing Fruits. Included in the list of reworked...
Stalker 2 developer GSC Game World has released the game’s first major update, patch 1.1. The update makes over 1,800 fixes and adjustments, GSC said, including the first iteration of A-Life fixes. Stalker 2 launched late last month to a positive reception on Steam and one million sales. It’s a success for the Ukrainian studio, a miracle, really, considering the harrowing circumstances that followed Russian’s full-scale invasion of the country in 2022. But Stalker 2 suffers from well-documented bugs; chief among them A-Life 2.0. A-Life was a key feature of the first Stalker game that governed AI behavior across the game world. At a high level, it is a system for simulating life in the Zone that works its magic seemingly...
The writer of the infamous Sonic Adventure 2 song "Live and Learn" is suing Sega, claiming he owns the rights to the song in part, and alleging the company has been using the song without his permission and making money off it over the last 20 years. In a lawsuit first spotted by Polygon and also viewed by IGN, John Gioeli, the writer and performer for Live and Learn, asserts that he has maintained his songwriting registration for the song for over 20 years since he first wrote and recorded it for Sonic Adventure 2. However, he says Sega has been improperly claiming it is the actual owner of the song and behaving as such, including licensing the song to "at least 25 video games, television shows, live performances/events, and films."...
Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead has addressed player complaints about the pricing of the recently released Killzone crossover, insisting it is the driving force behind the decision making, not Sony. Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani took to the Helldivers Discord to answer questions with varying success, at points angering the studio’s community even further. "Firstly - this is our first collaboration so we'll be figuring...
December is a big month for me. It’s a time to celebrate the holidays with friends and family, surprise loved ones with unique gifts, and attempt to reconnect with the ever-growing monstrosity that is my backlog. December is also a time for me to reflect on games that launched throughout the year – especially those that continued to demonstrate the rise in accessibility acceptance, as well as push the innovative boundary for future titles. 2024 was rife with accessible games, spanning across numerous genres and developed by various sized studios. As the industry’s understanding and implementation of features and designs continues to evolve, games are far more accessible than before. And with this year-end issue of Access Designed, IGN...
The team at Tango Gameworks have been through a lot these past couple of years. High on the surprise release of their highly acclaimed 2023 hit Hi-Fi Rush, the studio was suddenly closed down in May, causing uproar among game fans around the world. Then, in August, it was announced that South Korea’s PUBG publisher Krafton had reached an agreement to acquire Tango, along with Hi-Fi Rush, granting the studio a new lease of life. Amid such dramatic twists and turns, Tango has retained many of its staff for this new iteration. IGN spoke with studio head Colin Mack, creative director / Hi-Fi Rush director John Johanas, and development director / Hi-Fi Rush project manager Kazuaki Egashira about their plans for Tango Gameworks going...
Sony has invested 50 billion yen (approx. $318 million) in FromSoftware parent company Kadokawa, putting the brakes on a full takeover for now. With the investment, Sony becomes the largest shareholder in Kadokawa, with 10% of the company’s shares. Chinese megacorp Tencent is next in-line. Kadokawa and Sony have formed what the pair described as a ‘Strategic Capital and Business Alliance,’ with the goal to boost Kadokawa’s long list of intellectual properties globally. The announcement of the deal includes vague corporate speak about how the two companies plan to work together in the future, but there is a line about adapting Kadokawa’s IP into live-action films and TV dramas globally, co-producing anime works, and further expanding...
Competitive Roblox dodgeball experience Blade Ball continues its holiday plans with its Santa vs. Elves V6.7 update. The latest in developer Wiggity’s line of Christmas event updates comes with a handful of goodies to unwrap as December rolls on. It’s not all reindeer games, though, as Blade Ball fans can now enjoy other non-holiday additions, including 24 swords, 14 explosions, and 12 emotes. There’s also a Blade League event for those looking forward to its release this weekend. Of course, Blade Ball update V6.7’s real focus is the features that will help get everyone into the holiday spirit. Santa vs. Elves is a limited-time mode that asks players to pick between two teams: you guessed it, Santa and the Elves. Patch notes...
The comeback wasn’t going to happen. I was blowing it. I lost my first character in my first match of The Hidden Ones because I didn’t cash out with my Ultimate Skill, but I made a comeback with my mid before losing her to my opponent’s anchor. I didn’t have a great answer for what he was doing, and I was convinced I was going to waste what had started off as a great comeback. Then my anchor came out. It was my first game; I’d never used her before. And at first, it was going about the same, and then I realized what I was doing. I canceled my default combo into another combo then another, and cashed out with my Ultimate. And on the last hit, I got the kill. God, I love fighting games, and if my time with it is any indication, The Hidden...
We're starting to see glimpses of the Christmas and Boxing Day sales already, folks. Case in point: You can land a current-day CoD for way less than usual. I'm also tracking 90% savings on Hitman, Oddworld(s), and Mass Effects on Steam. Last but not least, I'd definitely sling hard-earned credits at a 42% off Metaphor: ReFantazio and the fandangle version of Outlaws. In my opinion, it's a criminally underappreciated, heist-centric Star War. In retro news, I'm celebrating the 36th birthday of Castlevania, one half of that famous sub-genre portmanteau, which loosely translates to: "Backtrack with your doodads to unlock more doodads." I vividly recall scoring this NES must-own at launch, in the bicentennial-obsessed year of 1988, and...
