When Pocketpair's monster capturing survival adventure Palworld launched, many people compared it to Pokemon, specificallycalling it "Pokemon with guns." It's not Pocketpair's favorite comparison, according to communications director John 'Bucky' Buckley, but the thought of collecting a following of adorable monsters has nonetheless prompted a number of people to ask if Palworld would ever make it to Pokemon's platform of choice, the Nintendo Switch. Unfortunately, according to Buckley, that's not in the cards, largely due to technical reasons. "If we could make the game work on the Switch, we would, but Palworld is a beefy game." I spoke to Buckley at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco last week following his talk...
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is now available at its lowest price so far. Woot is offering the game for $32.99 for PS5, a significant drop from its regular price of $69.99. For those who have been waiting to pick it up, this is a great opportunity to do so at a significant discount, and potentially one of the best deals of the year. It's hard to imagine the game dropping any further in price anytime soon, making this likely the best opportunity to buy it at the lowest price possible in 2025. With such a steep discount, I wouldn't be surprising if it sells out quickly, so if you're interested in picking it up, don't wait too long. In our 9/10 review, Michael Higham called Final Fantasy VII Rebirth “a best-in-class action-RPG full of...
Hot on the heels of Microsoft’s casual mention of Hollow Knight: Silksong in an official Xbox post, backend changes to the game’s Steam listing have fueled speculation that it’s set for a re-reveal and potential release soon. As spotted across social media, Reddit, Discords, and many other corners of the internet, the Steam metadata of Hollow Knight: Silksong was updated on March 24. The changes, documented on SteamDB, include an opt-in for Hollow Knight: Silksong on GeForce Now, Nvidia’s video game streaming platform, changed assets, and, crucially, a change to the Steam store page’s legal lines so Hollow Knight is listed as copyright Team Cherry 2025, not 2019. It all points to something Hollow Knight: Silksong-related happening...
Bam Margera was not featured on the recent list of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4 skaters returning to the roster for the upcoming Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4, but it’s now being reported that Margera will, in fact, be a part of the final game. The news comes via skateboarding media veteran Roger Bagley during a members-only livestream of The Nine Club skateboarding podcast (via Video Games Chronicle). According to Bagley the game was “already done” when Tony Hawk contacted Activision to ask that Margera be added to the game. Hawk was apparently told it could not be done, but Bagley says the skateboarding legend would not take no for an answer. IGN has contacted Activision for comment. Margera, a former professional skateboarder and...
Konami’s upcoming Silent Hill f has been refused classification in Australia, meaning the game would not be able to be sold within Australia at this time. However, Silent Hill f’s RC rating has been assigned by an automated rating tool and not via actual Australian Classification Board members so, based on precedent, it’s unlikely this is the end of the story. Konami does not distribute its own games locally in Australia, but IGN has contacted its third-party distribution partner for comment. The specific reason for Silent Hill f’s RC rating has not been supplied at this time. Since the introduction of an adults-only category for games in Australia (R18+) in January 2013, games that have been refused classification in Australia are...
Fellow bargain fans, it’s time to stock up again. This latest round of discounts has slashed prices on some absolute gems across Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X, PS5, and PC. Let’s take a peek at the highlights before they disappear forever. This Day in Gaming 🎂 In historical gaming news, I’m lighting 8 candles on a cake for the Nintendo Switch, that little hybrid console that could. Back when it launched, there was a feeling that Nintendo was taking a risk with it. After the commercial failure of the Wii U, many industry analysts questioned whether the company could reclaim its dominance, especially with the comparatively diminutive tech specs they planned to compete with. I took a leap of faith and went all in on day one. Within 5...

Minecraft Live 2025 is done and dusted, and developer Mojang has announced a long list of new upgrades and content coming to the best-selling video game of all time. Mojang revealed Minecraft's first game drop of the year, called Spring to Life. This will introduce a variety of updates to the Overworld that will make biomes "feel more immersive and alive," such as new variants for cows, pigs, and chickens, and new ambient features and sounds (glittering firefly bush, falling leaves, and whispers of sand). Spring to Life launches on March 25. The second game drop of the year doesn't have a name just yet, but we do know what it will include. There's a new block called the Dried Ghast that can be rehydrated to form a new mob variant...
