Break out your neck braces because Wreckfest 2 – the hard-ramming, door-slamming second coming of the hit 2018 demolition racer from smash ’em up specialists Bugbear – has officially T-boned Steam early access. With some stunning track design, a rich array of sound refinements, and even better handling than the original, the early signs are extremely promising. Early, however, is the operative word here, and my experience of Wreckfest 2 so far has been a little uneven. While I absolutely adore the driving feel, the throaty roar of overworked engines, and the metal-mashing mayhem, what’s currently being sold is very slim in terms of toys to smash together and I have suffered a number of crashes – but not the kind I crave in a destruction...
Like any soulslike fan, I’m quite accustomed to the process of dying over and over again until I’ve mastered a tough section, but playing through AI Limit was the first time I felt that sense of learned repetition before I’d even died at all. That’s because, aside from its anime-inspired art style and a few minor abilities you unlock throughout the story, this by-the-numbers adventure is without question the most milquetoast and unimaginative game I’ve played in the genre. It pit me against boring and meager enemies, laughably wimpy bosses I was largely able to stomp dead without issue, and a story with almost as little to say as its dull protagonist. In fairness, there’s not much especially awful about what AI Limit is doing (apart...

If your game library is looking a little sparse, now’s the perfect time to grab some absolute bangers at heavily discounted prices! Whether you’re after high-speed action, epic RPG adventures, or deep strategy experiences, this week’s deals have something for every kind of gamer. This Day in Gaming 🎂 In retro news, I'm celebrating the 21st birthday of a series black sheep that still sold many a GameCube, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. As a remake of the '98 PS classic, this was a pretty surreal (and, in parts, misguided) love letter. It was as if Snake had emerged from a time machine, equipped with the control scheme and acrobatics of MGS 2: Sons of Liberty. Helmed by Silicon Knights and injected with the "cinematic flair" of...
A little over half a year after GameStop shut it down in August 2024, Game Informer is officially back and the whole team is returning with it. In a 'Letter From the Editor' by Game Informer Editor-In-Chief Matt Miller, it was revealed that Gunzilla Games secured the rights to Game Informer from GameStop and that it was planning to bring back not only the editorial team, but "production and beyond." For those unfamiliar, Gunzilla Games is the game developer and publisher behind the free-to-play extraction battle royale game called Off the Grid, which is now in Early Access. It is also the developer behind GunZ, the "Layer-1 blockchain ecosystem powering community-driven economies in AAA games," including Off the Grid. Additionally...
NetEase Games has released patch notes for Marvel Rivals version 20250327 ahead of Season 2’s launch in mid-April. The developer behind Marvel’s popular hero shooter published a rundown of everything included in the upcoming update on its website today, promising to bring a series of hero fixes and map tweaks to players this Thursday, March 27. The update will come with no server downtime, meaning you’ll be able to hop in to see how heroes like Wolverine and Iron Fist have changed the moment it’s sent live at 9am (UTC+0). One highlight included in this latest Marvel Rivals Season 1 update is a surprise addition to the Galacta’s Cosmic Quest board game event. It’s a special April Fool’s Easter egg gift that’s only available to those...
Five years ago, when Mike and Amy Morhaime founded Dreamhaven, I spoke with several of the founding members about their vision for the company. In our interview, they told me about wanting to build a sustainable publishing and support pillar for game studios, both the two they were founding at the time (Moonshot and Secret Door) and other partners they chose to work with. At the end of our interview, Mike Morhaime shared a rather bold goal for the new company: "We want, if I may be so bold as to say, to be a beacon to the industry," he told me, referring back to the company’s lighthouse logo art. "There's a better way of approaching the business of games and the operation of a game company that can produce great results, both in terms...
I guess I sorta suspected the day would come when my inner despot would awaken to wreak havoc on the galaxy, but I was surprised just how quickly it went down, after just a few minutes with the upcoming space-faring shooter: Wildgate. This chaotic sci-fi first-person shooter blends PvE and PvP objectives alongside exploration and combat on foot and aboard a ship that requires multiple people to operate – a formula that may feel quite familiar to any fellow Sea of Thieves fans. But unlike Sea of Thieves, where the chaos of player-on-player piracy is a somewhat infrequent and optional distraction, in Wildgate it’s the primary focus, and the inevitable clash of geared-up crews left me feeling the same heart-pounding intensity of a battle...
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 has been hit with another delay that will see its release date arriving in October 2025. It’s a somewhat smaller delay following years of schedule changes that was tucked into a recent game update video uploaded by publisher Paradox Interactive and developer The Chinese Room. It’s a few months later than the previous plan to see the long-awaited sequel arrive in the first half of the year, but it at least comes with the promise that the game itself is finished. “The status of the game right now is that the game is done,” Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodline 2 Executive Producer Marco Behrmann explained. “We are currently focusing on bug fixing, stability, and performance so that we can deliver the...