From iconic names like Indiana Jones and Final Fantasy to indie sensations like Balatro and Animal Well, 2024 has provided gamers with a variety of incredible experiences. IGN is in the process of picking our game of the year, but now you have the chance to have your voice heard too in the IGN People’s Choice Tournament. With our partners at Truth, we’ve selected 64 of the best titles of the year to be placed in a bracket and randomly sorted into groups. They’ll go head-to-head, with the winner moving on to the next round and the loser being eliminated. As the rounds progress, the competition will get tougher, until there’s only one title left standing as the fan-voted Game of the Year. If you’re familiar with how March Madness...
According to tradition, the holiday season actually began over a month ago when Mariah Carey once again emerged from a giant block of ice to sing Christmas anthem "All I Want for Christmas Is You." Fortnite's is arriving a bit late to the holiday party, but leakers say an upcoming update to the game will replicate this timeless holiday tradition and have Mariah Carey burst forth from a large block of ice in the game, bringing with her holiday character skins and the Winterfest event. This news comes from prominent Fortnite leaker iFireMonkey, who has previously been a source of credible Fortnite leaks. Per their information, Mariah Carey will be getting a Fortnite skin as part of its upcoming Winterfest 2024 event, alongside Snoop...
Ubisoft's failed Call of Duty rival XDefiant has received a hefty final update today, December 18, ahead of its shutdown in 2025. The XDefiant X/Twitter account shared the patch notes, below, while executive producer Mark Rubin thanked fans and the development team in his own post for their dedication to the game since before and after its May 2024 launch. "I wish everyone who worked on this game directly or indirectly the best for their future endeavors," Rubin said. "And the same goes for all of the fans who played our game, who streamed it, or who worked to build the XDefiant community." XDefiant's final S3.0+ update includes the previously announced Assassins class, which are modelled after Assassin's Creed's titular heroes...
The open, medieval world of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was built with even greater authenticity in mind than its historically-grounded predecessor was capable of. Whether you played the first one or not, there are plenty of potentially overlooked details you'll want to pay attention to. Sometimes because it might help you succeed on your journey, and other times because it's just a neat touch of realism. As part of this month’s IGN First, we’ll be taking a look at eight little things you won't want to miss in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. 1. Find An Old Friend Henry, the hero of the Kingdom Come: Deliverance saga, will get the chance to reunite with a number of old friends from the first game if you know where to find them. And one of...
Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is reviving classic Sega arcade game The Ocean Hunter in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, marking its first release on console. As reported by Automaton, RGG Studio revealed on X/Twitter the wealth of minigames coming to the incoming Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii including The Ocean Hunter as an arcade game. The Yakuza / Like a Dragon series is known for its myriad minigames and inclusion of full classic titles by visiting actual Sega arcades in the fictional takes on Japan and Hawaii. Yakuza 0 had Out Run and Space Harrier, Yakuza Kiwami 2 had Virtua Fighter 2, Yakuza 6 had Fantasy Zone, and so on. Bringing over The Ocean Hunter, a 1998 on-rails shooter about killing giant sea beasties like great white...
Helldivers 2’s Killzone crossover, confirmed and released today, December 18, has already sparked a backlash over the cost of its items. Part one of the Helldivers 2 and Killzone crossover includes a Killzone-themed armor set, assault rifle, banner, cape, and player title. Amid excitement that Sony has remembered the Killzone franchise exists over a decade since the launch of the last game in Guerrilla’s first-person shooter series are complaints about the cost of these items. The new armor costs 500 Super Credits, the new cape 310 Super Credits, the new helmet 310 Super Credits, and, most egregious of all, the new assault rifle costs 615 Super Credits. Oh, and all these items are only available for five days before they’re rotated...
It’s been a strange console generation for Team Xbox so far. It started during a pandemic and resulted in supply chain issues that made the Xbox Series X hard to get for months, the potential-killer-app launch title (Halo Infinite) suffered an embarrassing but much needed yearlong delay, Microsoft tried to buy Activision-Blizzard for SIXTY-NINE BILLION DOLLARS only to see regulatory agencies around the world challenge it before the deal ultimately went through, the company shipped one bona fide Game of the Year (Forza Horizon 5) and also started publishing its first-party games on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, and Xbox boss Phil Spencer even confirmed that a handheld Xbox is in the works, even if we might not see it during this...
Throughout 2024, it felt as if a new amazin RPG was right around the corner at every moment. The year kicked off with a bang when Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth launched just before Persona 3 Reload showed us why the original is a timeless story. And we only had to wait until February to return to Final Fantasy VII when Rebirth expanded the horizons of a beloved classic. Those may have been the headliners early in the year, but Unicorn Overlord worked its way into our hearts with its captivating art style and tactical depth, before Dragon’s Dogma 2 proved why the cult classic deserved a sequel. It was more than enough to hold us over until the big hitters like Metaphor: ReFantazio and Dragon Age: The Veilguard landed toward the end of...