Minecraft developer Mojang has no intention of incorporating generative artificial intelligence into its game development process. The ever-increasing creep of generative AI into game development makes itself evident by the day, whether it’s Activision admitting to using generative AI art in Call of Duty: Black Op 6, or Microsoft building Muse, an AI designed to "generate game ideas." But, by the sound of it, Mojang has no plans of taking advantage of its parent company’s new technology, much preferring the human touch that resulted in Minecraft becoming the biggest-selling game of all time with an incredible 300 million sales. “Here for us, just like Minecraft is about creativity and creating,” stated Minecraft Vanilla game...
Freshly revealed at Minecraft Live, a major new graphical update is on the way to Minecraft, titled "Vibrant Visuals." This upcoming upgrade will initially be released for compatible Minecraft: Bedrock Edition devices, but there are plans to bring Vibrant Visuals to Minecraft: Java Edition in the future. It includes improved visual elements such as directional lighting, volumetric fog, pixelated shadows, and noticeably shimmering water. Purely a visual enhancement, Vibrant Visuals makes no changes to Minecraft’s gameplay. For example, "visual shadows will not impact light levels in a game-mechanics sense, or affect where hostile mobs spawn." Players will be able to toggle between the new and previously existing visuals of Minecraft...
In an age when many live service games of its kind have pivoted to a free-to-play business model, Minecraft stubbornly remains a premium experience. During a recent interview with IGN, developer Mojang said it's determined to stick with the established "buy and own the game" approach, even now, 16 years after it came out. In short: don't expect Minecraft to go free-to-play any time soon. “Yeah, it doesn't really work with the way we built it," explained Ingela Garneij, executive producer of Minecraft Vanilla. “I mean we built the game for a different purpose. So monetization doesn't work in that way for us. It's a purchase of the game and then that's it. For us it's important that our game is available for as many people as possible...
Minecraft celebrated its 15th anniversary last year, but despite growing into those troublesome teenage years, it appears that developer Mojang has no plans to replace it with a sequel. On a recent trip to the Stockholm studio, IGN asked about the possibility of the best-selling game of all time getting a sequel. Ingela Garneij, executive producer of Minecraft Vanilla, had an amusing, yet to-the-point answer for us: “Do you think we're going to have an Earth 2? No, no, there's no Minecraft 2.” While Minecraft 2.0 is evidently not on the horizon, that doesn’t mean the survival-crafting phenomenon won’t continue to evolve. In fact, plans stretch way into the future, with a goal of at least doubling its current lifespan. “We've existed...

Ubisoft has hailed another Assassin’s Creed Shadows player milestone, but has yet to confirm a sales figure for the game. In a social media post, Ubisoft said Shadows has seen 2 million players since going on sale on March 20, up from the 1 million on day one. That’s enough to surpass the launches of both Assassin’s Creed Origins and Odyssey, Ubisoft added. “Thank you for joining the journey in Feudal Japan!” It’s an impressive start for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, but it’s worth bearing in mind that Ubisoft has yet to announce a sales figure for the game. Still, we do know it’s the top-selling game on Steam, where Ubisoft recently returned after years of PC launch exclusivity on the Epic Games Store. At the time of this article’s...
Thanks to a renewed focus on the ideas the series was originally built on, Shadows is the most satisfying Assassin’s Creed has felt in years. You can fluidly move from ground to castle rooftop thanks to the best parkour system since Unity, and a grappling hook only makes the journey to a great vantage point even speedier. Perched on a tightrope high above the enemy, you’re only a drop away from scoring the perfect kill… provided you’re playing as Naoe, that is. Take control of Yasuke, Shadows’ second protagonist, and it’s a whole different game. Yasuke is slow. He is clumsy. He can’t kill silently. And he climbs like a grandpa. He is the antithesis of an Assassin’s Creed protagonist. He is one of Ubisoft’s most baffling design choices…...