The Monster Hunter Wilds Showcase for March 2025 aired earlier this morning, detailing news about the upcoming Title Update 1 and teasing a bit of what's in store for Title Update 2. In that small sliver of footage, fans saw signs that the much-sought-after return of Lagiacrus could be happening. Right at the end of the Monster Hunter Wilds Showcase, over the Title Update 2 text, we hear some aquatic sounds, followed by a telltale clawed foot and scales. The signs feel fairly obvious that this is going to be Lagiacrus, a monster that hunters have been eager to fight again for quite some time. Introduced in Monster Hunter 3, a.k.a. Monster Hunter Tri, Lagi was the "flagship monster" for the game, which meant it appeared on the box...

As part of its Spring Sale, Amazon is offering the popular Iniu 20,000mAh power bank for a rock bottom price of $9.99 after you clip the 50% off coupon on the product page. A 20,000mAh power bank for under $10 is rare, especially one with a pretty decent 22.5W of power delivery over USB Type-C (enough to fast charge a Nintendo Switch). Iniu power banks have solid reviews and are less expensive than equivalent Anker models. Iniu 20,000mAh Power Bank for $9.99 This Iniu power bank boasts a generous 20,000mAh, or 74Whr battery capacity. If you factor in 80% power efficiency, here are the approximate number of times you can fully recharge each gaming handheld: Nintendo Switch (16Whr): about 3.7 times Steam Deck (40Whr): about 1.9 times...

Title Update 1 arrives on April 4, 2025, as a free update for all owners of Monster Hunter Wilds. In tandem with the launch, several pieces of free and paid DLC will be going live as well. A new hub will expand the hang-out potential for hunters, new armor and cosmetic pieces shake up the fashion game, and more fearsome monsters await on the horizon. Capcom has announced Monster Hunter Wilds’ title Update 1 comes out on Thursday, April 3 Pacific Time, and April 4 UK time. In a showcase video, below, Capcom confirmed the release date as well as what players can expect from Monster Hunter Wilds’ first major post-launch update. The headline here is the Grand Hub, a new gathering place in which players can interact in new ways. Here you can play a new mini-game called Barrel Bowling and listen to the Diva perform at night. Mizutsune — a leviathan monster with dangerous bubbles — hits Monster Hunter Wilds with Title Update 1, alongside a Zoh Shia quest. Arch-tempered Rey Dau launches later via an event quest. Arena Quests, where players can compete for fastest completion times...
Fortnite OG Season 3 launches today alongside the arrival of assets from The Walking Dead, including Negan's infamous baseball bat. Chapter 1 Season 3 sees the return of the Lucky Landing POI and a meteor that’s on a “seriously worrying collision course!” Epic Games said. Also from the OG days, the 50v50 LTM returns as OG 50v50. OG 50v50 pits two 50-player teams against each other, and runs until 9am ET on April 14. Fortnite veterans will remember that 50v50 was the first-ever LTM to be added to Fortnite Battle Royale, all the way back in 2017. The meteor will emerge in the sky later in OG Chapter 1 Season 3, and get closer and closer as the Season goes on. This, too, will be fondly remembered by Fortnite players who were there to...
Civilization 7 developer Firaxis has outlined the game’s crucial update 1.1.1, which hits at a time when the recently released strategy game has fewer players on Steam than Civilization 6 and even the 15-year-old Civilization 5. On Valve’s platform, Civilization 7 has a 24-hour concurrent peak player count of 16,921, which isn’t enough to get into Steam’s top 100 most-played games. Civilization 5, released in 2010, had a 24-hour peak of 17,423. Clearly, most Civ fans are sticking with 2016’s Civilization 6, however, which had a 24-hour peak of 40,676 players. In a post on Steam, Firaxis listed some of the “additions and refinements” coming with Update 1.1.1, including: Quick Move Functionality New Natural Wonder Mount Everest...

On paper, Steel Hunters is a serious left turn for World of Tanks developer Wargaming. But just because the developer’s next project is rooted in a sci-fi, futuristic setting with larger-than-life mechs doesn’t mean they’re not tapping into their 27 years of multiplayer expertise for this mech hero shooter. I spent about 45 minutes racing other mechs to an extraction point in Steel Hunters’ battle royale-lite extraction mode, trying out half of its seven-character launch roster. Although I hit a few snags as I got myself used to controlling a building-size robot shaped like a spider, I could see Wargaming’s multiplayer pedigree on full display. Aside from a short tutorial, which introduced me to Steel Hunters’ movement and controls...
There is enormous pressure on Assassin's Creed Shadows to do well for Ubisoft globally after a number of delays and the sales failure of last year’s Star Wars Outlaws. Indeed, Ubisoft suffered a number of high-profile flops, layoffs, studio closures, and game cancellations in the run up to Assassin's Creed Shadows' release. Things have got so bad at Ubisoft that its founding Guillemot family is reportedly exploring talks with Chinese mega-corp Tencent and other investors on a buyout deal that would let it preserve control of the company's intellectual property. So, the video game world is watching Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ early performance closely for signs of its success — or failure. So far, Ubisoft has yet to announce a sales...
There’s nothing quite like the thrill of scoring a great gaming deal, and this week’s discounts are packed with legendary titles at jaw-dropping prices. Whether you’re into stealthy espionage, open-world adventures, or fast-paced sports action, there’s something here for every Patient One among you. This Day in Gaming 🎂 In retro news, I'm getting my Cyndaquil to light a 16-candle cake for Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver, two Pokéventures I played until my DS stylus was a nub. These enhanced remakes of 1999’s Pokémon Gold & Silver did more than just revisit a beloved world—they redefined it. With a striking visual overhaul, mechanical refinements, and an incredible breadth of content, these games still stand tall as the (heart)gold...
Few places hold as much shared history for Helldivers 2 players as Malevelon Creek. Around this time last year, it was the site of a massive Automaton incursion, with divers fighting through a hail of scrap and laser-fire. Now, it seems like we might be heading back to the Creek. In its most recent update, Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Studios announced in-game that players had failed the most recent Major Order. The Automaton Incineration Corps, armed with powerful flame weaponry, made significant gains. "The enemy remains at large," the notification read. "Reports indicate the enemy's strategic goal is to seize old industrial assets in the Severin Sector, where the Automatons first emerged." The Severin Sector is home to...
Amazon's Big Spring Sale starts tomorrow, and if you've been hoping to score some nice discounts on video games, you don't have to wait for the sale to start. There are a few early deals available right now that are worth checking out ahead of the sale event. One of our favorites at the moment is on LEGO Horizon Adventures for PS5, which has dropped to $37.08 at the retailer. This is 38% off its list price of $59.99. If you've had this one on your shopping list, now's a great time to pick it up for your game library. LEGO Horizon Adventures takes the magnificent mechanical world of Horizon and rebuilds it brick-by-brick with LEGO. IGN's Jada Griffin said in our review that the game, "reimagines Horizon Zero Dawn with a playful Lego...
Dune: Awakening developer Funcom has issued an update on the game’s business model and post-launch plans, confirming the May 20 release date is the “full launch” rather than Early Access. The multiplayer survival game inspired by Frank Herbert’s legendary sci-fi novel and the movie adaptations will not have a subscription, despite being billed as an MMO. Instead, Funcom will continue to expand the game through free updates with content and features, and “follow a classic business model” of optional DLCs. Funcom pointed to the support it provides its existing and long-running MMOs such as Anarchy Online and Conan Exiles, which still receive free updates, DLCs, and expansions years after launch. “Dune: Awakening will be no exception...
Bethesda has announced that MachineGames’ Indiana Jones and The Great Circle launches on PlayStation 5 on April 15 for early access ahead of a global release on April 17. Those who pre-order get access to the early access. The PS5 release date, which comes four months after Indiana Jones and the Great Circle launched on Xbox and PC, was announced alongside a playful promo trailer that sees perhaps the two most famous video game actors in the world on-screen together. In the trailer, Indiana Jones actor Troy Baker sits down for a chat with Uncharted star Nolan North, who famously plays intrepid explorer Nathan Drake in the PlayStation-exclusive series. Drake and the Uncharted series are of course heavily inspired by Indiana Jones, so...
I’m exhausted after playing The First Berserker: Khazan over the past week and a half. My hands ache, my brain is fried, and I’ve often had to step away in frustration. It’s a brutally difficult game, one often expecting near-perfection in its toughest encounters. I’m slowly working my way through this Soulslike extension of developer Neople’s Dungeon & Fighter universe, and it’s an understatement to say it’s given me trouble – which is part of why I still have a bit more to go before I’m able to call this review finished. But like a new military recruit, it’s broken me down and, over time, built me into a lethal weapon that’s prepared to take on whatever hellish nightmares wait ahead. Even though I’ve hit seemingly insurmountable...
Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor is remembered for many reasons, but perhaps best of all for its Nemesis system, an incredible mechanic for generating memorable Orc encounters. According to a former executive, the Nemesis system came about from trying to solve a different problem: secondhand sales. In a new video, Laura Fryer — former vice president of WB Games who oversaw the publisher's Seattle studios at the time — talked about her time with Monolith. While discussing the way trend-chasing affects the industry, Fryer mentioned that chasing trends is what "literally led to the Nemesis system." At the time, used game sales were a hot-button topic. Companies like Electronic Arts and Ubisoft were taking measures such as selling season...
After Japan’s Prime Minister responded to questions around Assassin’s Creed: Shadows and the risk of copycat "defacing" of shrines, the shrine linked to Ghost of Tsushima has banned all tourists after an "unforgivable act of disrespect." Automaton reported on the Watazumi Shrine, a real-life Shinto shrine located on Japan’s Tsushima Island, which announced it had banned entry to anyone other than congregants and worshippers after what it called “a grave and unforgivable act of disrespect committed by foreigner(s).” Ghost of Tsushima brought worldwide attention upon the Watazumi Shrine upon its release in 2020, as it is thought to have inspired the in-game Scarlet Rock Shrine. As Automaton reported, Ghost of Tsushima fans launched a...