Editor's Note: This initial review in progress is based only on the PlayStation 5 version so far, with the PC version experiencing launch issues. Although Bleach is the flashiest member of the shonen anime “big three,” standing shoulder to shoulder with mega popular series like One Piece and Naruto, it has long suffered from middle child syndrome when it comes to arena fighter adaptations. Bleach Rebirth of Souls aims to break the cycle of run-of-the-mill anime fighters this series has previously been part of, delivering a unique action game that attempts to raise the genre to greater heights. Even though I still have a lot left to play before my final review, having only spent 10 hours with it since I received review code just before...
BioWare has almost entirely moved on from Dragon Age: The Veilguard, but that isn’t stopping its remaining team from sneakily adding a small DLC weapons pack to the game. Dragon Age fans gathered in shock after the RPG’s Steam page was updated to include free add-on content in the form of the Rook’s Weapons Appearance Offer yesterday. It’s not much but still more than welcome considering EA had previously signaled that Dragon Age: The Veilguard wouldn’t receive much support in the future. As its fifth patch promised that future updates would largely focus on tackling game-breaking bugs all the way back in January, brand-new content feels like a bit of a miracle – even if it’s not much. Strangely, the Rook’s Weapons Appearances bundle...
The GOG Preservation Program is growing with a solid list of inductees, including classic titles like Silent Hill 4: The Room, Vampire: The Masquerade – Redemption, Fallout 2, Deus Ex, and more. The PC digital storefront detailed how it planned to expand its retro-gaming-focused service yesterday, providing fans with a lineup of games it has committed to support for the foreseeable future. It’s a list of 26 titles that GOG says will “remain playable in their best versions” that players can safely assume they’ll have access to for years to come. Silent Hill 4: The Room is one title that will benefit from the GOG Preservation Program in more ways than one. In addition to securing its future, GOG says the entry’s status with the service...
The first big update for Monster Hunter Wilds looms on the horizon, and next week, Capcom will host a showcase to spotlight what's in store for Title Update 1 in Monster Hunter Wilds. The Monster Hunter Wilds Showcase airs on March 25 at 7am PT / 10am ET on the Monster Hunter Twitch channel. Hosted by producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, the showcase will spotlight what's arriving alongside returning monster Mizutsune. Currently, there's no exact date locked in for Title Update 1 outside a general "early April" window. A firm launch date for the first big content drop of Monster Hunter Wilds would be one of the big takeaways players would likely want to see in the spotlight. As for content, we know Mizutsune — a leviathan monster with...
When I emerged from a quarantine zone bunker into the lush green surrounds of England’s Lake District during Atomfall’s opening moments, my mind didn’t immediately go to Bethesda’s Fallout series like I had expected. Instead, I thought of Elden Ring. That’s because, while not nearly as enormous in scale, this survival-action adventure takes a similar approach to FromSoftware’s 2022 masterpiece in the way it drops you into a foreign land with no clear idea of who you are and only cryptic clues as to which direction to go in, trusting you to find your own fun and unearth its many mysteries organically as you carve a path through its varied and often intimidating terrain. It’s a freeform storytelling structure that succeeded in keeping me...
Looking for the best games like Atomfall to help you survive a bleak, post-apocalyptic world on your own terms? We thought so — that’s probably why you’ve landed here. If you were hoping for a cosy game recommendation, you’d want to head down the hall and take a left. But for those sticking around, Atomfall […] Continue reading...
Is there anything cooler than a samurai who wields a gun? If Dark Horse's newest Rise of the Ronin collectible is any indication, not really. IGN can debut the first images of the Rise of the Ronin: Ryoma Statue, which is being sold exclusively through the Dark Horse Direct website. Check out the slideshow gallery below for a look at this very stylish video game collectible: Here's Dark Horse's official description of the Ryoma statue: At 12.75” tall, Ryoma stands ready to strike with his pistol ready. His sheathed blades rest at his side in a sling, a bold reminder to his enemies of his roots in the Hokushin-Itto-ryu school of swordplay. His intricately detailed haori and hakama ripple in the wind, embodying a legacy that shapes...
Kaiserpunk has an immediately interesting premise: rebuilding society from the ashes of an alternate timeline World War I that raged so much longer and more mercilessly that it left the survivors in a post-apocalyptic struggle for survival. When it leans into being a city builder with a roaring 20s flair, that scenario can really shine. But the diet grand strategy game playing out on its dissonant strategic map, as well as a host of technical issues that I could maybe forgive if this were an Early Access launch instead of the full thing, make me wish I'd perished in 1916. Each game of Kaiserpunk begins with laying out a few ramshackle houses and modest farms on one of its varied but fairly flat maps based on real-world locations, which...
The latest in Ubisoft’s long line of stealth-action open worlds, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, is finally here. But where does it rank in the series? We’re asking you to make that decision. There have been over 30 games released under the Assassin’s Creed banner, but we’re just including the “mainline games” here, so no mobile, side-scrolling, VR entries, or spin-offs like Bloodlines or Liberation here, I’m afraid. AC started all the way back in 2007 when Desmond Miles stepped into the Animus to fill the shoes of his ancestor Altaïr, and now finds itself in 16th-century Japan 18 years later as players take control of Naoe and Yasuke. This latest adventure is the 14th in the core series, and I’ve had a go at ranking them via one of our IGN...
Activision’s war on Call of Duty hacking continues, with four more cheat providers reportedly shut down ahead of the hotly anticipated return of Verdansk to Warzone. Call of Duty content creator LunchTime took to social media to reveal the four Call of Duty cheat providers confirmed to have shut down this week. Activision has yet to make a statement on the purge, but it comes as part of the company’s overall bid to improve Black Ops 6 and Warzone’s poor reputation among its core community for cheating. The mega publisher has spent millions of dollars developing its anti-cheat technology as well as pursuing cheat makers in the courts, with a number of recent high-profile successes. Earlier in March, Phantom Overlay announced it was...
System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster launches on June 26, 2025, developer Nightdive Studios has announced. The modernized version of the much-loved, 1999 sci-fi horror action role-playing game is set for release on PC and, for the first time, consoles. Expect a launch on Windows PC via Steam, GOG, the Epic Games Store, and the Humble Bundle Store, and on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch. Nightdive Studios rebuilt System Shock 2 for modern platforms using its proprietary KEX Engine. As you’d expect, it has improved visuals, enhanced gameplay, improved performance, cross-play co-op multiplayer, and mod support, among other modern video game features. Here’s the official blurb on System Shock...
Assassin’s Creed Shadows saw over 1 million players on launch day, Ubisoft has announced. The game released on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S on March 20, and just before 4pm in Canada, Ubisoft took to social media to say it had crossed the 1 million player mark. “It's not even 4pm here in Canada and Assassin's Creed Shadows has already passed 1 million players!” Ubisoft said. “Thank YOU from the bottom of our hearts for joining this adventure in Feudal Japan. We are beyond excited to start this journey with you!” While 1 million players on launch day is an impressive achievement, it’s difficult to gauge success when Ubisoft itself hasn’t offered a sales figure or indeed a sales target. What we do know is that...
Split Fiction is getting a film adaptation, according to Variety, which reports a package is being put together in response to offers for the movie rights coming in from “multiple top Hollywood studios.” Variety’s sources stated that Story Kitchen, a media company that specialises in film and TV adaptations of games and other non-traditional properties, is currently assembling the project’s writers, director, and cast into a package deal. The upcoming film adaptation of Hazelight Studios’ previous game, It Takes Two, was handled by the same team. Other Story Kitchen projects (formerly known as dj2 Entertainment) include the Sonic the Hedgehog films and Netflix's Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. No further details are known at...
